honestly it depends on whether or not you want to put your phone in a protective case. I have mine in the Seidio case (which is amazing BTW) but like most other otterbox style cases that use the rubber sleeve which wraps around the front edge to protect the screen, the screen protectors that go all the way to the edge of the screen will tend to contact the rubber edge of the protective sleeve resulting in the screen protector getting lifted off the front surface of the phone.

I've had this happen with both the skinomi and the realook protectors. After reading that several others were having this problem with various cases, I read that several guys had success with this protector by Rearth and I can happily say it works great as it's just a hair narrower on the screen.

It also feels nice too. It's nice and smooth unlike the rubbery skinomi.

bought some RHA MA350's off Amazon for my nexus 4, they have been great. they failed after 1 year, loose connection one ear. but they have a 3 year warranty. fast and efficient turnaround from RHA, new pair within a week. well impressed. plus the new pair has a right angled jack, which i prefer.

have previously used sennheiser cx range, they were good but broke too quickly. most in ears break within a year. the 3 year warranty, and fantastic service from RHA make it an excellent deal.

they are £29.95, but if they only last a year, and you get a replacement pair free, then the long term cost is more viable. they have a clear, uncoloured sound, not bass heavy. no media controls.

I just got the Flex! Totally loving it and it easily has increased my desire to workout more or just be more active.

Glad that I can still sync to my computer through the USB dongle and have the app on the N4 update as well.

Amazon link for those interested: Fitbit Flex

Get the Zagg Invisible Shield. Every single device I have owned from iPads to Nintendo DSi's, I have had a Zagg and they are THE BEST! They feel great on the screen and protect it VERY well.

Don't buy it from their website, get it from Amazon for like $10 less.

I've had great luck with JBuds. They're pretty cheap, sound good, and their customer service is excellent.

Here's one with a mic for under 20.

I did this replacement on mine and it fixed my charging issue. As stated it's a little tricky to get the case apart but the rest of the replacement is actually quite easy. just be careful when taking the case apart. Look at the guides to see where the pop switch things are and use a plastic tool so you don't damage anything. I ended up using the plastic repair tool that looks like a guitar pic (it probably is a guitar pic) to take it apart and it went just fine. You'll also need a tiny torque screwdriver to get the bottom screws out. If you don't already have the tools you can get them super cheap on amazon.

Great explanation, thank you so much !

I've ordered a new battery, will replace and report back.

I'll be thrilled if that solves the problem - I really love my N4, it's fast enough for what I do, just the right form factor, and software support (via Google until M and now via custom roms) is hard to beat.

Thanks again (including /u/tiikerikani and /u/alfonsojon who also suggested a new battery)

edit: if I plug in my external battery while I wait for my new battery to arrive, would that sidestep the problem ? (something similar to this http://www.amazon.ca/KUKOME-2600mAh-External-Battery-Charger/dp/B00KL4LO8W )

I had Bose in-ear headphones and these sound much, much better. They have surprisingly rich bass. Out of all the in-ear headphones I have owned, the S4A have the best sound. I'd give them a solid 9-of-10.

I bought some foam eartips off Amazon, and with the foam tips I cannot hear anything except what's playing through the headphones. Mowing the lawn, even on an airplane, I can only hear what I am listening to. The sound isolation of the foam tips makes everything sound much better than with the stock plastic tips.

Get yourself a pair of [these] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004NRNMII/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_at_ws_gb?ie=UTF8 ), and put the extra towards a pint. I'll have a Peroni, please ;)

In all seriousness, probably the best headphones I've ever owned. Comfy as anything, anti-tangle, and brilliant sound. Well worth a look

Holy christ you really destroyed the scree! Nice work :-) I just installed a very similar part yesterday and it's been working fine. One of the screws holding down the battery cable was super tight and I came close to stripping it out. Also when I reassembled it seems like I didn't have one end of the antenna coax cable tight, so the bars would drop to zero and the phone would red-light-shutdown.

This video was the most helpful of the few that I found on YouTube. I would also recommend getting a very small flathead screwdriver which will assist in unlatching some of the clips/cables.

u/axnjackson11 · 2 pointsr/nexus4

This is the setup he's talking about but I've never used it and I don't like how clunky it seems to be, how it's a windshield mount and cannot be used with a case.

This is what I use. Amazon Basics 2.1 Amp Charger with this Mediabridge Coiled USB cable and this InfiniApps Slyde CD Slot Mount.

It's a great setup, that charges quickly. The charger and cable allow for AC power to the phone so it'll charge just as fast as if you were plugged into a wall outlet. Also, the mount is really simple and holds the phone steady with a magnet (you put a piece of metal, which is provided, in your case or stuck to the back of the phone).

I hope these links were useful.

awesome, let me know how it goes. Do you have a tripod too? I'm a fan of the small ones that attach to anything, picked up this one recently. works great with no case on, I can test with a tpu case if you are interested.

u/jbiz · 1 pointr/nexus4

Yeah, I bought one of these. It definitely helps, but it has no on/off switch. It uses a AAA battery and turns on as soon as you plug in something to the headphone-out. If you leave it plugged in (like in your car), the battery will die pretty fast.

There's probably other amps out there that are better, but the price is good on this one.

edit: found this one that recharges via (argh) Micro-USB. Luckily I have a dual-USB port cigarette lighter charger in the car.

Here is the screen protector I ordered for my Nexus 4 and my wife's. We both have the diztronic case and really like this screen protector. We hadn't used a screen protector for the longest time, but I was noticing some super tiny scratches from the phone being in my pocket and decided we should do something to protect our screens.

u/lord_dumbello · 1 pointr/nexus4

I had exactly this problem with my stock Nexus 4 a few days after I got it. I had bought two of them (one for me and one for my wife). Mine would randomly turn off every few days when left overnight and I would have to hold down the power button 10 seconds or so to get it to turn back on. It did this both on and off the charger. Since we had two of them there were a few other differences that I would not have noticed if I had only had one. For example, the first time we ever turned them on mine took 3-4 times as long to boot up. I did a factory reset and it continued to randomly shut off occasionally. I'm fairly sure this is a hardware problem (since my wife's phone is identical, seriously our IMEI codes vary by 1, and neither of us had installed too much yet). Since I was still in the 15-day window for exchanges I decided to return it.

The whole process was super easy and painless. I called Google Play support and it took basically 5 min. They said that since I had already tried a factory reset and it was still happening that they would immediately replace it. They mail you out a new one (with a hold on your credit card for the new device). Once you get the new one you swap our your SIM card and mail the old one back using a pre-paid label from Google. When they get the old one they remove the hold on your credit card.

I'm very glad that I did this. The new phone hasn't had any problems so far and hasn't turned off randomly yet. It's hard to tell but it also seems somewhat faster booting up. I highly recommend you RMA it. It may seem like a minor (although annoying) problem but if it is a hardware problem (which I think it is) then it may cause more problems further down the road. Imagine if you DON'T exchange it now and in 6 months it starts having more serious problems?

It sucks about the screen protector. Luckily for me I had a [Skinomi](http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B009W6C3YO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369153104&sr=8-1&keywords=nexus+4+Skinomi] wet application one (which I highly recommend by the way) which can be easily removed and re-applied.

Try a new battery. Cost me less than $20 on ebay. I had all kinds of shutdown problems and a new battery fixed them. Tho I still do have the camera flash crashes the whole damn phone. I added the Camera 365 app a couple of weeks ago and use that as my main camera and it hasn't crashed yet.

While I was waiting on my new battery to arrive, I kept my phone plugged into one of those portable external USB charger/battery things. It was clunky to carry around, but it helped with the crashes until I got the new battery and installed it.

Good luck!

Here, reviews look pretty good for it

I've been using the Rearth Screen Protector for a couple of weeks now. It has the oleophobic coating. This one from Amazon comes with two front protectors and one back protector. So, when the one I have now on the front loses its coating, I can replace it with the second one.

The screen protector is quite nice at reducing visible finger oil on the screen, but I do have to swipe differently on the keyboard because of the screen protector. Overall, though I am satisfied with the purchase.

u/ThinkBEFOREUPost · 3 pointsr/nexus4

I do not know, but you can purchase this and install it fairly easily if you worried. It might help depending upon the accuracy of the OEM:

Love the Qi charger, totally worth it IMO. However, I'll go against the crowd on cheap ones... the one I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/UPGRADED-Wireless-Charging-Blackberry-Qi-Enabled/dp/B00C40OG22 and the damn thing phantom touches almost every time I put it on the charger. At least it is only initially, so I have to watch it for a few seconds to see where it goes, if it goes anywhere.

None of my N4 orbs have that issue.

u/withoutapaddle · 1 pointr/nexus4

I use this one: http://amzn.com/B00C40OG22

It's kind of a middle ground between super cheap crap and official chargers. Works well, and looks stylish.

u/unerds · 1 pointr/nexus4

can't comment on that one in particular, but i use a poetic slimbook it's probably a bit bulkier by default.

but it allows me to carry my license, debit and visa with me, the latch holds it just fine... though the cards do make it thicker, it's allowed me to combine my wallet and phone...

i end up keeping a secondary wallet in my car with whatever other random cards (library, costco, healthcare, etc.)

regardless of all that, i like it.

u/HerpityDerpyDerp · 1 pointr/nexus4

There's also the Seidio Convert case, which is significantly more bulky but also $50. They basically took a Seidio Surface case and added a layer of shock-absorbing silicone then a plastic exoskeleton to hold the silicone on. I would HIGHLY recommend it if you have the money.

It also comes with a belt holder that you can remove the small clip from to basically add protection on the front if you're extra paranoid and a screen protector.

u/Suave92 · 2 pointsr/nexus4

This is the closest I found. I just got the case in myself and it is really nice i didn't get the belt clip with it though. link

u/indrora · 2 pointsr/nexus4

I'd totally learn how to remove the back so you can get a fresh back glass. Amazon sells them relatively cheaply.

u/Raider1284 · 2 pointsr/nexus4

true true. It does require an external power source, since the phone physically cant provide it. But I could see someone making a controller holder that could hold a battery pack, that would snap onto your phone, while also holding the controller.

They do make some very small, portable power packs. like this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005X1Y7I2/

For example you could buy this: http://buy.thegameklip.com/products/gameklip-casemount and then attach that battery pack to the back of that game controller klip. Not super elegant, but it would work.

u/iamnerd · 1 pointr/nexus4

I'm using a Skinomi protector right now. I used them on my previous phones as well. I haven't noticed that they distort the image quality. Doesn't feel as nice as the bare glass but it's not bad.

Similar to a Zagg protector but without the orange peel texture.

$8.95 on Amazon.com for the front only protector and $15.95 for the full protector.

u/Wobi · 1 pointr/nexus4

Been using this screen protector with a case and it fits just fine.

u/huffalump1 · 1 pointr/nexus4

Here's the cheap one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L4MF8XC/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_z3Prub1DMVER6

Taking forever to ship though. I might get it by thanksgiving...

This is allegedly the only OEM one available. Shipping is $18 but it's less than a week: http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-lg-nexus-4-e960-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/nexus4

There are battery cases that do exactly this coming out shortly by zero lemon and mugen.

If you can't wait try this.

u/hartleyshc · 1 pointr/nexus4

I ordered this one about a month or so ago from Amazon. Rounded edges and 10 points. The diffuser sucks, but is not a deal breaker. It doesnt have the nice fade the original does. It is gorilla glass. Been in my pocket everyday, no scratches. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L4MF8XC/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_OR2gub13JZ9AY
