Features:
Yeah no shit. And 2ms is nothing dude. You gain widescreen with progressive output. And it does matter if you could use a working 144hz display because you have to take in account frame transmission.
For every 60hz display, you'll have 16.67ms frame transmission to display that frame. If you have a 144hz display, you will have only 7ms of frame transmission. So even if you add the lag of 2ms from input processing, it's still less than 10ms overall to display each full frame. By the way, CRTs do have input lag and it's not 0ms. The input lag from a CRT is like 670 nanoseconds or 0.00067ms (which is super negligible, but it's worth mentioning for sake of discussion).
How do you think other games are played dude? You think everyone uses a CRT? No, because 2ms is negligible - especially considering the GameCube's native send rate is 6ms. Obviously, for 60hz displays, CRT is the best for input lag, but 2ms is not going to matter. Human reaction time averages around 200ms. And there is not usually scenarios that come up that rely on a direct reaction. Even with a powershield, you're visually watching the projectile coming at you and can time when you're going to press the button.
The future will probably be on Dolphin with 144hz displays with adapters that have 1ms refresh rate/polling rates. It's possible there to have full RGB 4:4:4 widescreen progressive output with the ability to scale to HD resolutions with anti-aliasing. If the way the Raphnet adapter syncs it's polling rate to it's refresh/send rate holds true, then it's possible to have 1ms of adapter lag only instead of 6ms if you overclock your USB ports polling rate to 1000hz. That already beats a GameCube + CRT (22.67ms vs 9.95ms). Now if you take into account the graphics cards getting better and better, the GPU time will diminish as well. Also Dolphin efficiency will keep improving as well.
But that's all theoretical. Right now, the best way to play IMO (if you make considerations for progressive and widescreen output), is to get a Wii with GameCube inputs, a Sewell Wii to HDMI Converter, and a BenQ Gaming Monitor with Nintendont and the 20XX pack. If you only care about Input Lag, yeah "technically" a CRT + GameCube/Wii is better by 2ms because 144hz displays aren't working correctly with consoles. So like I said, for 60hz displays, CRTs win by a very negligible amount but you give up having progressive widescreen output. And yes I know they have made a few progressive 16:9 CRTs but they are extremely rare and it's not full RGB 4:4:4 (HDMI > VGA or Component).
Overall, my point is that Melee HD with a Gaming Monitor is completely competitively viable and you claimed above "display lag is a downside" - as if it is not a viable option. The problem isn't the 2ms of display lag - the problem was the adapters/converters. Before the Wii, to convert 480p progressive component analog, it took too much time. Like over a frame in a lot of cases. It just so happened that with the Wii, people were able to create an HDMI output. Nearly all communities stopped using CRTs a long time ago. (Although Speedrunners use CRTs for the same issue. Because it's more cost effective and consoles don't support 144hz output). But again, how do you think other gamers (who aren't limited from old-analog-only-consoles) are playing?
They're playing on Gaming Monitors.

Fellow broke college TO here. My weeklies average around 15 too so i feel like we're in a similar situation. My venue doesn't have good enough internet in the basement to stream to Twitch, so we only record and upload to youtube.
For my laptop, I use a pretty ok, free laptop my college gave me. You don't need anything fancy if you're not streaming.
I use this as a capture card, I got it on sale for like $15. It's far from the best but it really gets the job done and serves its purpose.
http://www.microcenter.com/product/315700/USB_20_Video_and_Audio_Capture_Device
I've also had one of my players recommend me this capture card. I've never used it but I hear it's cheap and it's good.
https://www.amazon.com/I-connection-video-capture-GV-USB2/dp/B00428BF1Y
For the player cam, I use a used camera on got on sale for $11. Once again, it's not great. But it gets the job done on a budget.
For the actual stream layout I found free overlays online, and my homie who's good with photoshop hooked us up with a logo for free.
If you wanna see what we're working with, how it looks, and what the quality looks like here's our Youtube channel.

If you have any questions just hit me up. I'd love to help another little local scene like mine grow!
Don't buy a new controller, clean/ fix your existing one. It will cost a lot less (~15$) and you will be able to clean/fix all of your other controllers as well. May sound weird because I'm telling you to fix your existing one but don't buy replacement joysticks... the rubber will just fall off on those too... =[ Ive wasted some $ on shitty "replacement" joysticks that don't even last a day. Buy 1 pack of these [ **.com/Cyber-%E3%83%BBPremium-Slide-Cover-Clear-Black/dp/B00UURTXK6/ref=sr_1_1?s=instant-video&ie=UTF8&qid=1479033751&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+circle+pad+cover ] and glue it to your joystick. I used an epoxy resin because i figured it would do the best gluing plastic on plastic but super glue would probably work too. You should still buy a tri-wing screwdriver [ ***.com/Gen-Lite-Tri-Wing-Triwing-Screwdriver-Tool/dp/B000VPBYS6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479034061&sr=8-1&keywords=triwing+screwdriver ] and some wet-wipes to get inside the controller and clean up a bit. Mine works like brand new but even better because the joystick will never wear down. I'll never part with my original orange GC controller >.<
I guess the moderators dont want people posting links so they deleted my original post... lol anyways just replace "****" with "https://www.amazon" if you want to see those items
If you require a Gamecube controller soon, and do not already have an adapter, I highly recommend the HORI HORI Battle Pad Turbo. It includes a turbo function, ZL and ZR buttons, as well has a Home button and -/+ buttons. The triggers are different from the regular one, but they are still great. It feels the exact same to hold as a regular GCC. They instead hook up to a Wiimote, and are wireless through that. I almost never tell people to buy third party controllers, but for this scenario, I think they are very amazing for only $25.
They are not hard to find at retailers, but for online they appear to be the second best thing, so get them quick, they are running out fast.
(Also comes in Luigi Version)
I have the 23" monitor that was used at Apex 2015/CEO 2015/MLG Aneheim 2015 and I'm sure many other Smash Wii U tournaments.
The ASUS VH238H
It's the tournament standard monitor for Smash 4, has great colors, built-in speakers, and is input lag-free. I HIGHLY recommend it.
Went to Tipped Off 11 last month, ZeRo and many other top players were happily playing on it! :D
EDIT: As /u/Nico_is_not_a_god has pointed out, the Sewell HDMI is the best adapter out there, and makes playing Melee/Brawl/PM in 480p a breeze! (With 20XX/TE, you can play Melee in widescreen also! It's fantastic.)
> Is there a good controller with the layout of a pro but the joystick of a GC?
The Wii Classic Pro controller is the best controller design ever IMO. It has GC joysticks on the bottom, a good D-pad, and the face buttons feel great.
Unfortunately, it's one of the ones that awkwardly plugs into the Wii remote. If it was a standalone like the Wii U Pro controller it would be amazing.
Didn’t realize you needed 4 controllers. I’m that case, I agree 4 Gamecube may be the way to go.
Another possibility is to get some single Joy-Con grips (https://www.amazon.com/FASTSNAIL-Nintendo-Switch-Wear-resistant-Controller/dp/B06XZ1PCKK)
You would need to get another set of Joy-Cons, it it’s always nice to have more and it’s good for Super Mario Party as well (which I would recommend if you have friends to play it with.)
Refurbished Wii Us from Nintendo are $200 last I remember, but it looks like they're currently out of stock: https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?productId=prod150200
As for the game + GC adapater + controller, it might be best to get the bundle ($100). Looks like Amazon is currently out of stock too, but other places might have it available: http://www.amazon.com/Super-Smash-Bros-Bundle-Wii-nintendo/dp/B00M35YLLY
You could keep an eye on /r/GameDeals/ and /r/wiiu/ as well, or wait for black Friday deals. Maybe a Smash bros wii u bundle will be announced. I would expect that at some point Nintendo will have refurbished consoles back in stock. Maybe that helps.
got a 4 gc controller + adapter + extension chords, all for $55 lol. They work great too, not like top-level competitive viable probably but i pull off some frame tight combos with em no issues, and can now play smash / mk with big groups of friends without having to spend a fortune on controllers. If any of the controllers come with issues theyll send a replacement pretty fast too. Heres the link if interested: (seems like they pushed the price up $5 now) https://www.amazon.com/Controllers-Extension-Cables-4-Port-Adapter-Set/dp/B07MSHR6JJ
I’ve also been having corruption issues with smash ultimate and is using the card from that amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MicroSDXC-Adapter-MB-ME256GA-AM/dp/B072HRDM55/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549551154&sr=8-3&keywords=samsung+256gb+micro+sd+card
Smash seems to be the only game that I’ve been having problems with and it also only started happening after the new DLC character. The first time it happened while I was loading Spirit Board. The second time was after playing a couple of Smash Mode games with a CPU, and the next day I just starting the game back up and it was corrupted... Then it happened while playing Classic Mode with Richter. And today it happened twice while playing online. So, I’ve reinstalled my game 5 times so far. And it doesn’t seem like anything I do is safe. I’m going to try switching SD cards to see if it will make a difference.
So random data for the record:
I’ve only played one other game on my Switch since this corruption started happening and that game is Dragon Quest Builders.
Update: I got a new SanDisk 128GB from Best Buy yesterday. Loaded it into my Switch for initial formatting and then copied the files from my old MicroSD card to my new one--overriding everything. The game play was smooth for that night. I played 3 hours with no corruption. However, this morning, I got the corruption notice after about 15 minutes of game play. This time it was after an online match against Lucina while playing as Donkey Kong. No common case of issue from my experiences. Going to see if I will get a corruption error again tonight.
I've dealt with corrupted data but have been able to recover my save each time after redownloading.
1) The day it happened - 3 times on 1/29 (day of 7.0 update and 2.0 patch) and once on 2/3
2) How many times it has happened. - 4 times total
3) What mode/character you were playing as.
1st time - Went to start classic mode with Piranha Plant and it crashed
2nd - As the game was booting up
3rd - After running a corruption test after redownloading
4th (5 days later) - while waiting in online quickplay lobby as Palutena. Had already played 10-15 matches
4) How much you completed in the game. (Classic Mode runs/Mob Smash runs/ Adventure Mode/ Spirits Collected/ specificity challenges completed/not completed etc.) - about 25% of classic runs, no mob smash runs, WoL 100% completed, about 800 spirits collected
5) If you own a physical or digital version. - Digital
6) In the case of the latter, if the game was saved to System Memory or an SD card. - So here's the weird part. It was installed on system memory since I've had the game installed pre-ordered. It reinstalled on my SD card for instances 2, 3, and 4 because I had plenty of space available and automatically installs there if there is space. After the final corruption instance this past Sunday, I made sure it installed to the system memory. Have had no issues since but have only played about an hour yesterday.
7) The model and storage size of the SD card in your Switch. - The rumored problematic Samsung EVO 256 GB one. I'm one of the comments you can see in the GameXPlain video of the reddit post. Link to the card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072HRDM55/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ZeuwCb3PBV7R6
8) Whether you have used more than one SD card for the system. - I used to have a smaller SanDisk Ultra 64 GB one but once I bought the 256 GB one I took everything off the smaller one and moved it to the larger one.
9) The space left on the SD card. - 144 GB
10) Whether or not you were subscribed to the online service. - Yes
Ran a corruption test of my copy of Smash yesterday and it came back clean. Played for about an hour with no issue. Will update this post if it happens again.
EDIT: I've also played Wargroove and Stardew Valley since the initial corrupt crash and both have had no issues.
I own two pro controllers and I love them for Wind Waker, Pikmin, and Tropical Freeze. I'm pretty sure it'll be a great substitute for Gamecube controllers. The color scheme is a bit of an issue, as there currently exist only 2 colors, black and white, and if you want every controller to be different, the only thing you can do (which I highly reccomend) is to take the controllers apart with a fancy nintendo screwdriver and trade the buttons around.
I'd go with this if they are tourney legal. Not sure on it, but my friend bought 4 of these and 4 used original controllers and they are the best I've ever used.
Thanks /u/hankydysplasia. Two questions.
1. Since I already got the HORI adapter which I believe is USB 2.0... Do you believe it is worth it for me to go and buy a USB 3.0 adapter as a replacement? Will it have any noticeable affect on my experience? I like to think I would notice the difference but I'm not sure and you seem like an expert... What say you?
2. HORI says it supports 1000BASE-T... which I was led to believe that means it can support Gigabit... yet since it is USB 2.0 and not 3.0 does this mean that HORI is simply being misleading?
Appreciate you.
Ehh not necessarily. You use an external converter that's dedicated to it to speed up the process and improve the look: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EA7ZUA
And anyway, if you read the comments on the post in my edit, you can see that people have switched to LCDs with good success.
Edit: Also, I'm talking about monitors, not HDTVs, which generally have significantly more lag, but that could have been an unintentional typo
Edit2: The 480i upscaling is also very dependant on the quality of the monitor you're working with. The newer and more expensive, the better the decoding chip generally is. There are again also external decoders that probably work even better.
Just so you know, the RL2455HM can natively handle YPbPr via a breakout cable. Use something like this StarTek breakout adapter and you're all set.
I've also done a hardware mod for native HDMI from the GameCube with success: https://twitter.com/jbvh_/status/641633023750897664
In the end, I prefer the Wii + Component Cables + StarTek adapter. Just significantly easier. The other setups are cool. I enjoy my modded GameCube, but from a practicality standpoint, the Wii is easier to use and software mod.
EDIT: For audio, I usually route it separately, but you can just as easily get an Y-female RCA-> 3.5mm male and route it to the BenQ.
My controller of choice is the Wii Classic Controller Pro. The face buttons can take a bit of getting used to, but the sticks are really nice and have the same octagon gates, it feels good to hold, and the shoulder buttons are worlds better than the GC's shoulder buttons. The GC's shoulder buttons are the sole reason I can never use that controller
edit: this thing https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/videogames/detail-page/B002TLTBN0.01.lg.jpg Not the wii u pro controller
This is the one I'm currently using, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 firsthand it's been great. Super stable and it connects very easily. I can't help you with that particular one you're eying but in general I can say they're an awesome investment.
https://www.amazon.com/Controllers-Extension-Cables-4-Port-Adapter-Set/dp/B07MSHR6JJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=gamecube+controller&qid=1574995147&sprefix=gamecube&sr=8-6
Not official but super dependable and cheap. I got this bundle and they feel exactly like official ones from 2001. Plus it comes with a transparent green one which will make you the prettiest, most popular girl at the Smash tourney.
No clue. Probably because it's a workaround. If you have 35 bucks to drop, I'd highly recommend this card:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00428BF1Y/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=19PXRWYDINS8Q&coliid=I2SHEBGBZQJW43
It's amazing quality, easy with drivers, etc. Works perfectly with OBS once you install the drivers, which there's a tutorial on how to do it in the amazon reviews (it's click a couple boxes, but it's all in Japanese lol).
I use that, with this splitter, and S-video. Here's an example of what it looks like with my setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN9E1OSVgHo
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01KVKMGBE/ref=asc_df_B01KVKMGBE56752019/
You could try something like that. I think it's meant for food and the like, but the Switch should fit and the vent holes can be used to run cables in and out.
Any generic lock box should do the trick, just make sure it's big enough and be prepared to drill holes for cables if it doesn't already have some.
I know you want the bundle today, but amazon has it in stock at the moment and if you have prime you will get it in 2 days. Hope that helps! http://www.amazon.com/Super-Smash-Bros-Bundle-Wii-nintendo/dp/B00M35YLLY/ref=sr_1_1_twi_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416616619&sr=8-1&keywords=supersmash
Honestly I'm a much bigger fan of these that I just got from amazon instead. I don't really trust a $20 controller, and for that price you can pick up two of these. Installation was easy and it's just like playing on a classic N64 controller, but better.
I know you said that you don't want to buy a console but think of this:
You'll get started with Melle for $150. Less if you can buy locally and find things on CL.
Otherwise, if you want to do Melee. Dolphin and Melee with a GC controller and Adapter will be the best for you.
Order a GV-USB2 if you need a capture card for your console. It's $50 and works great.
https://www.amazon.com/I-connection-video-capture-GV-USB2/dp/B00428BF1Y
As for recording Faster Melee, use nVidia ShadowPlay if you can (as it will take frames directly from the GPU and have little-no impact on your CPU) or some sort of software that can screen capture (OBS, Fraps, XSplit, Gameshow, etc)
It's a small investment to be able to help each other. Reviewing sets is huge.
http://www.amazon.com/Gamecube-Replacement-Analog-Yellow-Replaces-Controller/dp/B004H7P0B6
It's pretty easy to do on your own, you just have to open up the controller. You'll need a tri-wing screwdriver (it's on this page in the "also bought" part). Just be a little slow when taking it apart, as the z button Loves to just drop off.
Well I did some quick google searches and found these.
C-Stick and Analog stick parts (though pretty expensive)
More C-Stick and analog parts (Though much cheaper)
Even More Analog Sticks!
Im sure if you search these places a bit you may be able to find some mobo parts and probably buttons and the little rubber things as well.
Another option maybe to obtain even more game cube controllers and just use those as sources for parts
Wii U Pro Controller,
Wii Classic Pro Controller, or the
Wii U Smash Wireless GC Controllers
I highly recommend these three if you can't find the adapter and if you want to be comfortable to play SSB then the three that I mention will do but if you want to use the controllers with other games then I highly recommend the Wii U Pro since the controller is mostly compatible with other games.
I'm not high level enough to comment about specific frame data or anything, but a wired connection is pretty much guaranteed to perform better than a wireless one. If you're worried about financial risk, I've linked a very inexpensive adapter below. It's not first party, but reviews indicate it is compatible with Wii U.
http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Ethernet-Network-Chromebook-Specific/dp/B00484IEJS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421890624&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+ethernet+adapter&pebp=1421890634103&peasin=B00484IEJS
Hope this helps!

GO preorder it!!!
You should consider getting those Joy Con grips that make the single controllers easier to use: https://www.amazon.com/FASTSNAIL-Nintendo-Switch-Wear-resistant-Controller/dp/B06XZ1PCKK/
Use a Battle Pad. It's a
Pro ControllerClassic Controller with the same layout as the Gamecube Controller. It looks awesome and I'm getting one. (I promise I'm not a paid shill.)EDIT: /u/piford brought to my attention that this is actually a Classic Controller. Whoops.
Sure, Regular Wii component cables into one of these types of things (I have the 2 eBay ones, the Amazon link looks way better quality)
eBay 1
eBay 2
Amazon
Worth mentioning there are more designs, such as a Pikachu one, a Lugi one, Link, Metal Mario, DK, Yoshi, Peach, Wario, and Samus. There might more designs, but that's all I found.
Regarding quality, they are officially licensed by Nintendo, so they should be good.
Please note that the official Nintendo Switch LAN uses the ASIX AX88179 chipset, which is basically the best one for the Switch to use and the one you should recommend. I would completely ignore the first LAN adapter you linked to, and primarily suggest the second one you linked to, or this one which is a few cents cheaper.
Username so true.
Would something like this be best? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00484IEJS?psc=1 Seems to have really good reviews and the price is reasonable.
I have had this one since I bought my Wii U. Works perfectly fine.
This is the one that I found recommended on Smash Boards. Bought it and it works great. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00484IEJS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm in Ontario and an employee at EB Games said there will be a bundle of sorts for Smash. I don't know if he knew what he was talking about but we can hope for that. Also on Amazon there is currently the $100 bundle (GC Controller, Wii U adapter, and Smash 4). Here is the link.
Did you know Amazon will donate a portion of every purchase if you shop by going to smile.amazon.com instead? Over $50,000,000 has been raised for charity - all you need to do is change the URL!

Hey, I know this post is from a month ago, but I am currently doing research on setting up my own lagless setup. I was considering getting this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EA7ZUA
I saw it on that article about the setups they used at EVO, would the wii2hdmi adapter be superior in anyway to that?
I used this.
Had it for a year now and worked perfectly fine. Although it may not be available in your country, I'm not sure.
Official Nintendo Adapter you should probably get this one. It's sold by Nintendo, so I'm sure it works great and won't have any problems
According to the link, u/i_am_penis posted Tafo used this one but I'm not sure if it's actually the ideal one.
The Amazon rating doesn't look particularly convincing.
GVUSB2 is generally considered the best price to quality ratio.
From a brief look around it seems like
the ASUS VH238H was used at Apex and BenQ monitors in general seem to be used in esports stuff. Those are probably safe bets.
Edit: Found this listing which is probably vastly more useful in picking one for any fighter. Would maybe suggest just grabbing the lowest lag one from that site.
If you're using a pro-controller/ wired fight pad etc you won't be able to use it in locals/ tournaments because they are usually banned [due to accidental reconnects] as these connect into the wii's controller.
If you're using a gamecube controller [i highly recommend], you need an adaptor. I also suggest you get official game cube controllers, as off-brand/ knock-off ones wear out very quickly.
If you're going to be playing only w/ friends or randoms, you'll require and ethernet-usb adaptor [+ some cat5 cable]. You don't need a nintendo branded one, just get one that supports wii u [not all do]. having a fast wifi hub right next to your wii u is unplayable. you need wired connection.
edit: a review if interested.
If you play Xbox, why not use an xbox controller? If you have a wired 360 or a one 1 just get the magic ns adapter. If you have a wireless, you'll need magic ns plus a dongle. It's what I use, since I'm also used to from it being my pc gaming controller of choice.
here's the link
I haven't had any issues with it. Once I get some more $$ will be buying a one s for wireless play, as I have a wired 360 atm.
Well you have to buy an adaptor. But what it let's you do is connect any controller via Bluetooth. Ps4, Xbox one, and the Wii U pro controller work wireless. I originally bought it to use the wii u pro controller but ended up liking the ps4 controlker more. But if you're wanting to use Xbox 360 or ps3, you connect it with a ubs cable.
Here's a link to the product

First off, you NEED a triwing screwdriver. http://www.amazon.com/Tri-wing-Screwdriver-Nintendo-Gamecube-Gameboy/dp/B000S6AG9G
Second check out /r/customcontrollers, this is a modding sub but they will know where to find replacements, usually you can find them on amazon as well: http://www.amazon.com/Gamecube-Replacement-Analog-Yellow-Replaces-Controller/dp/B004H7P0B6/ref=sr_1_cc_6?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1414436422&sr=1-6-catcorr&keywords=nintendo+gamecube+joystick
Ah, I see. If you had a GameCube, I would have recommended just getting a Wii U, but if you don't have that, then the Wii is worth it.
Try checking some of the used listings on Amazon here. There's one for $46 + shipping that seems to be a fairly complete package.

This is the one I use and it works fine LAN Adapter. Should be easy to find on Amazon.ca
I haven't personally used it but Hori usually makes top quality accessories.

No luck at Home Depot...but looks like this guy isn't shipping from halfway around the world, and should do the trick.
I haven't bought a GC, personally I would recommend a Wii. A lot, maybe even most, people playing Melee at tourneys are doing it with a Wii. You could buy them from a local store used, or off eBay or Amazon.

There is no emulation on Wii for GC, so everything will run correctly.
I use this one and it works perfectly. No issues.

I hear this one is much better quality.
Same here!
I actually bought an adapter for my Switch that lets me connect my Wii U Pro Controller (which I like more than the Switch version) so my two main controllers will be the Wii U and Switch Pro Controllers.
Isn't Hori releasing a Mario and Luigi themed GC controller that connects I the wiimote? It's supposed to work with all games that support the classic pro remote.
EDIT:
Here they are on Amazon
You also need a proper converter to get minimal lag. Either this or this. Both have been tested to work fine (the C&E supposedly looks better though).
I'm 99% sure this works. I have a USB-C to female USB and I've used that with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079B5KHWQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to use my PS4 controller in tabletop mode and it works.

You'll need either a size Y0 tri-point screw driver (hard to find a decent one, the one I bought from amazon crumbled on me), or a 1.5mm-2.0mm precision slot head screw driver in order to open the gamecube controller.
These aren't official Nintendo stick caps, but they work well enough for replacements if you need any: http://www.amazon.com/Gamecube-Replacement-Analog-Yellow-Replaces-Controller/dp/B004H7P0B6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421682812&sr=8-1&keywords=gamecube+controller+stick+cap&pebp=1421682814727&peasin=B004H7P0B6
I was planning on getting the official nintendo one https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Internet-Officially-Licensed-wii-u/dp/B01N6S068R.
What advantages does the one you link to in the post have over it?
You could always buy an adapter (I got this one that lets you use a variety of controllers).
Be warned you'll need 1 per controller (can't use more than 1 controller on 1 adapter).
I know it isn't the best solution, but definitely cheaper than buying more pro controllers and letting the old ones collect dust.
Pretty sure they already did it...?
I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Battle-Luigi-Version-Turbo-u/dp/B00ND0E604
Just got it in yesterday and it feels GREAT. I haven't gotten my bundle in yet :/ but this is a great substitute for the moment
This is a poor mindset when trying to problem solve. You can't do anything about other people's connection so you should do what you can to make sure it isn't yours. If you are on wireless and your wii u is close to your router, I suggest one of these (especially if your internet connection is less than 100 Mbps) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00484IEJS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1#
It is super cheap and confirmed to work with Wii U (I have one and it is great)
This is the adapter I use:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079B5KHWQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_2YXWBb5YSHBA2
I know for a fact it works with wii mote+nunchuck after a firmware update, and the input lag is very minimal. Hope this helps.
http://meleeiton.me/2014/03/27/this-tv-lags-a-guide-on-input-and-display-lag/
They did a test with a comparable monitor and the adapter + LCD combo gave < 6 ms of lag.
Seems like high end video capture devices give less lag but regular converters still aren't bad.
These are the converters they used.
Standard converter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009EA7ZUA
Video Capture Device: http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0

The rubber came off of both of them in sub ~10 hours of gameplay. I wouldn't ever buy them again.
Also note that you'll need a tri-wing screwdriver to open up a gamecube controller
You might want to double check on that
$5.99$1.68$2.99
I'm using the BenQ RL2460HT. Recently made the switch from Sewell converter to an RCA adapter instead
The ones that plug into the wiimotes are called wii classic controller pro. The ones that are wireless/usb are pro controllers

It’s overall same price as a Pro Controller for this setup but I prefer the bigger thumb sticks and more fluid buttons of the Xbox controller. Vibration features also work so it’s incredible imo.
Hands down, yes. They're practically necessary, in my opinion.

This is the one I use, and it works fine. They're kind of finnicky with the wii u in general, but it works very well for me. Don't buy the ugreen one, that one is shit and doesn't work.

Like I said it does over-gamma the signal a bit. An alternative also tested as lagless is this C&E component to HDMI. It doesn't over gamma the signal, but requires you have the wii component cables. It has bad reviews but supposedly works and most of the reviews seem like they are from people who know nothing about technology.
