Note all keyboard mouse combos use Esc for back. Need to use enter to select at main menu but sub menus the mouse select works

Mele f10
have to flip over for Esc/back button. Works good pretty accurate. Cue and rewind work in circle select area. Have to flip over and hit space bar to play/pause

Logitech N5902, exceedingly akward IMHO. Worked great with HTPC but not good with FireTV. BTW do not buy at amazon if you think you may want one it is too expensive. If more than $30 you are paying too much. Once again not good for FireTV but good for HTPC.

You're welcome, good luck with it. Some more thoughts also --

a - Re. Amazon Music. If Google Play is preventing you from installing Amazon Music, try installing the APK directly from APK Pure or APK Mirror or through the Amazon Appstore (the last option may require you to first install the general Amazon app on your phone).

b - Re. mirroring. You mentioned your phone has a "mirrorshare" button/setting. What happens when you push it? Do you see a (empty) list of devices it can mirror to? Or do you get an error or nothing? (Also, is it labeled as "multi-screen" If so, I assume it should mirror successfully to smart TVs with mirroring and to Chromecast ?)

c - Do you have any smart TVs that support screen mirroring? Your phone may be able to mirror to them, just to test out your phone's capabilities.

d - Microsoft's miracast Wireless Display Adapter gets a lot of love for easy screen mirroring. So if you have to choose between Chromecast and Microsoft's stick, Microsoft's may be a better fit for you.

It's not AFTV device, but I've bought like 7 of these Audiocast pucks from Amazon exclusively for multi room music. I've given some away to other music lovers & they love the device too.

I've got one in my master bath, kitchen, garage, office, media room and the audio sync is perfect. They've made improvements to it because a year ago, whatever was the main device would cut out like it wasn't getting a clean audio stream/signal & it had to be power cycled in order to stabilize, but I've not had to do that in awhile.

You do have to use the app to set it up, but after that you can use any app that supports UPnP to cast to it (I use BubbleUPnP). I wish I could cast from an AFTV or chrome browser to it if I wanted to listen to a podcast or something from Plex, etc.

eBay always worked for me. Exchange sucks but breaking it down you basically pay

$100+any tax USD for the box, they MSRP $99USD.

$15USD for seller to pickup, list/email/manage, package

$13-15USD eBay and paypal fees (13% now IIRC)

$20 USD shipping

$25USD import.

Thats about $173USD which works out to about $231CAD. Honestly the nVidia shield was $212 CAD last I checked in Feb and spec-wise is much better than FTV4K, plus its available in Canada and works here easily.

If you don't need 4K support and can deal with somewhat buggy or 'hacky' software (not ideal but functional) the ones out of china on amazon are at least functional android boxes with about the same spec and power as the original FireTV. Just get a Rii i8+ backlit keyboard/mouse combo for $25. The remotes they ship with great to throw at stuff, not much else.

Hope this helps. The other way is to find someone travelling who will bring one home or up when they come at MSRP. I looked into reshipping services and they weren't worth it.

I've tried using my old harmony remote with it using a Flirc adapter... It's easy enough to setup but it's a bit too responsive. I have problems with it doing the same command 2-3 times instead of once. I've tried adjusting all the settings and it's improved things slightly but I still wouldn't recommend it.

We have one of the new Logietch harmony hubs on our fire tv in the living room and it actually works really well. The remote works well and I think the hub controls the firetv via bluetooth so there's no line of site issues. It doesn't have a mic on the remote but I think the app can do voice commands thru your phone.

I haven't played around with getting the new Logitech hub remote to do all the custom kodi functions I had defined with the old harmony remote yet... I'm definitely missing the functionality but not enough to tackle addressing it so far.

Wow! Thanks for the ultra-quick lesson on Composite vs. Component. I've never come across Component before, so I feel like I learned something tonight. :)

I found a convertor on Amazon that looks like it will do the trick. Thanks everybody!

I think I found one on Amazon (looked on monoprice but wasn't sure about the search results). Thanks a bunch! It says that it is an active converter and it even said it has its own power like you mentioned. I'll be giving this adapter a try

It's a bit expensive, but I just bought this older version of the Harmony Hub remote system, and it's been pretty useful turning everything on and off. If you also buy an Amazon echo or echo dot you can use this remote to voice control the TV on/off too.

Bluetooth doesn't work that way, the fire tv would need two separate BT radios for that to work. The best you'll get would likely be something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT-PHA05BT-Bluetooth-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B0065V9TXC

It's a BT headphone amp- so you'd set this up to be the BT "headphones" for the FTV, then use a headphone splitter to feed two pairs of wired headphones.

If you have a headphone out from your speaker system or TV (depending on how things are set up) you could go headphone out to one of these which has dual BT radios for 2 sets of BT headphones: https://www.amazon.com/MEE-audio-Universal-Headphone-Transmitter/dp/B016NIOOH2

Note: I have used none of these products, but they appear to be two examples of workarounds for your scenario. Best of luck!

I'm assuming your talking about a Toshiba with FireTV built in. I accomplished something similar with a Logitech Harmony hub and IFTT. I can walk into my living room and turn on/off my TV with an echo dot and the harmony. It should be easy to create a recipe in IFTT to turn your TV on every morning at a set time.

We had satellite TV and we were using the remote that went to the box. But we had to return the remotes, so we've been using the buttons on the TV to turn it on and adjust the volume.

But I just picked up the A-TV10 Remote that this post links to, and it's working great. It would be better to have one remote, but it's not too bad. It comes with a strap on it, so we just tied the bedroom remote to the headboard :)

You will have to somehow split the FireTV Stick's audio out of the HDMI signal. They make things like that, for instance this one I just found on a quick search: http://amzn.com/B00KBHX072

That said, if you're spending $39 on a FireTV stick and another $30 on a box to split the audio out, you might find the full FireTV to be a better value.

u/AFTVnews · 1 pointr/fireTV

Glad you were able to narrow things down to the network connection. It might not be the router but just the Stick getting interference from surrounding components. Try moving the Stick and other devices near it around and use HDMI extenders (if you have them) to move it away from the TV/receiver it's connected to.

Use this app to see real-time signal strength:

I tried doing this by side-loading Chrome remote desktop but apparently FireTV doesn't allow anything that uses a Google account which is kind of shitty.

I'd suggest trying to side-load Splashtop on it, it's my second choice for high quality real-time streaming. I've not tried this but I'd guess it would work well.

I have used Limelight to stream games onto it which works AMAZINGLY well. But, that requires a semi-modern Nvidia GPU in the computer. If you can do this you can probably launch steam in big picture mode and use the browser in it.

Other than that Chromecast allows a quick and easy brodcast from a desktop computer's browser tab or desktop. There may be an app somewhere that emulates a chromecast.

Also, you can side-load Chrome and just use the browser on the TV to access whatever you're looking for. You can do this without rooting your device. If you need help side-loading apps let me know and I'll give some links.

u/Nabsbeats · 3 pointsr/fireTV

If you have a 6xx series Nvidia card, I'd recommend giving Limelight a shot: http://www.amazon.com/Cameron-Gutman-Limelight-Game-Streaming/dp/B00JK4MFN2/

Just add Steam to your Nvidia GeForce Experience game list, and you'll be able to stream via Big Picture Mode.

Sideclicks are pretty awesome but just seem a little expensive for what they are.

Another option is the addon remote but they do not have enough buttons for me. I need channel up/down and a ways to scroll though the tv inputs and hit "enter".

Edit: I just read that you said you don't have the original remote... You will need them for both of these options since they are learning.

There are HDMI audio extractor boxes for just this purpose. Fairly inexpensive too, here's the first one I found:

ViewHD HDMI Audio Extractor | Optical Toslink + L/R Stereo Analog Converter Outputs | VHD-H2HSAs | Support Amazon Fire TV, etc https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KBHX072/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_y-2-ybYVR27H5
