I am selling a few electronic items that are in like new condition for good prices.

I've got:

  • A Model YHT-497 Yamaha 5.1 Channel Home Theater in a Box System. Comparable model new for $430, selling for $350. 100W per channel and the sub has a satisfying kick, discrete receiver, sub, and speakers so they can be upgraded separately down the road. Comes with a decent roll of cheap speaker cable.

  • An ARRIS/Motorola SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, Model SB6121. New for $69, selling for $50. This has a three star certification for use with XFINITY internet services which is the highest and most thorough level of testing they do.

  • A Netgear Wireless Router w/ Dual Band Gigabit, Model R6300-100NAS. New for $150, selling for $120. This thing's just fucking great. I've never had any complaints about Comcast's service, and I think this guy (recently paired with the SURFboard) is the main guy to thank for that. I think I've had to reset it maybe once or twice ever.

  • Official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset w/ USB Wireless Receiver, Model CECHYA-0080. New for $100, selling for $75. These are big bulky headphones with a microphone attached. Nice sound quality, though I'm sure audiophiles would disagree.

  • Monoprice speaker stands, set of 2. New for $15-20, selling for $10. These things are flimsy but they'll hold your small speakers off the ground just the same.

Now, you're probably wondering why I'm willing to part for such like new items at such discounts. The reason is that there was a fire a month and a half ago in my old building and these were affected by the humidity and/or smoke to varying degrees. But they're all back from the Electronics Restoration Service, who tested, restored, cleaned, and deoderized each individual component before testing them again to ensure proper function. I then tested each item when I resumed possession of them.

But, because of a gap in communication between the ERS guys and my insurance claim rep, getting these things back took over a month, and in the meantime I had replaced my sound system and internet devices. I'd hoped to be able to return them within the Best Buy returns timeframe but things dragged on too long. The speaker stands I don't need because in my new place I've mounted my rear speakers on the walls. The PS3 headset I don't need because my PS3 didn't make it through the ordeal. The 360 below it and the TV above it did, though, and both work fine as a testament to these guy's abilities.

Related to that I guess I also have a couple other things for sale:

  • A slew of PS3 games. No PS3 anymore and I'm not sure I'll replace it so these are for sale. All barely affected by the incident but still individually cleaned by the guys at ERS. Let me know if you're interested in something and I'll figure a price.

  • 2 PS3 Controllers, one black and one white. Note that they did not try to restore or clean these at all since the system was shot. You can test them and we can figure out a fair price if you're interested.

So yeah. Like new, restored items for good prices. Who's interested?

How far along are you?

It's going to be a tight fit, since the Pac-Man cabinet comes down to the sides of the control panel, and it isn't as wide as some dedicated two-player games. One joystick with a six button setup will fit pretty easily, though.

The control panel is metal. If you don't mind drilling the holes yourself, you can get a replacement blank for about $25. You might be able to build something from MDF, but metal is going to fit better and look nicer. You can also get replacement vinyl overlays for the control panel when you're done to give it a clean look.

When I redid my Street Fighter III cabinet last year, I used this kit from Amazon. It has two bat joysticks and 14 buttons, in standard SF colors. If you'd rather keep the red ball-top joysticks for authenticity, I think they have a kit with them as well.

Pac-Man isn't a JAMMA cabinet, so you're going to need an adapter before you can put a Multicade board on it.

If you don't have a board for it yet, Pandora's Box is a pretty good JAMMA Multicade with about a thousand games on it.

Of course, if you decide to scrap the whole thing and build a new cabinet out of MDF that has all the bells and whistles you want, I'd be happy to pick your cabinet up and turn it back into a Pac-Man... :)

Free- Inversion table.

basically this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G03HY4G/ref=s9_top_hd_bw_bEIgX_g200_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-2&pf_rd_r=0QTHW8Q0KKKHMCKN1TSJ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=90238f55-9ad2-4142-a0e5-10dd9b2effb9&pf_rd_i=3408421

I'm getting a Pilates rig and I can't really justifying fitting both in my apt. plus I installed a bar and gravity boots to deal with my back issues so I can still hang upside down. But if you are not used to gravity boots it's really easy to get stuck, so inversion tables are great if you sit at a desk all day, you can tether it to control how far back it goes or release the tether and just hang upside down, so for people not comfortable with stuff like this, it's really safe and easy, also its in immaculate shape. I'm little so no structural stress issues. I think it goes up to 300 lbs? the link has the specs.

All you have to do is PM me a time to pick up and have fun lugging it down a 3 story walk up.

But it really does work great, I'm just switching it up and will take my chances being stuck hanging upside down from a bar, I'll put my cell phone in reach.

EDIT: It's been claimed by a lovely sporty couple who I'm sure will get a ton of use out of it, all is well that ends well! thanks all for the interest!

Former REI guy, so I'm biased, but I think it's the best selection to check out and a really knowledgeable staff. We had 3 or 4 of us who had completed through-hikes of the AT working there, at the same time. Was hard to beat that level of experience. Also like Walkabout in Carytown.

I'd recommend trying out things and working on specs for what you'll carry rather than identifying a specific pack or other gear from a specific company. Once you narrow in on your specs, the right gear will become a little easier to identify. Going into the store would be a great opportunity to talk to people with experience and soak up what you can.

Good resources include the Awol's AT Guide (which I think is also available in a southbound edition), the Appalachian Trail Data Book, and The Complete Walker IV, which is kind of the granddaddy of hiking guides.

BUY: bar stool (30" height).. one of the simple all metal ones preferred, need it to be sturdy. ~$15. I can get one of these delivered for $41, but I don't like buying new if I don't have to.

BUY: homebrew equipment. Giving up the hobby? Got some spare stuff? Happy to buy if you have it. I'd like to do some very small batch stuff (mead and sauerkraut) , so any 1 gallon glass jars/jugs would be great, air locks, etc. Anything bigger, still happy to buy too.

BUY: Raspberry Pi 3s - as many as ya got!

Thanks ya'll!

I used to have a concession business.

From what you described you don't need a truck yet. If I were you I would buy a good-quality 10'x10' pop-up tent, get a really nice, large, clear sign (maybe 2' high by 10' wide), poles to mount it on, and 3 good quality plastic tables with nice skirts to use as counters (try to get tables that are fairly tall).

Then, I would make inexpensive snacks that you can dress up on-site. Like say you wanted to bake cookies, you could use them to make "cookie sundaes" or something onsite. People at special events want interesting junk food that makes them impulsively buy it ("hey, you can't get that every day! let's grab one!") so if you take a normal product and add some unusual flair to it, it sells way better. Same with drinks, make lemonade with soda water and it's "sparkling lemonade".

The main thing is, do a couple events that look like they have good attendance and don't charge too much to get into, because you need to get a feel for how other vendors operate and which events and items make sense for you. Consider the first 10 events as "research" before you drop any serious money into your setup.

I would actually suggest this book because it covers a lot of the basics really well.

The crucial difference is compelling businesses to do this, rather than them making the decision freely. I've worked in employee-owned businesses and it was not particularly different than publicly traded employers. Privately traded securities can be easily manipulated in price as well because there is no market. It's also very bad asset allocation to have any significant amount of your net worth attached to your employer. If (and when) they go belly up, you're out of a job and out of a huge chunk of your net worth.

Anyone can freely invest in companies right now for free. Vanguard's index ETFs have zero commission and exceptionally low expenses. These things can all be easily automated with very low investment minimums.

Soviet socialism has indeed destroyed numerous countries and has been responsible for the deaths of millions. Very good first-hand account of what it's like to live under such a totalitarian regime.

Additionally, employees have no ethical claim or entitlement to ownership of the organizations they work for. Entrepreneurs take all the risk in starting businesses and can rightfully reap the reward. Most of them fail and lose everything. Employees take zero risk because they are paid for their time and can walk any time they like.

If you want to start a co-op, that's great. You have every right to do so. This is a free country. And if it's actually better, as the socialists claim, then you won't fail.

If you want to force others to turn over their business, that's where we have a problem.

As a business owner myself, I have taken all of the risk. All of my employees and contractors have been fairly compensated for their time. They were not compelled to work for me and made the decision of their own free will. I invested years and tens of thousands of dollars to build this business, taking all the risk along the way. None of my employees took a lick of risk because they were all compensated for their time. Now the DSA wants me and other entrepreneurs to take all the risk and then give away the reward when we succeed.

Yo /u/drycounty, next selection is Bohemian Love Diaries: A Memoir by Slash Coleman.

> Infused with southern charm, this irresistibly weird and wonderful story chronicles Slash Coleman’s upbringing in a warped but warm-hearted household of eccentric artists. Descended from a posse of off-beat immigrants--including a grandfather who danced at the Moulin Rouge--and raised near the capital of the Confederacy during the 1970s and ’80s, young Slash sets out to find true love. Unfortunately, he’s his own worst enemy. Obsessions with Evel Knievel, rock band KISS, and crisscrossing the country to find the girl of his dreams set his quest for happiness on a hapless course.

>Hilarious and profound, Coleman slowly comes to terms with his father, a genius sculptor and volatile alcoholic, and his mother, a Holocaust survivor who makes him promise never to reveal that he’s Jewish. A touching portrait emerges of a young artist whose passionate spirit refuses to be suppressed. A swift kick to the funny bone, The Bohemian Love Diaries and its laugh-out-loud perversity conjure Jonathan Ames and Augusten Burroughs with a tender edge, revealing what might have happened if John Hodgman raised Holden Caulfield in Chuck Palahniuk’s attic. It will leave you howling.

This happens to me too. My wax build up is out of control. The doctor also told me not to use Q-tips anymore because it just makes things worse.

I go to patient first. Not sure how much they charge without insurance but I pay about a $20 co pay and I feel like a million bucks after they clean it all out.

Also, as people were mentioning, you can buy the device they use off of amazon for about $30~. Drop some peroxide in there first. Let it sit. Then use the device with warm water.

Maybe worth you to buy it and do the process yourself since you said you need to go twice a year.

I should probably go that much myself, honestly. It has been about 2 years I think since I have had them cleaned out. I just stopped using Q-tips and it avoids the wax from getting impacted but I have noticed lately that my hearing is becoming muffled and it feels like I have a lot of wax buildup. Probably will stop by Patient First here soon!

Edit: Here is the device on amazon! https://www.amazon.com/Elephant-Washer-Bottle-Doctor-Easy/dp/B005M2B5P0 best of luck!

Could you get one of these Zunes? My husband uses one of those to record jazz gigs he plays and stuff. The quality is nice. then, using an interface like Garageband, you could edit and create your podcast. Maybe?

Also, have you approached WDCE or WRIR about this? It sounds like a good idea for a local radio show! I used to DJ at WDCE and loved it. They are so nice there. If you contact them I bet they would be interested. They would train you. Then you would have 1st class equipment and I believe there is software you can get on your computer to record your broadcasts.

Also /u/thisisATHENS, I'd recommend taking a look at Rise of the Warrior Cop - https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00B3M3UFQ/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 - written by a libertarian dude, so it's not some left-wing look at the police, but it is a fairly comprehensive look at the history of policing in America as well as the rise in militarization and tactics (as well as why those don't work). I certainly don't take it as gospel but it is well researched, well written, and hopefully something that both right and left folks can agree is an issue that should be addressed.

I got a pretty great taillight for about $25 dollars. Super bright and noticeable. I'd love to buy a bunch in bulk and give them to people who I see riding without a taillight.

EDIT: Here's a link for anyone in the market.

Finally ordered a Richmond flag for my house. I ended up purchasing through the Library of Virginia since it looked like the best quality, but since I have Amazon Prime I had to take a look at the options I had on there.

Turns out that our flag does not translate to patch form very well.

Edit: I also noticed that the Boy Scouts were out selling popcorn at Lowes. Since I was in Boy Scouts at one point, on one hand I feel like maybe I ought to purchase some because I know how few people actually buy the stuff and on the other hand I wonder if maybe the difficulties in selling popcorn helped me grow into the person I am today.

In the case of Fulton, people were paid to sell their buildings (and many resisted the sales, and even sued in the courts against the demolition.) but the properties weren't just taken away. The people selling made a choice to sell their real estate and move elsewhere. For impoverished people, receiving a sum for a house that, in some cases, had no heat or running water was probably a windfall.

A great book on early Fulton is The World of Patience Gromes, that deals with this subject specifically.

Selden Richardson's, Built by Blacks is also a great resource regarding Richmonds' African American communites and the architecture that developed in those places.

Also, some great history and images of Old Fulton can be found here:
