A really fun book you can get is Andy Roddick Beat Me with a Frying Pan. The author gets pro athletes to compete is basically bar bets, like playing tennis against Roddick where Roddick has to use a frying pan. The book shows how insanely seriously the pro athletes take competition no matter how silly. It's a really fun read.

Got a chance to Google a bit.

It sounds like LL Cool J released an album using the term G.O.A.T in 2000. But as it relates to sports and competition, it looks like it originated with a book about Muhammad Ali that was released in 2004.

I'm not sure if it's because of my internet connection, but I've always had pretty bad experiences with CBS.com, especially during highly watched episodes (I missed the climax of last season's fore making comp and almost cried). You can buy a pretty damn cheap antenna that you can hook up to any TV and get a fair amount of channels, including CBS. This is the one I use, and it works like a charm.

I might get downvoted for filtering it to 1-star ratings but this is the best way to get across the content of the book.

The origianl CD soundtrack. It's probably everything you need thematically. I recommend getting it used for only $4.

There are also like a dozen of later seasons on CD according to season/location too. Russ Landau has an extensive discography.

Jeff Probst wrote a book called stranded.

A family vacation becomes a game of survival!
It was supposed to be a vacation--and a chance to get to know each other better. But when a massive storm sets in without warning, four kids are shipwrecked alone on a rocky jungle island in the middle of the South Pacific. No adults. No instructions. Nobody to rely on but themselves. Can they make it home alive?

A week ago, the biggest challenge Vanessa, Buzz, Carter, and Jane had was learning to live as a new blended family. Now the four siblings must find a way to work together if they're going to make it off the island. But first they've got to learn to survive one another

Tina has a book called "Out Live, Out Laugh, Out Love" where she talks about her Survivor strategy and relates it to her life. I haven't read it, but thought I'd mention it.

Eve Tushnet once wrote a book called Amends that deals with participants in an MTV-style reality show. It touches on similar themes. You might be interested in reading it.

The board game in the video also have some good reviews and rating on Amazon

I never browse Amazon before but after seeing the review to this and comparing to the video, I don't think I can trust every Amazon reviews that I see...

Off the top of my head...

  • Carnival style gallery throwing

  • Grappling hook throw and hook

  • "Land the beanbag" throws

  • Sling shot or launcher

  • 3d puzzles

  • One of these... And probably some of this (maybe nsfw)

Yeah, after buying Survivor through iTunes for 13 seasons, I finally got fed up with the delays and for season 27, I switched over to Amazon instant video and I've generally been happier with them.

Amazon uploads the episodes much faster than Apple, which suggests the iTunes problem is on Apple's end, rather than CBS's. And I can download the episodes to an iPhone or iPad to watch on the go, or stream them to my TV to watch. (Note that streaming may or may not work with your particular setup. It works with an iPad and AppleTV. I don't think it will work with just an AppleTV and no iPad. No idea about other setups.)

The big drawback to Amazon has been a repeating weird situation where the episode has been uploaded to Amazon but doesn't show up in my video library, requiring me to contact Amazon customer service before I can watch it. This is a pain in the ass, but it still results in me watching the episode sooner than I could have via iTunes.

So personally, I give Apple a C+ and Amazon a B-. Neither is great, but I've found Amazon to be better. Amazon isn't selling a season pass for Season 29 yet but they have put up a link for the season, so presumably you'll be able to buy it soon.
