So so so so many recommendations, OP included a great list too. Definitely follow rules and laws for flying your drone. Its VERY tempting to want to fly it everything cause its so MOTHER EFFING beautiful, but stay out of the state and national parks with it.

I will also suggest, no..HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book https://www.amazon.com/Hawaii-Big-Island-Revealed-Guidebook/dp/0996131825/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ST3GCAV0BCCZMNGAK34N

I normally go anywhere and think I'll just find everything I need online or on my phone, and while you can, this book is CRAZY helpful. Plus its great reading on the plane and will get you more excited. Really helpful tips, hidden gems, etc in this book...cant recommend it enough. And its well written, not boring at all to read.

When in Kona, check out

  • Ali'i Gardens Market Place. Great prices on shirts, gifts, etc - and some good food - including shave ice
  • Any farmers market will do too, several along Ali'i drive in Kona
  • Da Poke Shack - best poke bowls on the island. (they also see it at costco and its pretty good there. If you have costco card, definitely go there for shopping and essentials for the week, including gas.
  • Go to the little surf shop by Da Poke Shack, you can rent snorkle/mask for like $25 for the week. Great snorkling around Captain Cook, and Bay of Refuge - a must do
  • Eat Breakfast at 808 Grindz - macdamia waffles and pancakes - you can thank me later
  • If you want to do a Luau, Island Breeze is the best one on the island. We did this in lieu of a wedding reception, it was an absolutely amazing time, great food, and call you can drink mai tais!

    Hilo

  • Check out the zoo, pretty cool little zoo and cheap
  • Hawaii Botanical gardens - not like any other BG you have ever seen...its truly a treasure to see, plants and it backs up to the ocean at the end....stunning is putting it mildly.

    Other Stuff

  • Drive to top of mauna kea - make sure you have 4wd - we rented a 4 door jeep. You have to stop at the visitors center to get acclimated with the altitude. This is no joke, spend the 30 mins there, if not longer. Getting out of your car at the top of the volcano is beautiful, but if you're not ready you WILL get sick. Headache, light headed, vomit, or all 3.
  • Waipio valley...yes yes, all day yes. You can drive down to the black sand beach there too, just be careful...its not an easy drive down or up

Here is my tool Box that I purchased to hold everything.

Here is the case I purchased for the mavic and its controller. This case fits nicely in the tool box.
https://www.amazon.com/Philonext-Foldable-Controller-Transmitter-Hardshell/dp/B06XDQJD7C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504231058&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=Mavic+Pro+Case+Controller+Case&psc=1

I had one of these, it works awesome. It holds ALL cables, Chargers, AND batteries. Also fits nicely in the tool box.
https://www.amazon.com/BUBM-Electronic-Accessories-Organizer-Earphone/dp/B071JNSNSQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1504231157&sr=1-4&keywords=wire+organizer+Bag+BUBM

I am going to show you a photo of everything in the case, so I must explain everything I keep in the case in case you are wondering what that weird thing is.

Landing pad -- Not needed, but I love it. It keeps my mavic off the dirt/ground. It also helps the go home feature by having something identifiable by the drone, so it knows where to land.

BTW, Be careful on the filters you choose if you want filters. The filters that I purchased the first go around were to thick and caused gimbal failures. I then purchased these from a suggestion from a reddit user and it works like a charm.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WW7YW5G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I DID purchase a range extender, and sun shade, but I shouldn't have. There are a LOT of tall trees where I live... So the range did not improve with this product. IF you live in an area like the desert or lots of farm land, I think this product would work ok.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072M9KZQZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The gimbal lock and cover was a little stupid, being in two pieces and all, so I purchased this which works great.

I've gotten a few Neewer brand products for my Sony a6300 and have always been impressed with the quality of their gear compared to price.
I got these lenses on Friday and they worked great. I took the mavic out on a really clear and bright day and was able to keep the shutter speed at 50 shooting at 24 frames using the nd 16 filter.
I got home and uploaded some footage and it looked great!

I have this one for a iPhone X and absolutely love it. Great protection, well made and a brilliantly simple design. The rubber ‘inner’ case fits in the controller well.

Yes, the air is a definite upgrade over the spark. But is it a definite upgrade over the pro? I don't think so. I'd think of it more as a pro alternative. I realize that you don't want to talk about range, but it's a valid pro for the pro (hah). From the things you listed, (mbps, no rear sensor, and a much more protected gimbal) yes, the air is better on paper.

It all depends on what you want. I like to be able to fly farther, so the pro's longer range and battery life matter more to me. I don't fly backwards around obstacles, so a backwards sensor isn't important to me, and even then I feel like because the sun already interferes with obstacle sensors I feel like that could lead to undue anger and confusion. The bitrate is better, but the average person isn't going to notice the difference. Even with the protected gimbal thing, you could buy something like this and get the same effect with the pro. Even then, if you crash either one of them it's game over for the gimbal on both.

I'd still buy the pro even with the air out.

These are things i bought when i got my Mavic that I love.

This charger - https://www.amazon.com/Grounded-Powerextra-Platinum-Intelligent-Batteries/dp/B06X94L9P7/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1543403265&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=mavic+pro+charger&psc=1

Able to charge all 3 batteries at the same time as well as usb ports for phone and remote.

Lipo bag for carrying batteries when travelling. I also charge in these for safety.

ND filters - i use these SandMarc ones

I'd love an ND1000 filter for some long exposure photos

This is a minor $10 but this gimball holder and cover is much easier than the fiddly one that comes with the drone.

https://www.amazon.com/Teenitor-Gimbal-Unique-Design-Combines/dp/B071S1V8ZL/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1543403390&sr=8-13&keywords=mavic+pro+gimbal

hope this helps.

EDIT: Found this pack of filters that I've now just bought - https://www.amazon.com/Freewell-Exposure-Photography-Compatible-Platinum/dp/B07DZVTKJZ/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1543403850&sr=8-7&keywords=freewell+mavic+pro+nd1000

Definitely grab some ND filters. PolarPro is the best brand however they are real expensive. I purchased some from this 'generic' brand, a great price and work really well. (& pass the gimbal calibration test)

My solution, which I've only really tried once (and it was a success), is to use a camelBak backpack filled with hot water, as well as to use an insulated carrying case for the Mavic. The carrying case has the added benefit of not needing to take the propellers off so it's very fast to take off and put away.

Case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZZW91A/

CamelBak: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ID29OVI/

Edit: I warmed the water to about 160 degrees Fahrenheit (CamelBak says not to put boiling water in) and was outside for about an hour in 20 degree Fahrenheit weather before flying. The Mavic stayed warm and I didn't get any warnings. I doubt it would have stayed warm if out for more than a few hours. A better solution might be to just take the battery off and put it in my pocket.

Friend of mine was doing this so I copied. it works extremely well.

Case Holds Mavic + Battery, 3 more batteries and my old note4 I use to fly with.

For quick grab and go, I grab that and the controller separate with the stick guards in a backpack or something.

For everything I have this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005VTIMEQ/

Above case fits perfect inside it with the controller in the main pocket with lots of extra room. Top pocket has adv charger and phantom 4 charger plus props, etc. All in one bag essentially.

Its small and works well

I have a hard case for my Mavic but I wanted something easier to carry around. Got this bag: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Sling-Backpack-SLR-Cameras/dp/B005VTIMEQ and it fits the Mavic plus accessories (three batteries, home and car charger, spare props) very nicely. I used the foam that came with the extra batteries to make them fit a bit more snugly.

Ordered! Thanks!! There was a question on amazon for this, that someone asked if it came with the rubber bands / dampeners and the response was no. Im guessing that was in regards to a different product.

Thanks for the help!

I have this one.

It’s awesome and folds up super tiny. It fits my iPhone 7 in landscape mode and my iPad Air.

u/LukeWarmCage · 1 pointr/djimavic

Thanks for the fast reply. Have you used these filters with a lens hood? Curious if they clear.

u/ionouono · 2 pointsr/djimavic

There's an alternative to MavMount that's considerably cheaper and just as good: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N7RFDBA/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Been using it for about a month now and it has worked really well and seems to be built to last.

u/mau5inthehau5 · 1 pointr/djimavic

Here are the pictures I promised. I also bought a Tenba wrap for more protection for the Mavic and a travel cover to protect the RC.

u/FRNLD · 2 pointsr/djimavic

They have also listed this on Amazon...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7O7HMR/ref=cm_sw_r_taa_JUTCybY1XTB53

Some mixed information as they say they are just modifying the original gimbal cover in the questions section but on their website, they said they are 3d printing while they get the molds right for the injection setup.

u/_dbfoto · 1 pointr/djimavic

I've done it a few times powering on but caught it before take off. A few people were mentioning this on another forum to combine the 2 pieces so you don't forget again.
