Yeah, the 50mm is a mild tele on a crop sensor - perfect for some things, but a bit restrictive. The 24mm is great, and so cheap that it's hard to go wrong with it. Won't even save any money getting it used.

For cars (or other highly reflective things), a polarizer filter is a really great accessory. The pancake doesn't rotate as it focuses so it makes it easy to use.

52mm thread. Amazon has them for $10. Get a little step-up ring and you can use it with your nifty fifty too - which is very usable for car photography too, lots of opportunity for close-ups there.

Thanks buddy I appreciate that, I’ve looked at this lens before too and it looks like a great choice.

I think I’m going to roll the dice and try my luck with this first

Altura Photo 8mm f/3.0 Professional Ultra Wide Angle Aspherical Fisheye Lens for Canon EOS 77D 80D Rebel T7 T7i T6i T6s T6 SL2 SL3 DSLR Cameras https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6WEKDF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_454JDbWN4XFVT

From everything I’ve read it seems like you don’t need incredibly fast lenses to get a decent shot, so I’m hoping 2.8 vs 3.0 doesn’t make a huge difference.

Also if the angle is too wide and creates a fish eye effect, it seems to be easily fixable in light room as seen in the video below.

I’m using an APS C camera so maybe the 8mm won’t be TOO wide

It should look like the fullest frame picture shown in this article

If I end up not liking it, I’ll send it back and get the exact one that you mentioned.

Thanks!

This is the exact set up I use. CamDive is also manufactured as Meikon so you may want to google both names and see if either one is a bit cheaper than the other. Right now the camdive is at a pretty good price. You should know that this housing will only fit the kit lens, or a prime lens that is the same length of shorter. If you want a high end aluminum housing, check out Nauticam.

Congrats on your new camera, I'm sure that you'll love it!

Thanks! I've used lots of different pinhole cameras, some home made, some purchased, some built by friends. This was shot with a Zero Image. The camera is literally a wooden box with a small hole in the front. Zero's are a bit spendy for pinhole cameras. You can get a similar degree of accuracy with the Holga WPC (the pinholga). Or, if you are really curious about a fantastic piece of art and equipment, my friend Don builds these. They are wooden boxes that are completely amazing!

I scan with an Epson Perfection V500. A friend of mine recommended it highly, and I've been very pleased with it so far. It can be a pain getting the negatives into the film holder, but it's nothing a little tape in the right places can't fix!

As far as the technical things go, I scan it at 48bits and set the resolution to 1200. Not amazing for blowing the picture up for prints, but it definitely makes it easier to handle for digital purposes. I find that if I scan at 2400, I end up with a 15-20 megabyte JPG when all is said and done. That can make flickr cranky on occasion :)

Overall, it's well worth the $160 it's going for on Amazon right now.

Thank you! It definitely helps to know what you want out of the LED before going nuts with it lol. I actually shot this scene at the beach one night and was getting frustrated that the LED was blown out in the pitch black. I had to be very quick with the LED remote to turn it on and off while exposing and do a couple exposure blends in post, but I'm happy with the outcome.

The LED is really cheap. I found a pack of 10 on Amazon. These little things are awesome and can even be submerged in water for other cool effects.

There is. I shoot with a Canon, so I'm not going to be too much help on the specifics, but my camera has color/scene modes that tweak the resulting image based on the settings (I think, for example, the landscape scene - the mountain icon - drops the blues, which is essentially what Paint.net did when it leveled your photo).

Take a look at Alexandre Buisse's website - He compiled a 30-part photography course on Reddit in /r/photoclass, and has since moved it all to his website for easy reading.

If you're more interested in books, I highly recommend Scott Kelby's "Digital Photography Book". There are three volumes in total, and they cover all sorts of photography scenarios in very easy to understand language, and he includes instructions for both Canons and Nikons. I refer back to my copies all the time.

What we see here is a nice solid formation of altocumulus clouds, similar but not to be confused with altostratus clouds. These are puffy water droplet clouds that occur at mid elevations from 6,500ft to 16,000ft, as denoted by the prefix "alto" meaning middle. These clouds are somewhat common and usually accompany larger weather systems and pockets of moisture across long journeys, often lasting for 100s of miles, and are seen year round regardless of season. Here we see altocumulus undulatus, or mackerel sky as other redditors have pointed out. This is a result of really consistent wind patterns across the sky, which leads to this nice patterning of clouds we see here. If they take up a large portion of the sky, that indicates that a fair amount of moisture is present, and if they occur simultaneously with other clouds, that may indicate a large system is inbound, and to possibly expect a significant change in weather.

They form as a result of varying pockets of pressure, primarily with horizontal wind currents. Vertical currents are not present or significant if these clouds are overhead. When pressure changes, it can cause water vapor in the atmosphere to condense on CCN (cloud condensation nuclei, pretty much just reealllyyy fine dust) and form clouds. Because these clouds form at mid elevations they are water droplet clouds, as opposed to colder ice crystal clouds, however if they become too cold they can freeze and turn into an ice based cloud.

If you're interested, I would suggest getting a book/guide similar to this. I have it and use it daily to identify clouds that are over me, how they form, and what they mean. I can now predict the weather fairly accurately just based on clouds a lone (only within the next 24 hrs, but still that's a cool skill to have). Clouds are very complex, but they can be really cool and incredibly foretelling and predicting. If you're outdoors a lot, it's really in invaluable skill to have.

Do you have photoshop? Do you have a tablet (something like this

What are you shooting with? Are you shooting in RAW or jpg?

That's what I use, actually spend a bit of time creating a signature and then just re-use it over and over whenever necessary.

If you dont have that, and don't care about signing it that's fine with me. I just wanted to put you at ease that I wasn't going to use it for anything other than my own wall art. It's your call.

Also, if you want some advice/help or have any photo type questions feel free to ask, i'll put my email at the end.

If you want to send me the file that would be better than printing and mailing me a copy, as I want to print in in a 20"x30" size (pretty big).

Yeah you gotta have fun with it or what's the point unless you are a pro.

They make gooseneck clamps for holding backdrops like this one which might be easy enough to attach to your tripod. Or you could repurpose a gooseneck iPad holder for the same effect and a bit more cash left in your wallet. Hope you have fun experimenting!

http://www.amazon.com/Vivitar-Digital-Swivel-Bounce-Auto-Focus/dp/B001TP6TDW

This thing works great, hugely improves indoor shots, and was an amazing deal when compared to Canon's line of bounce flashes.

Use these in it, because these things eat batteries!
http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-eneloop-Pre-Charged-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B004RP2VNI/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1344621021&sr=1-2&keywords=sanyo+eneloop

Also, I dropped my camera once with this on it and it shattered the hot shoe mount area on the flash. I called Vivitar (in New Jersey, I think) and they sent me a new one for free!!!! I can't give them enough praise for that...

I have an enclosure for it that I use often when i'm prepared for the rain this one specifically.

However, in this instance, I did not have it with me - so I had to hold my umbrella over it and hope for the best. It still got pretty wet, but still works perfectly!

I have this one and love it. Make sure you get one that puts the camera at the top of the bag, not the bottom. I think the camera body is better protected that way.

Hahaha silly, but I know the answer to this! We're actually room mates, so I see it all the time! He uses Imperial Pomade. Amazon link here. Thanks for your nice comment!

u/webmonk · 2 pointsr/itookapicture

Not sure how you're diffusing, but I bought one of these a while ago and was impressed at how well it works. It's still a direct light source so the pictures will look a little flatter than shooting with a bounce or off-camera flash would but for $20 vs. hundreds for a speedlight system it's a really good start. But I bet with as handy as you guys appear to be I bet you've already built your own!

u/DankSinatra · 1 pointr/itookapicture

Haha, yeah, it is. It's actually a journal, my gf bought it for me, I believe at urban outfitters. It's pretty fun to go back through and reminicse. here it is on amazon

u/Liane_the_Wayfarer · 3 pointsr/itookapicture

A great start. It only gets more fun from here.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book for you or anyone else attempting something similar.
