9 years later and they are much improved. Sound is nearly perfect in two of my cars. I live in San Jose, CA and use 102.7 fm frequency.
$16.99 JETech Wireless FM Transmitter Radio Car Kit for Smart Phones bundle with 3.5mm Audio Plug and Car Charger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00URUJWPW/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_ZCe0xbBKBGWQA
Alternatives on Amazon:
This is pretty much exactly what the USB condom is, only it actually has a cover on it, so it won't break super easily. It claims to charge faster as well. Made by PortaPow.
Since the focus is phones anyway, here's a power only microusb cable.
In fact, there's a few good device specific ones on PortaPow's store.
Bulkier, but cool. A USB 3.0 HUB that has two dedicated "power only" ports.
This also addresses /u/bachmac not wanting to use paypal. (I entirely agree, I hate paypal.)
The LG Tone Pro HBS-750. I have not received them yet, but I've had good luck with LG products.
I've had the Kinivo BTC450 for over 2 years and am pretty happy with it.
> They are universally garbage
Buy a Brother printer. Sturdy printers with cheap ink.
I've had their infamously great Brother HL-2270DW black and white laser printer for two and a half years and it's never skipped a beat.
I haven't own an inkjet of theirs but they all seem well rated at Amazon.
It's pretty easy to add a usb charging port with this and this.
GoControl Zwave Thermostat $83.99 is what I have. Couldn't be happier. Nothing fancy but it works with Home Assistant perfectly.
I'm still pretty new, I just got my license in July. check out /r/amateurradio and /r/HamRadio.
Ham radio is a very wide topic, but for your emergency situations chack out http://www.arrl.org/ares and http://www.usraces.org/ and http://www.eastcoastdistrict.org/
You can start off with pretty cheap 2 meter band radios like this: http://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-BF-F8HP-TRI-POWER-Dual-Band-Transceiver/dp/B00MAULSOK/
It doesn't make sense. You still need a DAC for phone calls and speaker output. There are ways of making the 3.5mm jack thinner that don't compromise usability.
I don't have a stereo in my car at the moment. I have a Bluetooth speaker instead. Thanks to interference, the music doesn't always play at the right speed, speeding up once all the packets come through. This isn't an issue with the 3.5mm jack.
There's already Bluetooth headphones on the market you can get for your runs, my weight lifting neighbor loves these. You can use these and still have a 3.5mm jack.
Why ask here when you can just google "hardware software interface" and get free on-line lectures on the subject?
When you talk software+hardware, it means there's a CPU somewhere in the system. This is basic computer engineering stuff, and blends electrical engineering (EE) and computer science (CS).
Also google "embedded programming" to see what it's like to work on that type of stuff.
For something more in-depth I'm partial toward this book since it's my college computer architecture textbook back in the 90's.
Ehh, it's not like their brief soho routers ran windows, and it's not like they don't pay a shit ton of licensing fees in the cell space anyway, for patents.
I can see why they wouldn't want to feed google, but I'm pretty sure they'd make money faster on the hardware and whatever OneDrive stuff they integrate than whatever google charges for stock android.
Logitech G9X, greatest mouse I have ever used.
You can buy the knockoff (reversed engineered) versions, but you can pretty much blame Apple for the high cost of the official cables as they require licensing for their cables and also include a fun "authorization chip".
It looks like the newer docks don't even have a 3.5mm jack (-10dBV output). The older docks do though so it's only the dock cost plus a $5-10 3.5mm TRS cable.
Technically the knockoffs are illegal too, so there's that. Apple's pretty notorious for milking their customers. You should have known what you were getting yourself into! haha...
edit:
Apple lightning to 30-pin cable from Amazon: $35
3.5mm line out cable (which simultaneously charges via USB): $8
Total cost: $43
> Yes, there is a lot of progress to be made, but technological advancement is very much part of it, and the problems aren't with the fact that technology renders human labor obsolete, the problem is with how we handle the new situation.
I agree with this very much. We are already seeing employment suffer as a result of a lack of imagination. It's going to get worse as robotic technology gets better. I've read several books on this sort of thing, but the one I think gave the best high level picture was this: http://www.amazon.com/The-Second-Machine-Age-Technologies/dp/1480577472 (Don't worry, it's not too pessimistic. :))
RE: Repairing democracy. I truly hope you are right...I have kids.
you mean amazon reviews are completely unregulated and easy to exploit? you don't say
You 100% sure on that model number? Doesn't seem to fall inside the naming scheme..
Here is a full list of most of the PCG models.

Here is a keyboard that should work on most PCG series laptops.
http://www.amazon.com/PCG-FX220K-PCG-FX240K-PCG-FX250K-PCG-FX270K-PCG-FX310K/dp/B000PGJ7TO
I know it doesn't list your model explicitly but for 20 bucks it might be worth to try.
