There is a certain kind of soft rubber that some of those colorful "sleeve" cases use, and that provides a lot of friction. But those cases are really not that substantial. I can see why: they would deform too easily.

There are some hard cases that seem like they could protect the phone, but the hard plastic skates across the table almost as much as the phone without a case. (Such as the official kickstand case.) Those ridges look nice but when my hands are dry like they get in the winter or after washing, the ridges don't help.

TPU cases are interesting. The one that went with my old Hyperion extended battery on my S3 was the only one available that fit the extra capacity back. It had a nifty honeycomb looking pattern. But it didn't do squat to help my grip.

I have to wonder, why not cover the outside of those hard plastic cases with some kind of high-friction coating, or layer the soft rubber on top of the hard plastic? Cloth would be fine too. Something that actually creates friction, not just dressed up to look like it would.

Here's the amazon seller I got mine from. I'm in Canada, so I had to find a seller here. I can't speak to other replacements, but this one came with very similar adhesives as the original. So to answer /u/jackjones2014's question about the IP rating. It seems like it would be comparable, if installed properly. Personally, I try to keep my phone dry. I know that others use it in the shower, etc. I'd probably air on the side of caution after replacing it yourself. One benefit of sending it in for repairs, would probably be a guarantee that it has the same IP rating as when you originally bought it. But I'm a broke student. So a 5 dollar fix was perfect for me. I mention it in the album, but to reiterate. When you remove the blue plastic protectors on the metal ring, make sure that you don't take the clear adhesive with it. This is most likely what will make or break its waterproof/dustproof ability. And make sure that you really clean the old adhesive off.

Cases for the s5 active are slim pickins'. However. I just bought a beetle case from supcase on amazon for $20 and it rocks! More cases for the regular s5 available, but I like having the s5 active because it is not so common. In fact. I got the phone 2 days after ti was launched and went to best buy to see if they had any cases yet (they didn't) their Samsung rep was blown away. He had not even seen the phone himself and asked if I had some kind of prototype. He took pictures of my phone and sent it to his other reps who had not seen it either or even HEARD of it. Apparently it's existence was so quiet Samsung employees had no idea about it. All the best buy reps swarmed around it. Now it is more common to know about it, but then at around the 1st of June, it was like I had some mythical item in my hands.

Edit: This is the case I have now for my active. VERY tough. http://www.amazon.com/Full-body-Protector-SM-G870A-Resistant-Smartphone/dp/B00KPRVPK2

Hey dude.

Late post, I know, but I've been doing some research on the best FM transmitters (had the Soundfly by Satechi, 3 actually, first one was great and the second two had quality issues. Have had at least 4 or 5 other ones before it back in 08, but since I found that haven't looked back).

The one that seems pretty legit is this one. It's got insane amounts of reviews and most of them good.

Hopefully this kind of helps.

Wow, I watched your exact video last night! I'm gonna go ahead and buy parts today. I'm not sure if my parents have a hotplate or heat gun (I'll do the repair while I'm home from college), but out of curiosity, do you think one of those nuwave induction cooktops would work? The surface isn't hot to the touch, and only heats up when a certain type of pan (if a magnet sticks to it, it works) touches it. Or what about actually putting the phone on a frying pan on that cooker (I'd make sure it heats evenly), and I can set it to an exact temperature. Otherwise, I'm sure I can get my hands on a heat gun from a neighbor. Anyways, great video, and it sure will help make this process a bit easier.

I just got these after reading this review about them. I'm absolutely in love. I had a cheap pair of Bluetooth headphones before that were ok, but the sound on these are amazing. And I like that I can plug an aux cord into the headphones and use them if the battery dies. It claims 20 hours of playback and 4 hours to fully charge from dead, so that's pretty good. I know Amazon says they're sold out, but I got mine for the same price at Best Buy.

1.) There are so many to choose from, but nothing that will replace the back or extended battery type - most of those remove the water resistance.
2.)I would recommend one of the glass screen protectors. I use one and they are amazing compared to the old zagg ones.
3.)Can't really think of any deep features - Optimize your camera (by defaults it isn't the best), Use the fingerprint sensor, if you like it when your phone flashes the camera light for notifications that feature is hidden in hearing.
4.)Best SD card

I have the otterbox commuter in black (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IPGW2DY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and a tech armor matte finish screen protector (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IGISQUO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Looks good (not amazing, it has no art or anything on it but I'm pretty sure you could put stickers on it if you wanted) and the screen protector works well.

Yeah got this one too... for me it was the cable, after a few months it began acting funny, specially if i laid down holding the charging phone i had to hold the end of the wire plugged into the phone at a certain angle for it to work... I solved it buying a different cable:

the transformer (don't know what's the English name for it... Wall plug maybe?) still works great though

I got this one and like it pretty well. My version is a clear back though, which looks really nice.

After some looking around myself I got this case made for the note. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DVZUIDA?cache=5c5d9d1e559ea19063fd74bf5c080bd2&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1404520820&sr=8-2#ref=mp_s_a_1_2
I knew I didn't need to use the camera while in the bike mount. So having it line up didn't matter. I needed something that will fit my s5 with a case on it and be user friendly and stable. I've been using it for a couple months and works great.

u/TrigAntrax · 1 pointr/galaxys5

Great suggestion. Looks like I'll need something like this that is compatable with the S5. I'm hoping that the mouse can simulate a swipe however.

I got a Trentius case by New Trent, I love it! Otterbox like protection but slimmer and much more affordable. I love that it also has a built in screen protector.

I bought this one about two weeks ago because it came with the card too and I'm cheap. Slow charge (25% per hour, which is about half the speed of the plugin charger) and it gets a little warm, but I'm pretty happy with it.

u/Christopher3712 · 2 pointsr/galaxys5

I would guess the issue is the cable. Make sure you're getting a quality one when picking up a 3.0. I've seen a lot of generic ones out there that are grossly underpriced. If I had to guess, I'm sure they're all faulty. I bought a few from Amazon that are pretty awesome. See here and here.

Amazon has a kit - Mudder 9 in 1 Replacement Accessories for Samsung Galaxy S5, 3 Pieces USB Charger Port Cover Flap + 2 Pieces Plastic Holder + 2 Pieces Screw + Screwdriver + Cleaning Cloth for $6.99.

I didn't like the way the cover fit on my phone when I bought it so I picked up the kit rather than replace the new phone with a refurb. Replacement is easy.

u/g_ppetto · 1 pointr/galaxys5

If you get more than you need, you may guarantee you will never need another one. I went with these - actually it was a kit with more pieces since we had three S5s. The extra ones came in handy. Don't worry about not being techy enough. If you were able to get the battery out you can replace the flap.

edit - typo'd a word

I got this with the matte black finish. Protects the phone without being too intrusive

the Samsung evo micro sd is about as far as they get, being uhsi1/class 10. though the pro version can theoretically go twice as fast, you probably won't need the pro version. it doesn't hurt though!

My cat chewed through my S5 cable after the first day.

I bought this amazon basics cable and the cat hasn't touched it.
