Aoske's entire store is pretty great.

Hanyxi® Remee Sleeping Mask Lucid Dream Induction Enhancing REM Inception Dream Control

u/TheShadowCat · 1 pointr/interestingasfuck

My thoughts on the list:

  1. Neat idea, but I would imagine many people will lie about how much of a loud mouth they are.

  2. Yes, please.

  3. Can't you pretty much see where it will be with one of these.

  4. Don't really care.

  5. I fear if this were put into place, assholes would deactivate other people's buttons so they could get to their floor faster.

  6. Pretty sure the onboard sensors would do a better job than this app could ever do. What we need are better and more accessible readouts from the car's computer.

  7. Not sure if this would be feasible.

  8. You can always put a waterproof timer into your shower.

  9. I would rather have them hit with a pie.

  10. They do have solar powered fans.

  11. A decent dress shop can probably provide this.

  12. Would be great, but good luck getting an elected official to enact it.

It depends on the type of knife you're using. Some knives like my Japanese high carbon knives can only be sharpened on whetstones, and using things like honing rods will actually damage the edge (Because its metal to metal contact), some knives like the Victorinox Chef knives can be sharpened pretty much anyway you wish. So really you have to know what type of metal you're working with beforehand.

You also need to know what type of edge is on your knife. Some knives have single bevel edges, meaning the knives edge is more like a right triangle than a equalizer. These knives require a different sharpening technique to maintain the same edge. Heres a img showing the difference.

Whetstones however are pretty much universal, and double bevel knives are like 90% of all knives out there as well, so chances are you have a double bevel knife. I've never heard of any knives that cant be sharpened with stones before. Here are some links.

Not sure what his name is but the guy who took this picture has an awesome book of other really cool pictures. He was actually the first person to take a picture of a bat in flight as well. From what I remember he set up an ir light that when the bat flew through it the camera would flash and take a picture. Pretty cool stuff.

Edit: I done found it http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0810927179?pc_redir=1405532135&robot_redir=1

No, the new Prius does not have a solar air conditioner, it has a solar fan that circulates air, preventing the interior from getting hotter than outside, but not making it cooler. The Prius can also draw upon its considerable battery power to run the A/C in keyless start mode, cooling it further for a few minutes before you hop in.

The fact that you have 194 upvotes shows that people lack the ability to quickly estimate the solar energy available on a car roof and the wattage needed to run an automotove air conditioner. It is a good feature, it is more efficient to keep the car cool than to let it get hot and cool it down, but low-E glass has a bigger impact than solar ventilators, and a $10 solar vent fan stuck in the window plus a reflector in the windshield also works quite well.

Yeah, my family got one of these for my dad at some point in the late 90s, from some "museum gift store" type place in the mall; I imagine OP's is older, but /u/XXyo80XX def. has a pretty common one. It is also super cool and I ended up playing around with it more than my dad ever did.

e: in fact, you can buy one on Amazon right now for $70.

It's a lot of fun if you need something to keep your hands busy while watching tv or listening to audio books (besides exercising I guess). It's relaxing. Dimensions has nice kits because they include the fabric, needle, and pre-sorted thread. Here's a good starter one: Dimensions Summer Flowers Counted Cross Stitch Kit, 72-74550 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016YWCEZG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3bFyzbEEEYXQ2.

Good luck!

I'm no cowboy but These are what I wear now and I get compliments on them all the time.

And I actually kind of like the ones in your link, the brown ones are neat as well. Thanks for sharing.

I second /u/Blasphemy4kidz . I started with his suggestion, and it's been working fabulously so far! My top picks for razor blades are

  • Feather, sharpest and most expensive of these

  • Merkur, you'll start with these, very good but not as cost efficient

  • Astra (I own these, do not confuse with Atra!!!), sharp and durable

  • Gillette Nacet, or any other Gillettes are good, too, idk why they have so many types

You'll save a ton of money buying these; a 100 pack of razors is $10 ish, and if you're like me you'll only use one per week, or two weeks. That comes out to about two years' worth of razor blades.

I use Proraso Shaving Soap, but I've been eyeing this one for a while, Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl.

Look up Kelvin's vorticity theorem.

This keeps a single vortex stationary. It's really angular momentum conservation.

But then they collide, and that theorem breaks down. Ultimately, it becomes turbulent and small scale structure dissipates the vorticity.

There may be fluid dynamics literature on this, but it's a lot like magnetic reconnection. Think of the two rings as stiff rods bent into rings (or loops of magnetic field). When they touch, they break and join, and the two rings become one, and that sends a transverse wave up the ring. Then more tension draws another point where they can reconnect again.

If you really want more meat, I like Choudhouri's book on fluids and plasmas, it'll get you 80% of what you need for this. Chapters 4,5,8,14, and 15 will get you most of the basic physics. Other things may have been done in the oceanography literature, but mathematically it's identical to what he does for reconnection.

Edit to add, this isn't a plasma phenomenon, but it's identical to the plasma phenomenon mathematically (or, mostly identically). Since magnetic reconnection has a lot of good literature, that's a good place to start if you want to understand what's going on.

If anyone has not yet read it, I highly recommend And the Band Played On by Randy Shilts. This is the synopsis:

Upon it's first publication twenty years ago, And The Band Played on was quickly recognized as a masterpiece of investigatve reporting. An international bestseller, a nominee for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and made into a critically acclaimed movie, Shilts' expose revealed why AIDS was allowed to spread unchecked during the early 80's while the most trusted institutions ignored or denied the threat. One of the few true modern classics, it changed and framed how AIDS was discussed in the following years. Now republished in a special 20th Anniversary edition, And the Band Played On remains one of the essential books of our time.

I read it and it was fantastic. It's everything you ever wanted to know about the beginnings of AIDS from insiders who were really researching and in the middle of it (and affected by it).

How did you pass math?
A. that's 3 times larger
B. It's a trickle charger
C. Do you never read science news? We're pretty locked in at the efficiency of panels
D. Usb puts out 5 volts, so the original charger would put out 0.12 amp charge
E. The actual product in question is only functional because it has an internal battery and an accessory charger. It has a solar panel for 1 reason, to make you feel good. Check the specs to see how right I am.
F. That means, without using the accessory charger, it would take 25 hours to fully charge the internal battery with sunlight alone under ideal conditions meaning high noon sun directly overhead hitting the panel at a right angle and not warming up the device.

So... A 50 watt panel would put out a 1 amp charge, good enough for most smaller smart phones to charge, is about 2.5 feet by 4 feet. If you want to use just solar, that's what you'd need.

Get one of these. Not only is it great for using your phone with one hand easier, it's an excellent fidget device during work meetings.

This gif ...... this gif is the gif that made me buy my first fountain pen. The Pilot Metropolitan. /r/fountainpens will tell you this is the first pen to get. I also have a decent amount of nibs ( what you see here ) I even have this exact one.

That was about a month ago. Maybe 2. Best part about fountain pens and ink is that it is VERY CHEAP to get into. And if you use it and buy a fucking book you can improve a great deal. You will be busting out lines of beauty and cumming in your pants when you see how much fucking ink can be dumped out of a dremeled out ebonite feed in the Noodler's Ahab Flex.

I'm off to make capital P's. Gooood^byyy^eeee

Just an FYI on all the recommendations for the Victorinox, it is recommended by America's Test Kitchen based on out of the box sharpness and they rated back when it sold in the high $20 range, as opposed to the $40 range that it sells for now.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a great knife in the price range and I bought one for my Mom. But it does tend to lose some of its sharpness as you would expect from a stamped knife. Granted it, it extremely sharp out of the box, so you have some time on it. Also, be aware that it is very light, which is actually a good thing if you are doing a ton of prep work, but a lot of home chefs have the feeling of weigh=Quality & control.

If you are willing to spend $35 on a knife, right now I would buy this knife over the Fibrox.

My Ex-GF had this knife from Cuisinart as stayed perfectly usable with a few times over a hone with each use.

u/[deleted] · 26 pointsr/interestingasfuck

Agreed. I bought this safe a couple years ago for my pistols. Works fantastic. Has plenty of extra space for valuables as well. Plus it comes with hardware to bolt it to the floor or wall if you want.

u/Blasphemy4kidz · 2 pointsr/interestingasfuck

I started with this one, it's a standard high-quality safety razor that comes with a few replacement razors. Very nice starter.

Those are really nice looking, but you can get a really high-quality razor for MUCH less than that:
