Meh, it's been a SERIOUSLY long time since I kept up with her, but she went all "yay Jesus" for a while there and stopped writing vampire/witch stuff for a long time. Then Stan Rice died, Katrina happened, and she was suddenly like "yeah, back to vampires; Christians are hypocrites."

I think she only denounced her stuff because she found Jesus for a little while.

I have the profound pleasure to live in the same town and come in contact with Nikki Giovanni. In one of her earlier works, Gemini, she talks at length about bringing down the white establishment and not replacing it with black people, because then she'd just be in the same establishment. She wanted to bring it all down and start all over. She wrote this in the early 70s. As I gave her a copy to sign in 2008, I wanted to ask her how she felt about this now, particularly since she has a very well paying job and teaches primarily white kids. "Nikki, I'd like to ask you about Gemini," I said. She began to laugh and said, "oh, I haven't read that in so long... All I can tell you is that you always change. Every day, you change. When you don't change, you're dead."

So... I think a lot of authors denounce their earlier work, but not because they don't agree, but because they change.

Hey there, mister! I made this link for you:

So People Say You're An Asshole: A Book for You, People Who Love You, and People Who Work with You https://www.amazon.com/dp/099724111X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Maf9Bb2Y75C4X

You can have disdain for a person without perpetuating hate. I wish you good luck in life, friend.

Holly Mother of God. :-)

"Dancing with the Stars and The Voice" ? Yipes!

How about Silicon Valley, Dark Mirror, and a dash of Dark Matter?

I bounce between Greenpoint and Manhattan. There is not a soul here that has "Network" TV anywhere in their world. Not a soul. It's gone. We use cable for only one thing. Just internet. Google is putting up 1gb/s access points all over the city. Totally free. Like to ditch my cable when they get one closer to my apt.

But what is back, BIG TIME? Books and paper. Everywhere. :-) And Voice (Alexa on Echo) is the craze.

You might really enjoy this book. We're all devouring it now (well 2 here for u).

> That's nothing new. If you knew the industry you know that almost everyone is freelance and they moved on to new gigs the moment they wrapped the season finale of Vinyl.

Yes, but a few years back for sure, it would have been "you're stealing my show!", now it's "totally cool dude." Big change there.

Do you know people who like Firefly? Did they watch the original run? Check out the recent Amazon reviews on the DVDs, strange for a show that's declining in viewership. What about this, from Wikipedia:
>Joss Whedon, Tim Minear, and cast members Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin and Sean Maher reunited at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con for a 10th anniversary panel. Ten thousand people lined up to get into the panel, and the panel ended with the entire crowd giving the cast and crew a standing ovation.[102]

Do you have the actual figures I can look at for sales and streaming, to show that it really is declining? I'd be pretty interested in that, but right now it looks like you're fighting my anecdotal observations with "nuh-uh," which is about as helpful.

You're somewhat lucky you didn't start watching until now. Their breaks between seasons were the longest of any show, ever (sometimes a year or more).

If you're interested, there's a great book by Rafael Alvarez called The Wire: Truth Be Told, that chronicles every episode, along with a bunch of essays/letters written by David Simon and the staff.

She wrote a book. I recommend it. She was also an addict for a long period time of time, and got clean when she left Scott shortly after their kids were born.

I dont think she is making this about her, I think she is trying to show that an addict doesnt just mess up his life - he messes up the lives of everyone around him. And its not healthy to look up to these people as heroes or role models, when they are fighting such battles with their addictions. Just my two cents.

These quotes from the article really show what she is trying to say:

>The outpouring of condolences and prayers offered to our children, Noah and Lucy, has been overwhelming, appreciated and even comforting. But the truth is, like so many other kids, they lost their father years ago. What they truly lost on December 3rd was hope.

>"That mess was our father. We loved him, but a deep-rooted mix of love and disappointment made up the majority of our relationship with him."

>This is the final step in our long goodbye to Scott. Even though I felt we had no other choice, maybe we never should have let him go. Or maybe these last few years of separation were his parting gift to us – the only way he could think to soften what he knew would one day crush us deep into our souls.

Yeah, Bouree' was definitely not written for an orchestra

It is from Lute Suite Number 1 in E Minor

J.S. Bach for Bass

Jack Bruce thought Johann Sebastion Bach to be the best producer of bass lines ever.

The original books...are not printed anymore, I think. I was lucky and picked up a three-pack of the original trilogy - and let me tell you, they are great. There is much content in the books that was not introduced in the movies - especially some background on Luke's home life (which didn't serve much purpose, but would have been nice to see). You may be able to find them online if you scour enough.

I just rented this box of his flicks, some just a writing credit but all worth seeing, brilliant stuff:

Robin Williams Actor's Studio DVD has been out for awhile.

I think you get ~2 hours with the 'deleted scenes' - it's great (but I'd love to see a completely uncut version).

I highly recommend the whole Beauty and Crime album. I just discovered it a couple weeks ago, and I think it's fantastic.

Curiously enough, the way I found her was by looking online for good pop music in 3/4 appropriate for cross-step and Viennese waltz. Got pointed to the utterly sublime Bad Wisdom (among other things) and then found my way to B&C.
