Here is some advice I wrote about in the past when asked a similar question, edited the part in bold that deal with time of posession

> Oster 76 requires alot of maintenance and is very expensive (because you have to buy actual blades instead of guards, so if you wanted a #2 you would snap of the #1 and put a #2) but it is a very durable clipper, assuming you keep up with the maintenance. For a full set it will cost you around $200+ depending on how many blades you buy
http://www.amazon.com/Oster-76076-010-Classic-Professional-Clipper/dp/B00070E8LA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359765399&sr=8-1&keywords=Oster+76

>If you dont want to deal with the maintenance you can look at the Andis Improved Masters, they are durable, require the basic maintenance (oil and wipe of blades in between use). Downside is that it gets hot very quickly. This clipper will cost you about $100 including the guards which you will buy separately. These are probably the most popular clipper, probably more popular than the 76 because it is better for all around clippers and requires less maintenance. There is also the Fade Masters which is the same clipper but with a different blade, recommend the Improved Masters over the Fade if you wanted to buy one clipper.
http://www.amazon.com/Andis-Improved-Master-Professional-Clipper/dp/B000BBGS36/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359765434&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=Andsi+Masters

>Another option is the Wahl 5 star senior, it is a good all around clipper like the Masters, it is a bit more cheaper, it will cost you around $60-70 including the guards. It is more powerful than the Masters (especially if you get the one with the latest v9000 motor) and doesnt get as hot as fast. Also, all Wahl products come with a 2 year warranty, some even 3.
There is also the Wahl 5 star Magic Clipper which is the same as the Wahl 5 star seniors except they have a plastic housing instead of metal. Which makes it less durable but also means it takes longer to heat up. As a result of the plastic instead of metal housing it is a little cheaper at about $40.Also requires basic maintenance.
http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-8545-5-star-Senior-Clipper/dp/B0009J8XSS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359765582&sr=8-1&keywords=5+star+senior
http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-WA8451-Hair-Clipper/dp/B000ZMAL2U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1359765628&sr=8-2&keywords=magic+clip

>I have the Magic Clipper and I like them even more so than my father's Andis Masters which I used exclusively for about 4 yrs until I recently got the Magic Clipper almost a year ago. I have very coarse hair, so I appreciate the extra power the Magic Clipper has over the Masters, you might not need it. Look on youtube for more in depth reviews for these clippers.

You should use any trimmer with the guard on the balls. The Lawn Mower 2.0 has a ceramic blade, not a plastic one. Ceramic blades are supposed to cut closer then stainless steel ones. What I find curious is why you have to replace the blades of The Lawn Mower 2.0 so often. They state is for hygienic reasons. There are sprays and cleaners for trimmer and clipper blades: https://barber-and-beauty.andis.com/product/blade-care-plus%26reg%3B-spray-bottle-%2812-count-case%29/?item-no=12590 ,

https://www.amazon.com/Andis-Blade-Care-Spray-16-Ounce/dp/B004O95HCO/ref=sr_1_24?crid=2JNM1F4NZ4OCB&keywords=hair+clippers+cleaning+spray&qid=1558802744&s=gateway&sprefix=hair+clippers+cleaning%2Caps%2C674&sr=8-24 .

I never used The Lawn Mower 2.0 trimmer or any products from Manscaped, but I've heard good things about the company.

I use the Philips Norelco Series 1100 for the armpits and pubic area(shaft and balls): https://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/BG1026_60/norelco-bodygroom-1100-wet-dry-body-groomer-series-1000 ,

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010XIGBUQ/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2RCCIA4QDKERJ&colid=BW9IAKXX6MZO. It has 2 combs. One that trims at 0.5 mm and one that trims at 3 mm. I use the trimmer with the 0.5 mm on the armpits and pubic area(shaft and balls). It looks almost as close as it would be shaven. It runs on an AA battery. I use this Phillips AA battery: https://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/LR6P4B_27/power-alkaline-battery ,

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0751GLKYR/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1515162078&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=philips+aa+battery&dpPl=1&dpID=41imti30n0L&ref=plSrch. This is the battery that comes with the trimmer and it's also recommended by Philips. I use it once a week and the battery lasts me about 4 months. The trimmer is waterproof. I have it for 3 years now and it still produces a very good trim. I am very satisfied with the product and I recommend it. The fact that it runs on an AA battery means that it's best used for smaller areas(like armpits and pubic area). If you would use it for all of the body hair you would run through the batteries very fast. Since I use it only on my armpits and the groin area, it lasts about 4 months.

On the rest of my body hair(arms, legs, chest, butt) I use a trimmer from Remington which is also waterproof: http://www.remingtonproducts.com/Products/Mens/Clippers-And-Trimmers/Face-and-Body-Trimmers/PG6255-WETech-Face-and-Body-Kit.aspx?fbclid=IwAR3GgMKde9FZ-4v_EFo46-2OHC6O42kr3L3IBcc61qw3MuVIhI44K9qdB68 ,

Here is my routine with items and products that work for me.

DAILY Morning:

  2. Shower with warm- not hot- water; shampoo (every other day) and condition (every day); wash pits, feet, in between toes, crotch and crack with antibacterial soap and washcloth; wash rest of body with loofah and body wash of choice.
  3. Wash face with warm water and a gentle face cleanser; shave; apply witch hazel to face, neck, and forehead; apply moisturizer with SPF
  4. Dry off completely, especially pits, in between toes, crotch, and crack; apply Fresh Balls , deodorant, foot cream or powder , and hand cream (as necessary).

    DAILY Night:

  5. Step 1 of morning routine
  6. Wash hands and clean under finger nails * with antibacterial soap
  7. Wash face with warm water and face cleanser; apply moisturizer.

  10. While feet are soaking trim fingernails * and clean under them with pointed end of a nail file*, carefully; dry feet.
  11. Trim toenails* and clean under them with nail file*.
  12. Check nose, ears and eyebrows for any hairs that need to be trimmed or anything in between eyebrows that needs to be removed.

  14. Manscape after the morning routine.

I have a few resources that have specific guides, I will post them later. I hope this is somewhat helpful and if you have any questions, let me know.

A good boar's hair brush and some oils will help shape your beard at this stage, and it will keep your beard soft, and smelling great. You've got a great beard for 6 weeks in man, so keep it up!

For oils I recommend browsing Amazon or ask a local barber if they have any oils. My favourite oil right now is this guy.

Also, be sure to check out /r/beards for additional information!

Once or twice a week, exfoliate your head/face/neck with St Ives Apricot Scrub (2% salicylic acid) in the shower and finish by toning with witch hazel. I use Thayer's, but you can get plain generic witch hazel just about anywhere, like Target. Just be sure it is alcohol free, and a little goes a long way. Exfoliating will clean out the pores, and toning will close them back up so that dirt can't easily get back in, as well as moisturize.

Other than that, just wash with soap and water 2-3 times per day, including shower. You may want to get a daily face soap, like Cetaphil.

u/AttilaTheHungover · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Used to have this problem also, maybe just not as severe. I would always get itchy rash type things and ingrown hairs on my neck. The following worked for me, but it may not for anyone else considering everyone is different.

First, I only shave after I get out of a nice hot shower. Really opens up the pores and gets the hair soft. Then, instead of using typical canned commercial shaving cream, I switched to hair conditioner, and it works well, with the added bonus of adding a little moisture to your skin in the process. To actually shave, I switched to using one of these instead of one of the "five-blade-40-dollar-high-tec" razors. I know it's not technically a true straight razor but I'm in college ballin' on a budget so it's what I can afford. It will take some time to get good at, and you will cut yourself in the process, but once you get the hang of it, it is a much closer shave. Then, rinse your face, dry it off, and throw on some mild scented aftershave.

As suggested, /r/wicked_edge is an incredibly helpful community for things like this.

TL;DR stopped using commercial shaving cream, bought a "straight razor," shaved with the grain, fixed all my problems. /r/wicked_edge plug

Bought this about a month ago, so far it's been great, the measurements are displayed on either side of the head as well as a nice illuminated screen on the front. It holds a good charge and the vacum feature actually works really really well to the point where I can walk around while I'm getting ready in the morning while trimming rather than hovering over the sink.

Get:

Cetalphil

Witch Hazel

A good sunscreen/moisturizer. I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Sensitive-Oil-Free-Moisture-1-7-Ounce/dp/B003156NJ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1311349318&sr=1-1

Wash face with cetaphil. Rinse your face with the witch hazel. Add moisturizer/sunscreen.

Cetaphil is a gentle soap with no dyes or fragrances. Witch hazel is pretty much a miracle of nature and will help with acne, inflammation, scarring, texture, and evenness. Moisturizer and Sunscreen help keep moisture in, keep your skin healthy and healthy looking, and the UV protection fights aging.

I am assuming you want a clean shave? Not the stubble look?

My personal preference for shaving the parts of my face that are unbeareded or for the rare occasions I forget that I look like a man baby without facial hair is a double edged razor and this shaving cream
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Taylor-Old-Bond-Street-Sandalwood/dp/B0007MW2ZW/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1464852677&sr=8-2&keywords=shaving+cream

Pick up a sample pack of blades too too see which ones you prefer, I tend to use feather blades.

This guide might help you with shaving. Personally I tend to skip the across the grain part to save time but that doesn't mean its the best way to do it.

Your hair from the first picture is glorious. Seriously, it's fantastic. The length and volume you have on top in that picture is what I'd go for, but with buzzed sides and have the sides blended into the top.

https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/67/590x/Ox-776875.jpg

(^ Obviously, he has African-American hair, but I used the pic more as an example of the faded sides and how it's blended to the top.)

As far as products - if you're not using it already, argan oil is a must for curly hair, as it helps keep frizz and dryness to a minimum. I use the oil as a prestyler, and then Rusk flexible styling creme as the main product (https://www.amazon.ca/Rusk-Wired-Flexible-Styling-Creme/dp/B000ULPFP4).

u/smitty22 · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Here's my routine.

What people don't tell you about wet shaving is that the real trick is in the Prep'... While I did disrespect the "Multi-Blade Cartridge Razors"; if you're just starting out they can be alright; but you can get a starter Double Edged Safety Razor for the price of a Gillette, and you'll be able to get replacement blades for .50 apeice. Disclaimer: I am a Jatai Feather fanboy.

The main thing to facilitate hair cutting is well hydrated hair, and the best thing for that is not to use anything that comes out of a pressurized can.

The chemicals used as propellants are drying agents and they use lubricants to make up for that... The problem being that the hairs themselves need to be wet to cut well. I've had both my father and a buddy of mine get better shaves just by using an oil and applying their regular canned cream over it - which is there more to keep the oil and cut hair from sticking to the blade than it is to facilitate the shave, IMHO

It might not fit your needs exactly, but I've been using the Norelco 7300 for over 2 years now and have really enjoyed it It holds a charge ridiculously well, and the vacuum feature is great for cleanup.

The reason I suggest it for travel is because it holds a charge so well. I use it 2-3 times a week and have probably charged it less than 10 times over those 2 years. This is only the second trimmer I've had, though, so that could be standard and I wouldn't know it.

u/openthemic · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I had this one for a couple of years. It does...okay. I did like the shaving attachment, but I tend to be a hairy guy, and it would take a while to get the job done.

I have this one now, and I love it: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-Multigroom-QG3390-Packaging/dp/B00TYSRAJS/ref=sr_1_16_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1462766062&sr=1-16&keywords=norelco+bodygroom

u/Brutally-Honest- · 3 pointsr/malegrooming

I would definitely recommend starting off with a shavette. Blade maintenance is a non-issue as you just replace the blade after every shave. Something like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Parker-Professional-Stainless-Straight-Razor/dp/B01D8SFFVO/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1527399655&sr=8-2&keywords=shavettes#customerReviews)

I'm a starter too, so here is my routine. Though try stuff out and see what works for you.

To my understanding, the most important thing is to wash your face twice and moisturize twice a day.

I wore shirt stays while at VMI. Originally, I used the ones that attached from your shirt to your sock.

I eventually moved to this style, which I still wear daily to keep my dress shirts neatly tucked. I've never personally had a problem with my socks going down, and the stirrup version is more convenient if that isn't an issue for you, and you just want your shirt tucked.

Depending on his beard, if he actually wants a real beard and not just the slightly longer stubble that some consider a beard he will either need to be good with scissors or will need a clipper set. I personally have been using this set for 3+ years

Yeah, I guess so.
I own this one which is similar to the one our linked to. I've had some problems where it doesn't cut some hairs all the way, so the end of the hair is still hanging on and ends up getting kind of annoying.
