Not even! His books can be loved by children/teens, but a lot of the context and social issues can be lost.
/u/aWizardsStaff is totally right. For a semi-stand-alone book, you might want to also check out Monstrous Regimen. It's a little confusing in that you have to kinda have a feel for the universe (a lot of supernatural creatures pop up), but the story itself is completely contained.
And definitely read the Mort/Reaper Man/Soul Music/etc. books—they center mostly around Death, who's an absolutely fantastic character and brings up a lot of interesting theories on evil and stuff.
Buy a stun gun It can plug into the wall to charge, has a flashlight and is super small and easy to tuck into a pocket or purse. Also it can drop a linebacker in seconds (We tried it out once on a friend). It also makes this loud noise and flash of light when you press the stun button which has, in my case, scared off a couple men who were trying to harm me. It's $15 bucks and totally worth it for the peace of mind it brings. Also better than pepper spray because there's no point- and spray and no real way to accidentally hurt yourself.

+1. Replying likely wouldn't have worked. There's an interesting book that touches on this subject. It is called THE GIFT OF FEAR. It is kind of about stalkers but also talks about communication strategies for dealing with infatuated people. TL;DR: any response is bad. OP handled it by the book.
