A good ol' waterhose is typically plenty to flood out a few gophers here and there. Just post up with a shovel and look for where the water is breaking the surface. Wet gophers can't move so well.

If you are seeing them breach on their own, consider investing in a small spring or pump-action pellet rifle - .177 or .22 should do you just fine for gophers and you should be nearly silent.

If you can modify the can then get one of those old can openers with the pointy end. When the time starts pop the top of the claw like normal and then use that to put a vent on the far side of the top from the normal opening.

Would also recommend trimming, almost exclusively. I rarely use a razor at all, except for a little fine tuning. Benefits of trimming vs. a razor include not looking like a little boy, not having to worry about razor burn or ingrown hairs, and there's a margin of error which is nice to have when handling sharp objects around your junk. My opinion is that instead one should give them room, breathe, remind oneself that the negative thoughts aren't helpful and let them leave of their own accord. To each their own.
