It's $100 for the kit, including two switches. Additional switches are $40, not cheap, but the price is similar to other offerings and they work well.

The early release of the Pop wasn't always reliable, but in subsequent updates it's become rock solid. Far more reliable than the Lifx bulbs themselves. I don't recall the last time one of my Pops failed to work.

Why don't you try one of these:

Looks to me like it would suit you better.

TP-Link N300 Wireless Wi-Fi Nano Travel Router with Range Extender/Access Point/Client/Bridge Modes (TL-WR802N) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TQEX8BO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DSeKzbFHQEF06

Pretty easy to set up, plugged it into the back of the onhub and followed the instructions that came with the additional router. Anything that has issues with channel switching just goes to that router. All the light and the router still shows up in the on hub app too which is convenient for some stuff.

I’m generally pretty technically proficient, but more software then networking— what’s the difference between an “access point” and s “Wi-Fi router”? Both just route between physical Ethernet & Wi-Fi, right? Is this a terminology thing?

Looks like this:
Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-PRO-E Access Point Single Unit NEW (No PoE Included In Box) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079DSW6XX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8OsaBbQMD3KSN

I plan to get a POE switch already.

picked mine up today too, expecting to pay $60 each.

Happy to have three working Lifx bulbs for $30 less than I was expecting.

Plus, Amazon seems to be matching this price: http://www.amazon.com/LIFX-Adjustable-Multicolor-Dimmable-Required/dp/B0161IJ5F0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451187269&sr=8-1&keywords=lifx

I ordered a set of these E26 to E12 Adapters just to be safe.

Would something like this work? I'm assuming the strips are about like most LED strips in the way they connect, so if that did work they'd work separately from the LIFX controls but you'd at least be able to get some use out of them.

Thanks for the reply - I will test this once I'm back home. All of the lamps are either plugged into outlets that have an adapter similar to this or an outlet that can be controlled by a wall switch. Not sure if this has an effect or not.

u/technicalleigh · 3 pointsr/lifx

Something like the new Logitech Pop, perhaps? And then just cover up the existing wall switch with a removable cover so it's still accessible if you need to power-cycle the LIFX bulb.

I was thinking of using ledenet lights with this ledenet wifi

But I wanted LEDs like the lifx that could display different colors at the same time

Edit: it says it works with music

u/kungfuaddict · 1 pointr/lifx

Agreed! 100% I'll be testing THESE after arrival later today.

I use this in each of my bathrooms to turn on/off the lights and fans. Comes on instantly when they see motion.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KCYD9PC

You can also buy Wink hub

http://www.amazon.com/Wink-PWHUB-WH17-Connected-Home-Hub/dp/B00PV6GAI4/

or SmartThings hub

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SmartThings-Hub-2nd-Generation/dp/B010NZV0GE/

along with a motion sensor. You can then set it up to turn on/off when you enter/leave your house and/or enter/leave a room. You can even set it up to slowly turn on the lights in your bedroom at a certain time to help wake up. There might be a delay with Wink or Smarthings of up to 5 seconds.

Edit: Just noticed you mentioned false positives with pets and motion detection. You should be able to set the motion detection levels so that your pets don't activate the motion sensor. I have a motion sensor for my alarm and it's set enough so that it sees me move, but not my dogs. I haven't had the motion sensors for my lights in the bathrooms go off from the dogs, but my dogs don't go into any of the bathrooms much.

this is an ad on amazon, but all of the bulbs in their drawing are upside-down... this feels like false advertising...
