Your machine is more than capable of running Civ VI, especially with the addition of a 1070.

In-fact here's a video running Civ VI using just the integrated graphics of your CPU. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEXIktMtHmU

It's worth noting the dual core will be a bottle neck to your 1070 so you really should not be using a 1070, go with a rx 480 or perhaps look at a different machine such as the Razer Blade which offers better performance (though not as professional looking unfortunately).

*Edit

This is $200 more expensive but offers a 1060 as well as a great quad core cpu, I'm not sure what type of work you're doing but unless it's creatively driven I'd recommend chipping the extra $200 to get a much better machine.

Civ isn't a massive performance hog, so that price range should be reasonable. If you can bump up your price by $100 you get into the range for gtx 1050Ti graphics cards, which are going to be solid cards that last you a long time. You probably don't need a full 8GB of ram for Civ, it might help in the late game but it's realistically out of your budget anyway.

MSI w/ i7, 1050Ti

Dell w/ i5, 1050Ti

Acer w/ i5 1050Ti

My wife and I both have MSIs and we love them - the keyboards especially are best in class for laptops, IMO. You might also try over in r/gaminglaptops, there's not always a lot of answers but you might get lucky.

This is my favorite board game ever. I've recently got the newest edition with the updated art and re-balanced rules. I love love love this game, but wish I could find more than one other person that doesn't mind the required time investment. It can take as long as -- and sometimes longer than -- a game of Civ on PC, but there are few people I know that don't mind spending that much time around a table playing a board game. :(

EDIT- If anyone is interested in checking it out, I'd suggest looking into the newest edition, Through the Ages - A New Story of Civilization. The new edition has better art as well as some much needed quality-of-life & rules updates:

If you have some free time you might read The Teeth May Smile but the Heart Does Not Forget: Murder and Memory in Uganda.

It's an amazing history of East Africa.

Welcome :)

Can't legally link the full book, but I'm sure your library has (or can get) a copy. I believe the book was The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell.

The story you talked about sounds pretty interesting. Sometimes I'm tempted to read OSC's fiction that people observe(/complain) is just thinly veiled Mormon cosmology, because it sounds interesting, but I don't think I can stomach reading any of his books anymore now that I know a bit more about him as a person. Kind of sad.

Awesome reply, thanks. I'm currently going through Herodotos' "The Histories", so I'm looking forward to learning more about Hannibal after I'm through with it. Though it seems like I'd find even the "boring" parts of Livy's writings interesting.

I also just checked Amazon, and it looks like there's quite a few Penguin Classics books on ancient history available. If anyone is interested, here's a link to "The War with Carthage" on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/The-War-Hannibal-Foundation-Classics/dp/014044145X/ref=pd_sim_b_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0QZTSAH3TVKP89YTGGA7

I would dispute both of those claims.

First you wrote: The 1060 is a lot more expensive though.

Really? Brand for brand the difference is on average 50$. For example

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-1060-WINDFORCE-GV-N1060WF2OC-6GD/dp/B01JNUO6BG/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1474908716&sr=1-1&keywords=GTX+1060

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Radeon-Gaming-Graphics-GV-RX470G1GAMING-4GD/dp/B01JNTXM2Q/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1474908730&sr=1-4&keywords=RX470

That is 200 (AMD) vs 250 (Nvidia). I do not see 50$ as qualifying for a LOT more expensive. And that is also comparing the 8GB version of the 1060.

Second, price performance ratios are always a tricky topic. You are simply better off comparing the benchmarks, and then asking is 50$ worth it for Nvidia, holistically, taking into account other factors such as driver support.

I would 100% be confident in advising anyone buying a 1060 over a 470. If you care to explain why you think it is the other way around, I would like to hear it.

Modern laptops don't have comfortable keyboards, since they are to tall and heavy. For old school civ you want a good num pad, with a nice feel. A old school style data entry numpad external is the best imho
Something like this:

If they're also into board games (or seem like they might be), I'll suggest the seven wonders board game. I've played it recently with a few friends and it has a civ feel to it, lots of fun.

What's the money limit? Amazon shows $32 so it may be over that limit, depending on your budget and the suggested amount.

This!! This is the same case for my 15” MacBook Pro which come with 87 watts. If you use the 13” adapter at 65 it works, but slowly drains the battery under load as u/mixmastakooz states. Then Mac OS kicks in to keep it powered on; you get huge performance hits which are understandable.

As an aside, I always travel with just one adapter for everything and this works for my laptop on planes.

As an aside, u/mixmastakooz does civ 6 have good touch support? I’ve been looking at an XPS 15 or 13 with the 4K touchscreen option.

u/Munkles · 1 pointr/civ

Yeah I can see that, sorry for mis-understanding.

HP is actually refreshing their Omen lineup and its probably the way i'd go. Its refreshing with skylake cpu's for improved battery performance, up to 965m gpu, 512gb ssd in a really sleek package should go for about $1300-$1500 and then just pack in a real good set of headphones like the https://amzn.com/B018UB3HU0

Then be stupidly happy.

  • Here is a link to Christopher Tin's homepage.

  • Here is a link to actually buy* his album his page / iTunes / Amazon, and best of all: You get to choose the price starting at $2.

  • Here is a legal link to the song on YouTube - uploaded by himself on his channel.

Then there are indeed tools to very easily convert videos from YouTube to MP3s, however people made time to write those tools. Time that they invested to earn an easy buck. This happens by either: Getting you to Pay, by getting you to see ads or by secretely installing software on your systems that you don't want installed.
u/Anurse1701 · 2 pointsr/civ

I'm running the game fine with just a 2200g APU. Civ isn't very graphics intensive, you'll never need more than a RX 560 or Nvidia 1650. Focus your money on getting something with a solid processor Intel i5 and Ryzen 5 are common. I like 16gb ram duel channel (2x 8gb sticks). And a solid state hard drive is a must.

Just an example:

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-Desktop-Processor-Graphics/dp/B07Q3G3B67

You could probably build that a little cheaper, and have much better components, but install a 500gb solid state drive and you'll be good for some time.

Hey, Great empires of History have gone to great lengths for strategic settlements.

Just one PC. (mine. Mwahahahaha... ahem.)
Thank you, though. She is not a video gamer. She is more the Catan/Phase 10/Mexican train/tabletop gamer.
Marriage Pro-tip... take [Deer in the Headlights] (http://www.amazon.com/Front-Porch-Classics-53720-Headlights/dp/B008EBLMS6) with you to IHOP and have a date night playing games there. Fun times.
Again, though. Thank you so much for the offer.
