For the Genius: Can't go wrong with a Kindle

For the one that loves things to be clean: Roomba (pricey)

For the outdoorsy one: Portable hammock for you two to share!

For the tasty food lover: A box of unique spices when you're making her birthday dinner!

Bonus round! This etsy seller is just boss and every girl i know loves her stuff, here is one of my favorites, a Beauty and the Beast inspired necklace

If you both love outdoorsy stuff I would suggest getting an ENO Doublenest Hammock

With the right suspension(whoopie sling), setup takes about 3 minutes. I am so glad we got ours, its not quite big enough for both of us to sleep in over night, but it makes such a great park relaxation, or naptime. One of the best things we have ever bought. Message me if you want some more help.

> But there's just no justifying the blatant exploitation of kids through psychological carrot and stick in my mind

I know people have only been reading about behavioral science as it applies to reinforcement for a few weeks since this loot box thing became big, but if you think these games are the first industry to take advantage of intermittent reinforcement, they're really not.

Remember these?

What about these, ever buy your kids one of those?

Ever promise your kid dessert so he'd eat his broccoli, and not tell him it's fruit salad?

Everyone uses this. The whole entertainment industry is built on the back of intermittent reinforcement. We use it to train out dogs. We use it to educate our kids. We use it to reward good work, in big companies (sell x of y product and win a trip, to be revealed soon!).

Casinos are just the most obvious, most direct way of doing it.

Just out of curiosity, what is your experience with addiction?

I've been a drug and alcohol addiction counsellor for 5 years now, and "recovered" from drug addiction as well. The reason I'm asking is because what you recommended is the exact opposite of the research that I'm aware of. Much research has shown that identifying the "root problem" has abysmal rates for continuous abstinence from whatever the addictive behaviour is.

The book I last read on the subject, which agrees with my point can be found here.

The only reason I use this book as an example is because it's the one I last read (mine is an updated version I believe), but also in every course I've had to take with professionals it seems to be agreed upon.

I'm not writing this to tear you down, but I'm genuinely curious if you have any evidence of success with identifying the "root cause" of addiction, as it's been pretty much dismissed from what I can tell.

Edit: I just wanted to add that a friend of mine just completed his MA in counselling psychology, and his thesis is based in gambling addiction, specifically the pathways model, which again focuses mostly on CBT and other treatments, but certainly not finding the "root."

Blue Snowball iCE

I'd start here when looking for an inexpensive mic. Fantastic starting mic. It has awesome range, and the background noise is minimal if you make sure to setup the options properly. It has a built in amp so no extra equipment needed, plugs into USB.

If you don't already you should be using Audacity. Here is a good POST about it.

Last thing, if you don't have great soundproofing in your room then you want to try to be in a small enough room as to where 1) Not too small so sound reverberates from the wall 2) Not to big so it pics up echoes. Egg cartons work great for sound insulation in a small room, cheap and easy (especially if you are doing this fulltime)

I currently use PP and I like it better than Corel but honestly use what you feel works best for the videos that you are trying to edit.

Goodluck.

Not sure what kind of genius she is but i bet some nice books would be awesome if she likes reading! I have been reading the Malazan series lately, nice multiple character "Game of Thrones style" fantasy novels, they are quite good. http://www.amazon.com/Gardens-Moon-Malazan-Book-Fallen/dp/0765348780

The following I recommend:

http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Champ-Pocket-Knife/dp/B0001GS19U/ref=sr_1_6?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1377493877&sr=1-6&keywords=swiss+army+knife

I think she would love this. She can use this to help her in the outdoors and it will make her feel like she will have more utility. I have had success with the swiss army knife from cutting ropes to helping my dad repair the bathroom.

http://www.amazon.com/Sante-Cookware-SUZ-Sushezi-Sushi/dp/B001P8J1GU/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1377494165&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=sushi+roller

For tasty food why not surprise her by making sushi with these products. Not only will you show your skill to her but also she will love you even more:

All you need to do is find the sushi recipes online not to mention you can youtube it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mm_5Z__TjQ

For cleaning why not surprise her and make your own safe cleaning products. Hell do some research on how to make cleaning products. Nothing says I love you like making her gifts especially ones that can help her clean and be safe.

That is all I got.

Thanks a lot for the fast answer.

First off: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-10-1-Inch-Black/dp/B00JKCH4X0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418726226&sr=8-2&keywords=samsung+galaxy+tab+4

I think it has 1,5GB Ram or ? We both talking about this right ?

Thinking the same about the 7" - but full HD display, better CPU and the RAM were some things making me struggle. But I guess you are right about the fun part to use :(

I would be very very very thankful if you could reply after you tested it on the tablet !

The top comment here is the explanation for the APK:

Well I play Legacy and Modern, so I have some fairly pricy cards that I want to protect. Proper doublesleeving makes your cards nearly waterproof, and all but impervious to spills or mishaps. It also protects the cards really well from scratches. Lastly, if I want to put my cards in new sleeves, I don't have to fully remove them from sleeves, the perfect fit can stay on as I swap out sleeves. And the Japanese sleeves were probably KMCs, like mine.

These thing are awesome and make the sourest food taste sweet. If she likes great tasting food I'm sure she would like it.

http://www.amazon.com/Foragers-Harvest-Identifying-Harvesting-Preparing/dp/0976626608/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1377479697&sr=1-1

Easily the best book on the market concerning foraging. Maybe you guys could go camping or geocashing and look for edible plants. At the very least it should make for an interesting and potentially useful read for someone who likes the outdoors and food.

Along a similar vain, this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Knew-Cleaning-Made-Easy-ebook/dp/B008GWMH0K/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1377479881&sr=1-4
is an interesting read about how to clean various stains with everyday house hold objects.

I'm not sure how she feels about marine or science type stuff but I really love it. Anyway, here are my ideas.

  • A sculpture of her favorite animal, just something smallish.
  • Aquascape a small fish tank for her? Here
  • I liked this coral reef idea Here
  • She's a genius, so perhaps a informative book? I'd accompany this gift with something else though, I wouldn't just buy her a book... This one is pretty good

If all else fails just make her a card instead of buying one from the shop.

I'll start off with a generally great place to search: Amazon Gift Central. Not only is it full of great shit, searching is customizable for relationship, price range, etc so it's easy to narrow down your (or her) preferences and still end up with a vast gift pool to choose from.

Honestly I would check out Groupon for dates around your area. Other than that, I have had success with a Pillow Pet. If she's the type to like things she will use, then find out something that she doesn't have, or wants (perhaps like a specific piece of cookware, or a pair of shoes, or something more luxurious). For anniversaries, I had great success once with getting napkins embroidered with the anniversary date, then delivering them to a nice restaurant before they open and having them place them on the table when you arrive for the reservation. Call the manager and talk about your plan first!

Back to objects: Walmart has a last-minute gifts section but I find it lacking.
