Get a swamp cooler or “evaporative cooler”. It’s basically a fan/humidifier. They have a tray where you can put ice for cooler air.

Amazon: Honeywell 470-659CFM Portable Evaporative Cooler, Fan & Humidifier with Ice Compartment & Remote, CL201AE, Silver

For lotion, those “therapy” lotions that have a thick consistency work well for me.

Amazon: Eucerin Intensive Repair Lotion - Rich Lotion for Very Dry, Flaky Skin

For nose? Afrin. Always. Never run out. Costco bulk packs.

Remember: it’s frequently sunny in Vegas. Blackout shades for windows or window tinting in home and car is recommended. I have “limo” tint on my car (considered darkest and illegal in Cali). I have been pulled over for speeding a few times and never received complaints about my tint (speaking of speeding, Ace Law Group can reduce speeding tickets to illegal parking—reducing the price and preventing points on your license. I’ve used them. It works.)

For indoor tinting, Amazon: Yzakka Light Filtering Window Film Anti UV No Glue Sun Control Heat Control

I would recommend sun lotion, but it has been said they cause cancer themselves. Do your research on it.

Get an umbrella (🎵ella, ella, ay, ay, ay🎵)

Careful driving when it rains. For some reason, its slicker—especially on offramps.

good luck.

For normal driving, I use this. I’ve used this for several years now, and it’s held up perfectly. If you want something sturdier, ram mounts are the way to go. I use this on off road trails without any issues, so street/highway driving won’t be a problem.

  1. Regular bug spray outdoors; keep your property free of insects so there's nothing for them to eat. That's a long game and won't be effective until next year.

  2. Immediate answer: Population control. Get a black light and a boot/flyswatter/predator drone/whatever and smash the ones you find outdoors each evening until you can't find them any more. They're usually at the bases of the block walls, rocks and the house stucco after 10pm. You'll be able to easily see them 15 feet away with the black light.

If they're coming inside, wander around with the black light after the house has been dark for an hour to see if they're on any of your baseboards/walls. They mostly come at night... Mostly.

Spread out the DE like Gibus mentioned.

Edit: Just to be clear, regular bug spray doesn't do anything to them since they don't absorb it, so DE and stomp & smash is pretty much it unless you go with some much nastier poisons.

Mine did too until I got a friction mount. When I’m not using it on the dash, I just tuck it under the passenger seat.

St. Thomas, NV, is a ghost town located 65 miles northeast of Las Vegas, within the boundaries of Lake Mead National Recreation area (just past Valley of Fire, where VoF Highway meets Northshore). It was founded in 1865 and existed for more than 70 years until it was flooded by Lake Mead following construction of the Hoover Dam. St. Thomas sat underwater for more than six decades until drought exposed the ruins in 2002.

I took this photo in late 2018 looking east toward the Gentry Store and, behind it, the town's post office.

For those interested, I wrote a novel set in the town, Lords of St. Thomas (Amazon, Goodreads), that is based loosely on the final resident to leave the town in 1938. There is also a history book written on the town, St. Thomas: A History Uncovered, which I recommend!
