Ive had my X for about a month, switching over from the Galaxy S8 so heres my experience

> What kind of case should I get for the X

I have a tempered glass screen protector for the screen and a really chunky bumper case with a clear plastic back (https://www.amazon.co.uk/iPhone-Spigen%C2%AE-Cushion-Technology-Protection/dp/B074CMHQW5/ref=sr_1_6?s=telephone&ie=UTF8&qid=1524581014&sr=1-6&keywords=iphone+x+case) so you can still see the lovely apple logo. I use this as it is grippy, adds a bit of heft to the phone and also the camera cutout is protruded so the lens never touches the surface when i put the phone down. Also, a bit of a placebo but it does give me a bit of drop confidence as the rubber bumper is quite thick and reinforced. If you play alot of games the extra size makes it comfortable to hold for long periods although that same heft might be a downside for gym use. Its great for taking pics as the lens has a low chance of ever being damaged or scratched.

> Would I be a fool to start my iPhone X life with it being a blank slate instead of having the Apple techs clone my current phone setup onto it today?

Im a nerd and always start from scratch on all phones I get cos i enjoy the experience but if you 're in the Apple eco system I guess it would only benefit you by transferring your stuff across?

> do magnets do any damage to the IPhone X

I have a magnet mount in my car and have not had any issues as of yet

> Is there anything I can now do better or differently with my iMac by having the X

I dont have a Mac but I don think theres anything in addition to the X that can be done that other iPhones cant do. The extra spec bump in video recording is great, depends on how seriously you want to get into it if you want to consider getting better equipment.

> is my dumpy series 0 watch going to be a. Detriment to the glory that is the X

I dont have an Apple Watch but really want to get one so this would also be good for me to know lol

> And finally——— any X owners feel like suggesting a game or a two or an app that is just a beast on the X

I dont game much on the X as of yet but when I had an iPhone 6, I purchased Star Wars Knights of the Old republic and played it like ass.
I also bought the game again on the Galaxy S8 and although alot smoother, it still crashed alot. However, on the X it is just a dream. Plays beautifully!

Also, one thing I would recommend is getting a 12w iPad charger for the X, charges much faster compared to in the box charger and it does not require you to get an expensive USB C to lightning cable, you can just use the regular lightning cable.

I'm using the Tech Armor Ballistic Glass screen protector and the Spigen Tough Armor case on my 7+. I personally got the black one to match my matte black. The case is very slim, has pretty good 2-layered protection and a bonus built-in kickstand for watching videos. It's my first time using a tempered glass screen protector and Spigen case. So far, I'm very satisfied with this setup and it looks great!

Any $5-7 tempered glass screen protector will work. You don't have to spend over $10 for one since I feel they're pretty much all the same thing. Amazon is the best place to check first. If you're interested in Spigen cases, they're the cheapest at Amazon.

I've got a tech 21 case, and a spigen clear case but I absolutely love this one above. Feels great, it's super thin, lays flat on a table and has the slightest lip over the screen. Perfect for someone who doesn't want a big bulcky case but feels like they're going to drop or break they're phone without one.

u/WarSport223 · 1 pointr/iphone

I'll tell you one thing; try to find one that is truly edge-to-edge / has really beveled / curved edges.

I got these:
TETHYS Glass Screen Protector Designed for iPhone XS Max (6.5") [3-Pack] [Edge to Edge Coverage] Full Protection Durable Tempered Glass for Apple iPhone XS MAX Guidance Frame Included (Pack of 3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FQY28GR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_DacVBbXCZ9R9W

Like:

  • Super slick surface. Seriously; I've used cheaper screen protectors that feel like they're NOT glass; have an almost sticky / rough feeling to them, your fingers do not glide easily around the screen and it is awful. Don't get the cheapest ones out there. You truly get what you pay for.

  • These are truly full-screen / cover the entire face of the phone. I think this is better as it protects the notch area & the sensitive equipment in there from scratches.

  • comes with a nifty guide to help perfectly center the protector. Essential for OCD people like me. :-)

    Don't like:

  • the edge isn't beveled quite as much as others claim to be and it's a little annoying / doesn't feel good on your finger when you swipe up from the bottom to go home. It's a little rough as your finger goes over the edge of the protector.

Seeing how often you perform that gesture, I'm seriously considering looking for & getting a good protector that has ultra-beveled edges, something like this:

ESR Screen Protector for The iPhone Xs Max, [3D+ Maximum Protection] [Full Coverage], Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector for The iPhone 6.5” (2018 Release), Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G42KLZZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_SecVBb6M47PHF

    Aw hell...I'll prob get these & try them - it's only $11.....

Spigen slim case

  • Love this case! Thin and keeps me from scratching up the back of the phone.

    Rhino shield

  • Scratch and impact protection, without the fear of shattering. I backed the kickstarter for the original and continue to love their screen protectors. This is my 3rd phone I've used it on.

    Amazon Basics charging cables

  • Not worth paying the apple tax for an extra charging cable. I have one for work, and one for mine and my wife's car.

    InfiniApps CD slot car mount

  • Love this mount. It works perfectly. The magnet keeps the phone stable, and it just pops right on. My last magnet mount (Tetrax) wasn't anywhere near as easy to use.

I had the bodyguardz HD screen protector on mine for a few weeks, but now I have the clear wrap skin stuff from Skinomi on my 6+. I have it on screen and the back. It took some time to apply, but I love it. It s not quite as perfectly glass-like smooth or zero distortion like a tempered glass cover or something, but it's way better than the last skins of this type I used way back when for my 3GS. It's also CHEAP. They're on eBay and Amazon for like $5. I didn't like bodyguards because the rigid glass or more smooth clear HD plastic covers can't do the edges of the screen. You end up feeling the edge of the screen protector when you swipe.

There's a trick to applying them more easily too. Just get a bathroom steamy from a hot shower (bathroom door closed) and the humidity will knock dust out of air. Then apply the cover.

I'm also not sure about this particular case, but I'm using Totallee Clear case on my XS Max and I love it. As for the screen protector, I purchased TETHYS Glass Screen Protector (edge to Edge) 3-Pack for $14. I was never a fan of any screen protector, as they take away from the design and feel but this one is really nice! Basically can't tell its there, especially with a case on. Feels just like the stock glass and coating seems good so far. I would recommend!

u/JimmithyWeav · 2 pointsr/iphone

I bought this Spigen case and I love it! Thin, light, and nice protection. I dropped my phone back flat on concrete and it made the loudest slap noise. Phone was fine! I was 100% sure the back glass cracked but it’s still good!

Edit* I also bought this case as well. I had this similar case for my iPhone 5s at the time. I loved that case which is why I want for it on my iPhone X as well!

u/hwrhs87 · 1 pointr/iphone

Bought the Spigen Tough Armor case off Amazon.

NOT the Slim Armor (SA), but the Tough Armor (TA). The Tough Armor plastic almost feels like titanium...it is a smooth finish, but has a brushed metal feel. It's nice.

It has squared edges for better gripping, a kickstand, and doesn't add much bulk to the phone.

From someone that normally has an Otterbox Defender case, I'm quite enjoying this one. I threw in a basic matte screen protector, and I feel like my phone is quite safe from everyday use and the occasional drop.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00LL987W2/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1412732045&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40

They make one for pluses too. I got the 4.7" one and it's awesome. The front is not a 100% fit. The holes are a little misaligned but nothing that will screw with the functions of the phone.

Pro-tip, to get the sides to stick, first get the backside to in place. Let it dry a little bit so the backside won't shift anymore. Then wait until the side pieces completely dry so it becomes super sticky. Now fold it along the curves of the side. Then saran wrap the phone for about an hour or so. Make sure to turn the phone off first. The saran wrap will ensure the skin is pulled tight against your phone. If you can do this overnight, even better.

Install the front after or before the back. I did it before but it might be easier after.

I’m a huge Anker fan, they have really well made products at amazing prices.

I’m using 2 of these, one on my desk and one in the living room. I love how they’re vertical; I have it positioned on my desk in a way that unlocks my face without me having to grab the phone, so I can tap my phone and quickly read my notifications when it unlocks using my face, and only lift it if i need to respond

For my bedside table, I have this one, which is a lot cheaper but slower charge. It’s okay though because I put it there before bed when going to sleep and don’t need a fast charge or anything.

But one of each is really all you want and you’ll have a great set up, and its still cheaper than buying a single Samsung or Belkin wireless charger

u/Ballaz408 · 1 pointr/iphone

I've been thinking about that as well but I just know one drop without a case even with tempered glass on the front and back would just break my heart hahaha. I've been eyeing the Spigen case since it has a clear back so you can at least see the back as well.
https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Hybrid-Cushion-Technology-Protection/dp/B074CMHQW5/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1509633228&sr=1-4&keywords=iphone+x+spigen

u/ChrisH100 · 3 pointsr/iphone

Well it’s a concern with any product that usually isn’t certified in some standard, like UL certified or something. Shotty wiring and circuit board on that wireless charger can make it squeal if it’s short circuiting or something.

Usually buying from a reputable source like from Apple, Mophie, Anker, Best Buy is a good call.

Amazon sometimes sells devices that aren’t certified or whatever reason (sometimes counterfeit)... as they don’t really check that stuff.

For something inexpensive, I’d recommend this from Anker

Edit: also it looks like it has fake reviews on the amazon page that do not relate to the product. All of them except the last one seem fake?

Spigen has great cases and it's sold on Amazon. Highly recommend them. Their armor case is great and offers amazing protection from drops

u/optikalblitz · 5 pointsr/iphone

Not a direct answer to your question, but I found Pitaka’s case and magnetic Qi charging vent clip to be the best combination. The steel plate that is molded into the case is circular which allows you to keep all wireless charging capabilities.

Magnetic Qi Mount

Mag Case

They also make a tougher case if you don’t like the slimline.

Hope this helps! I love my Pitaka stuff.

u/mgweir · 2 pointsr/iphone

iOttie Easy One Touch 2 Car Mount It really sticks to everything.

TwelveSouth Hirise Dock Looks nice and works great as a bedside stand.

Spigen Tough Armor Case Looks good, protects well and has a kick stand for video viewing.

u/lord-of-mischief · 1 pointr/iphone

True. But when I ordered this one two days before launch, I just grabbed whatever is available on Amazon. Just so I know I have something to put the phone in when I get it.

The case seems to be built well and the buttons seem to be okay to press (I pressed my iPhone x firmly to the side and tried to press the buttons). They’re a bit harder than pushing naked, but not too hard.

Which is why I have another order on Amazon for the ESR case which is the same brand I use for my current iPhone X. It works perfect for me including how the buttons press. It’s not in stock yet, but will ship when it goes back. At least I have a temporary case I can use. :)

I have several of these, my husband has 2 of them, and like 5 of my friends have purchased the exact same one on my recommendation. Have been using them nonstop since the X came out. Perfect angle for FaceID. I have them on my desks at home and work, and on my nightstand. Cheap and work perfectly.

I have not used the mophie wireless charging car vent mount, so I cannot comment on that product, though it does look pretty neat if it works well. In case others comment and share a negative experience about that product, I wanted to share my setup for a few ideas.

I have an iPhone XS Max, so no headphone jack, and an older car, so no built-in bluetooth.

I use the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 Car Mount Universal Phone Holder to mount my phone to the windshield.

(I noticed you mentioned a vent mount, there are plenty of options available for that type of mount as well.)

Then, I use the Mpow MBR2 Bluetooth Car Kit - this allows me to play my music on my phone via bluetooth by connecting an audio cable into the Aux jack in my car and I can charge my phone using a lightning cable. I chose this model since it is powered via the car charger instead having to deal with rechargeable bluetooth adapters.

It may seem a little clunky, but it works well until I purchase a new car (I'm currently at 185,000 miles).

I just bought and installed 2 of these on iPhone 6's last night, although I bought the "easy install" version ( http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KXDMBZG/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_vSHCub1DGM3SF ). I botched the screen protector the first time and it got dirty and picked up some dust that I wasn't able to get off the plastic so I binned it. The second install went perfectly however.

Overall it seems really good and for $5 its certainly worth a try

u/SlipperyJim211 · 1 pointr/iphone

The SolidSuit is $35 on Amazon (if you're in the USA), and the same price on RhinoShield's website. That doesn't seem too expensive to me, but your circumstances may be different from mine.

Also, I picked up an Anker pad on a lighting deal, and I'm happy to confirm that the SolidSuit is 100% compatible with wireless charging. So that's nice.

u/Clienterror · -2 pointsr/iphone

I went with this case and this screen protector. They work good together, it helps keep the X slim but totally protected. I also have custom skin to show through the clear back.

u/damstr · 1 pointr/iphone

I would. That's a really good price. They are usually $15-20ish.

This is the case I got.
https://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Spigen-Exact-Fit-Premium-Finish/dp/B01GIWF4EK

I used this case for my 6 Plus and 6S and loved it. Provided grip and leaves the top and bottom of the iPhone open like the Apple leather cases.

u/tubezninja · 5 pointsr/iphone

Yes, it's worth it.

Some charging pads are pretty cheap. This one works really well.

Once you charge your phone simply by putting it down, and then just pick it up again when you want to, you realize how worth it this really is.

u/ffaorlandu · 2 pointsr/iphone

I personally prefer the flexible rubber NGP/TPU style cases. They are easy to get on and off when necessary, they protected from minor falls, and they don't add much bulk to the phone at all.

I got the Spigen Liquid Amor from Amazon for $12. I also like Incipio brand rubber cases.

u/james9120 · 3 pointsr/iphone

This

Used them on my 6S Plus, 7 Plus, my whole family uses them now. Got a couple friends too.

Reason being is it's super thin, extremely grippy and easy on/off. Quality is 10/10.

u/AustinDizzy · 1 pointr/iphone

I use the Poetic Atmosphere (Grey) Case for my iPhone 5. I really like it as I'm not fond of bulky cases that increase my phone's dimensions, yet I love minimalism and a sense of security.

Here's a few pictures of my case in particular.

u/forestowls · 11 pointsr/iphone

Here ya go!
Wireless Charger, Clear Spigen Case, Spigen Car Mount Case, Peel Case, Glass Screen Protector, Apple Watch Stand, Airpods Stand.
I realize that the magnetic Spigen case won't work with wireless charging, but it's specifically going to be used as a car mount case for long drives/trips etc. These are Canadian links to Amazon, unfortunately.. but I'm sure that they should be easy to find elsewhere.

u/sweepsingle · 1 pointr/iphone

I went with this one. Shipped faster than I expected (prime offered free Wed delivery, came Tues), and I really like it. I don't use cases all the time, but I like to have them for when I'm going to be out and about.

Apple mentions Mophie and therefore everyone thinks they have to get Mophie.

I grabbed three of these and they are perfect. Plus, they sit upright. I don't want my X laying down on its back like my ex wife.

Just upright and happy for all to see.

Best slim case I’ve owned, it is strong and thin. It goes on sale every once in a while. Got mine for $35. The other cool thing is it has built in steel plates and can still wireless charge.

u/tonyismailctg · 2 pointsr/iphone

Sorry I was busy for a day and did not get the chance to reply. Here is a link directly from Spigen store on Amazon. I trust Amazon most since people sometimes disguise themselves on Ebay as the store.

I do not have these issues with my wireless charging. I bought a Chinese charging stand off Amazon for $19 and it works perfect. I don't have to move it around to get it to start charging. I can use it in portrait or landscape mode. It doesn't get hot either.

I've had it since I had the S7. I'll admit that I rarely have to use it with the S8 Plus. I take it off my charger at home at 8am and by 6pm I'm still at 70%. I only have to use it if I spend a lot of time in the basement here at work where I don't get a strong cell signal and that drains the battery super quick, even with wifi calling.

Most slim cases like Peel’s will tend to get like that. I’ve tried both the Spigen and Elago thin cases and through time they tend to get loose and let dirt in between. I would highly recommend not going with these types of cases.

You might want to just look into this snap on cases like the following :

https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-iPhone-Premium-Coating-Compatible/dp/B074CM6PRW

https://www.amazon.com/elago-Slim-Fit-iPhone-Case/dp/B075KQF6PD

https://www.amazon.com/Magcase-Material-Strongest-Durable-X-Black/dp/B075NBVRFM

For me personally these type of slim snap on cases are better as they tend to not run against the phone causing those little scratches

Personally I went with Spigen Rugged Armor on my 7 Plus 256gb Matte Black and loving it although in the past I've had a bit more protection with the Spigen Tough Armor and it's never failed me and I've dropped my phone hundreds of times, so may get this eventually but currently loving the Rugged Armor.

this one.

Yeah I’m fairly sure I’m not on fast charging, I’m using just a normal adapter for it. I love using the charger for when I’m between 50-90% battery and don’t mind a slower charge that’s more convenient.

u/aducatelli · 1 pointr/iphone

If you want a super protective case go for the Otterbox Defender Series. However, as I don't own one for the 6+ I can't comment on how it feels to hold. I had the Apple Leather Case but just picked up this case and love it to death. Hope this helps!! :)

I have these -

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019BREFE4

And yes, they improve both the fit (for me) and the sound of the AirPods. The sound improvement is due to the increased isolation caused by the tighter fit. Downside is that they have to come on and off because of the case fit. So I only use them if I plan on extended use of the AirPods (they do come on and off easily). When I want really good sound and fit, I reach for either my Bose Soundsports or QuietComfort 35 II's but it's hard to beat the convenience of the AirPods.

So far the mophie or the Belkin wireless charger is certified or recommended (thus, the higher pricing?) .

But the other Qi wireless charger are so far so good.

This is the one I’m using and it’s great so far.

EDIT: I used to get the flat wireless charging but changed over to the stand like the one in the link, cause it allows me to charge and use my phone, at the same unlocking via Face ID.

Yup, I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0756Z8X82/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6NiACbK5ZNRD3

I'd recommend the [Poetic Atmosphere] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0093CDLM0/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00) case. It is incredibly thin and semi-transparent so you can still view the beauty of your phone. What colour iPhone 5 did you get?

Nice, i got a seneo fast charging wireless one.

i also have a usb current reader, so i could find the sweet spot of the wireless coils to get full potential (7.5 atm).

Def. affects the charge rate, for me to get full 7.5, i had to put some spacers at bottom of stand to raise phone up.... thicker cases i got less charge rate (maybe 4.o instead of full 7.5) (Charger i got https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H76NIAS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

This one comes with a plastic frame that snaps on the phone to help with alignment. By far the easiest screen protector I’ve ever installed. I always put them on the kiddos phones. I’ve never really used one in the past. My 8+ had zero scratches after more than a year of use. I got an XS Max and went without. Within a week I had 3 fairly deep scratches. I took it back and apple exchanged it. I immediately installed a protector on the new phone. Not sure which phone you have but I’m sure these guys make a protector for all models.

It's also protected my phone from a lot of drops, and has a small lip to protect the screen.

Why pay $40 for this case when you can get a near identical Poetic Atmosphere for $9.00.. unless I'm missing a major difference. The Atmosphere is a great case and it looks nice too.

edit: Apparently the case you linked has some kind of film for the front screen. I still wouldn't pay that much for that case though.

I run the Skinomi screen protector. Installing it can be difficult if it's your first time (YouTube it). I like it because it's cheap and it's the only screen protector that I have found that goes all the way to the edge on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Mine stay in my ears fine, but I did buy a pair of these to use when commuting to/from work (I take a train/bus): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019BREFE4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They admittedly take away some of the convenience factor as they don't fit in the charge case, but they help significantly with directing the sound properly into my ears. I've been using the same pair for about a month and haven't noticed any stretching of the silicon so far.

Thanks for the reply. What's funny is the thing that made me buy the BeatsX over AirPods last year was I wanted them for working out, but every time I do a bench workout where I lay on my back, the lanyard falls down my back and is annoying to deal with. I had to use the Wing attachment on the BeatsX to keep them from falling out for me, and I see on Amazon that you can buy a similar attachment.

Only thing I don't really like is the kickstand it is only for landscape. My old case for the 4s, the stand allowed both positions. Also the power button is hard to push. But if I try a push on the very top edge of the button it works better.

But it is one of the thinnest cases that was not just a jell case and did not add a bunch of bulk.

I think that it offers a surprising amount of protection for the lack of bulk that it adds. Spigen Ultra Hybrid with the Red Xr.

edit: the one with the matte black sides.

u/mattmu13 · 4 pointsr/iphone

I bought 3 cases:

  • Spigen Ultra Hybrid
  • ESR Crystal Clear Slim Soft TPU
  • Humixx Aluminum Bumper Frame

I've used Spigen cases before but this one had weird sharp notches on the corners at the back to prevent the wobble from the camera section protruding, that turned me off that case.

The bumper seemed ok but was a little bulkier than I wanted and mine didn't contain the rear screen protector either

I ended up settling for the ESR case and am still using it now. It's soft TPU and fits snugly. I have the dark one (to go with the dark phone) and you can still see the logo and stuff through the back of the case. It has the corner drop protection and the slightly raised ridge prevent the camera or the screen from touching the surface you put it on (assuming the surface is hard). They all seem to work with the Qi chargers I have too.

I took all 3 cases into work as another guy was also getting the phone. He checked them all and also ended up buying the ESR case.

On the downside, I've just bought some new gloves that allow me to use the touchscreen and the case seems a little slipper with the gloves on, but then I expect a lot of cases would (unless you get those weird cases with all the ridges and angles which I'm not keen on).

I'm always on the lookout for other better, more suitable cases but haven't found one I liked yet.

For the case I purchased this one with the ring and magnetic center. But the ring got loose and the magnet isn't strong enough so I purchased this one instead and put a magnetic plate behind it so I can mount it in my car

For the glass protector, I purchased OMOTION 9H tempered glass

u/egzwygart · 2 pointsr/iphone

I'm a huge fan of my Poetic Atmosphere case. It fits very, very slim, shows off the phone and also does pretty well with drop protection. There is one gripe that people seem to have about the case design: the rubbery bumper material (the colored part of the case, the rest is hard plastic) on the bottom front edge of the phone may stretch a bit. That said, it's not something I've had a problem with, and I've had the same case since March. If it does bug you, you can always just take a pair of scissors to it.

Edit: One more thing. The phone and case must be clean before you put the case on, because it's a bitch to get off. You won't damage or scuff the phone removing it by any means, but it IS a pain in the ass. Par for the course with cases that are slim and form fitting like this.
