I do, don't buy a terrible console gaming headset. I've had a couple of pairs of turtle beaches, 2 sets of polks, and the official Xbox stereo headset in the 2 years that I've owned my xbox. They've all had A. pretty poor sound quality when compared to non-gaming headphones in the same price range B. poor quality wires and C. ugly, except the official xbox one. The rest are so hideous, I don't understand why a gaming headset needs to be fucking orange and green or something....but if it works, I wouldn't care....but it doesn't.
What I've done is started using the windows 10 xbox one app parry chat and I use the logitech f540's, there is a new version out: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g930-7-1-wireless-gaming-headset
(I actually owned the f540's before any of the others, but they wouldn't work with the xb1 until the party chat app on windows 10)
Haven't used the latest models but the f540's are superior in every way to the headsets I've purchased previously.
So with the logitech headphones, you get the headset itself along with a receiver to transmit the wireless signal. Cool thing about the logitech sets is that they do PC and Xbox sound simultaneously. (SO you get party chat and game chat, or you can play your music from your PC while playing, ect.)
So, I take an 1/8th inch stereo cable plug it into the aux-in on the headset receiver, other end goes to the aux out on my TV, then I run USB from the receiver to the PC.
Instead of the party app on the xb1, I use the party app on windows 10, and viola! (I know. It's fun to say viola, though.) you are now COMPLETELY wireless, no wire from the controller, no wire from the headset, for 150 bucks, less if you can find the f540's.
Now, if you want that same functionality from a "console gaming headset" this is an option: http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Stealth-Wireless-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00YXO5X4M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1450886249&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one+wireless+headset
Although, I've not been impressed with Turtle Beach, it seems to be more style than substance.
Bottom line, don't buy a headset with a wire. Just don't. They are designed to fail, and that's not hyperbole. The manufacturers could easily put an 1/8th inch port on the headphones instead of a hard wired cable, that way when your cable inevitably gets frayed, you can replace a 2 dollar cable instead of a 100 dollar headset. But, instead they hardwire it, so once it breaks you can either repair the cable, which not everyone has the tools/know how/patience or, what they REALLY want, just buy a new headset.
I have had the f540's for 4 years, the battery life is starting to get short, so I do have to plug in a mini-usb to play while charging more than I used to, but frankly, the sound quality, durability, and comfort make them head and shoulders better than anything under 200 bucks that's billed as a "console headset"
It's such a racket. Like Beats by Dre level racket.
Any Xbox compatible 3.5mm Jack headset can be used with the official Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. They are about £16 ($20?) on Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Xbox-Stereo-Headset-Adapter/dp/B00I41H7US/). This plugs into the rectangular port on the bottom of the controller, and gives you mute, chat / game balance, and volume up / down buttons. It's very simple to use, and gives you full control over the volume balance for game and chat.
You can also get aftermarket pads from PDP, which have a 3.5mm socket for any Xbox compatible headset with a 3.5mm Jack, and they have a special dedicated button by the right thumb stick, which when double tapped, mutes the mic, and when held down, turns the D-Pad into a volume up / down and chat / game balance control.
This is what I use, and it is so easy to adjust game and chat volume on the fly, I'm actually surprised MS don't do something similar - it's such an intuitive way of doing it. One thing though, is that I don't know whether PDP do a wireless pad with this feature, (I'd have to google it) as the ones I've seen on Amazon are wired (as is mine). They are only about £35 / $40 or less though, and the cable means the controller is light, and never runs out of battery! :D
Edit - Had a look and can't find a wireless version, but this is the one I have, and I am very pleased with it, cable is nice and long, and fits securely. It feels a bit different to a regular controller, some things better, some things worse. The home button is much easier to use, but the triggers are flatter. Buy from Amazon with free delivery and try it? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Afterglow-Prismatic-Wired-Controller-Xbox-x/dp/B00ZJRHSRW/
HyperX Cloud II. I've personally owned the HyperX Cloud 2's for over a year and they're amazing. They're a little over your budget, as the cheapest price I found online was about $100, but they're well worth it. If you search around the subreddit, you'll see these are very popular and highly regarded. You can also look at the HyperX CloudX. These came out after I purchased my Cloud 2's, but these add an additional inline volume and mic mute control to the cable. They appear to the be exactly the same as the Cloud II's in every respect otherwise. I do really miss having an easily accessible mute switch in my Cloud 2's to quickly mute the mic in certain situations. You also get a hardshell carrying case which is nice, my Cloud 2's only came with a cheaper soft shell pouch.
Hands down the best headset I have ever owned is the turtle beach stealth 500x. They are amazing. 100% wireless, great sound, 3 levels of mic monitoring and tons of other features with presets and things. Ear muffs are kinda stiff for my liking so I removed them and put the cushions from my x41's on. Much softer feel. Battery lasts about 4-5 days when its been fully charged and that playing like 4-5 hours a night on avg. I also use them to watch TV when not playing games they are that great!

>Question: what are DD-WRT and Tomato?
Well, the short answer to it is that it is open source software, and you typically have to install it your self. It's not difficult, but the learning curve to use it might be off putting and it voids the warranty (although you can put the old software back on and nobody would be the wiser).
>What do they do that stick software doesn't?
Typically, it will just work right, under lots of load for long periods of time. Most routers with stock software, typically fail after you use BitTorrent a lot for example. The reason is that BitTorrent opens up a lot of connections, and routers aren't tested under those circumstances.
My mom which is an older lady, had trouble all the time with weekly router crashes. Installed one of these and it ran for years and didn't need a reboot.
>Do I need to install these for multiple consoles to work openly?
Well, typically they work right out of the box, but let say it doesn't. Well, with WRT you have many options, like Tomato, DD-WRT, OpenWRT and so on.
BUT my best advice to beginners is to stick with someone that offer WRT based software out of the box. Asus routers typically have these, so just look for AsusWRT on the box (and of course what feature you want). They have customized the WRT to make it easier for you to use and can give support.
Any of these are all good options (with varying price and features):
I own the last one. It doesn't have the latest wifi whiz bang speed, but the price is great and the speed is likely to be far more than what my internet can give.
Are you using your TV speakers? I recall in the recommended setup / positioning for the kinect they recommend not placing it directly in front of your speakers, which your picture seems to imply. It also looks like it is at or under the minimum recommended height from your floor. I had my positioned much like yours and felt it didn't hear me / see me as good as it should. I purchased this mount (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FYMTUQY) as a test and greatly improved the area of view of the device and feel like it hears voice commands better.
Yep, I purchased the same exact HDD. WD Black Series is baller, go for this one OP.
Link to WD Black Series 2TB Hard Drive
Link to USB 3.0 Rosewill Enclosure with cooling fan I highly recommend this enclosure. It's great!
I use this for my xbox one AND my 360.(I have two of them) I have to point it at my xbox one rather than my kinect, so that tells me kinect isn't required, and look at that. NUMBER BUTTONS! It works with your TV, sound system, and console. It works like a dream. You can set volume lock so once you choose one volume source, the volume buttons will only change that one source regardless of what input you're on. Also you can learn buttons on a single basis. basically, since numbers have no use on my xbox, but my cable is plugged in through it, i assigned the numbers to affect cable, so that I can be on my xbox input, and use cable all at the same time. Just pick it up and use it. So simple and easy once you set it up. Takes only about 5-10 minutes to do so, and it's so much cheaper than other Universal remotes that can do the same thing. It will even pause and play my chromecast! (I'm not paid by them, I swear. I just LOVE this remote, because it makes my life so easy.)
I've painted Xbox one controllers. You could always attempt to tighten up the screws a little with a T8 Security but that honestly probably won't do much. These controllers are assembled and fit together much better than the Xbox 360 controllers.
If you're going to take it apart or tighten it up. One of the screws is under the sticker under the batteries. Make sure you peel that off gently if you're going to replace it, because opening a controller up does void your warranty.
I'd just chalk it up to it being cheaper plastic than the 360 controller.
Here's the latest controller I've done.
Kind of pricey, but check these out.
Sound amazing, long battery life and fit nicely. You can even take the mic off if you want.
I use this:
CTA Digital Multi-Function Carrying Case - Xbox One https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I902D7Q/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_x1hLwbZF8RQ95
Nice and sturdy, not too big, everything, including the Xbox fits snug so it feels secure, and the grip is a joy on my hands. Seriously great since I go to my friends a town over to game all the time.
> I want the full experience. Best sound, best build quality etc.
Take a look at this setup Sennheiser G4ME ONE, Astro Mixamp Pro, headset adapter and a 2.5 to 3.5 chat cable and there is also a setup guide for it all on Astro gaming's forum.
I made on post on Reddit the other day asking Astro A40 + Mixamp pro users, What's your opinion about the headset and would you recommend it?, Most defiantly worth a read.
Don't get the S model. The S comes with a surround sound dongle that is worthless imo. It totally destroys the surround sound and, as this post alludes to, you can't use a USB sound card on xbox one anyways. The revolver is the same model but doesn't have the dongle and I think it's also missing a couple of plastic pieces meant to cut down on the metal reverberation.
However, for around the same price point, consider the HD 598 SR which is a much better headphone and also has a mic. Looks like the price is high atm but it comes down to around $130 if you don't mind waiting.
If you want a better headphone than the hyperx revolver but don't want to pay for/wait for the HD 598, the SHP9500s are a good set and you can combine em with a boom pro to get the microphone functionality. This will be better sound quality both in the mic and the headphones and will be about the same price as the revolver based on current amazon prices.
That's not to say the revolver is bad though. Note too that the two I recommended are less bass heavy and more focused on mids & treble so may be less 'fun'.
I'm out of town for the weekend but I'm pretty sure I have this exact one.
https://www.amazon.com/HD-102-Powered-Splitter-Certified-Support/dp/B005HXFARS
I have my cable box -> splitter -> Xbox HDMI in. I've had this splitter for at least 3 years. I originally got it when I was in college so I could have an awesome man cave. Found out later that it strips the hdcp and allowed me to stream my cable TV to my windows tablet from my xbox. Heres a link for a little more info on hdcp stripping.

Ever heard of Powerline adapters? These useful adapters transmit internet access thru the home power supply, most of them are plug and play, and you can find a couple of them for less than 100 bucks, let me find a good one for you
Edit: here's an 500mbps TP-LINK powerline kit for less than 35$
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA4010KIT-Powerline-Adapter-Starter/dp/B00AWRUICG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425250712&sr=8-1&keywords=Powerline
Ps: it's easy to use, just plug one adapter to a power port, then connect it to router or modem using ethernet, then connect the other in the room that has the xb1, and connect the latter to the adapter using ethernet, and you're good to go!
Not sure what you mean by adjustable mic, but I'm going with the Sennheiser Game One soon. It was $130 a couple months ago, waiting to see if it hits that again for Black Friday.
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC?th=1&psc=1
Lightweight, fantastic headband, the best ear pads in all of headphonia IMO, a solid mic, and decent sonics.
I would suggest the hyper X cloud 2. I have had headsets that are cheaper and headsets that are several hundred dollars more (Astro) and I can assure you the sound quality is on par with more expensive headphones, the comfort is the best in gaming headset, the mic is also really good both in sound and in convenience as it's removable and easy to reposition. also the convenience of having the USB sound card in case you ever want to use it on PC is a nice bonus. Even the packaging is top notch lol.
You will want the headset adaptor for the controller though as it is easier to adjust volume settings (although this can be done in the guide)
69.99 Amazon UK

(It also comes in red but I prefer gun metal)
14.99 Amazon UK for the headset adaptor
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00I41H7US/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491518442&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=xbox+headset+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41jbYPK21QL&ref=plSrch
I can't attest to their reliability since I just bought them a few days ago, but the HyperX Cloud Revolver headset is amazing. The sound is clear and powerful, it has a steel frame and it's super-comfortable.
These aren't wireless, but I bought these Powerline Adapters a few weeks ago and they work amazing. I've noticed a huge improvement in my speeds.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SAYCVTQ/ref=twister_B00SRWDHOE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Amazon.com has the HyperX Cloud II for $75.97. It says PC & PS4 but it'll work just fine with the Xbox One. It's a great headset and even better at that price point!
My concern with these drives is that with games running they need high ventilation. I encourage anyone with or without tech savvy to get themselves an enclosure and an internal hard drive and build the drive themselves.
Enclosure I use, 3.0, with a nice fan, drive never gets hot.
4TB Internal HD
Tons of tutorials online, including the instructions that come with the enclosure.
It's super simple, literally open the enclosure, pop the drive in, plug it in to your xbox, and turn it on.
I have the same issue and so do many others. It hasn't impacted game play but you are right, it is annoying. Is your console still under warranty or did you buy the extended one by chance? I have sent a couple of mine in when they got to the point where the joystick felt a little too loose for my liking and they sent me free replacements, no questions asked.
If not, there are several tutorials on Youtube that show you step-by-step how to open up the controller and fix the problem. You do need a special screwdriver, though. This is the one I bought to have on hand in case I ever needed it in the future. The description of the product says Xbox 360 but several people have mentioned in the product reviews that it works on the Xbox One as well.
Turtle Beach 420x and 420x+ are nice. I would look for prices closer to $120 or less before buying, unless you're in a pinch. Use camelcamelcamel.com for Amazon price history.

Newer model (adds "Superhuman Hearing," up to you if you want/need this):

--
PROS
Fully wireless, no cables to the controller
Long battery life
Reliable so far (5+ friends have them, zero issues)
Clear voice chat (me, and all friends with them sound great)
Comfy (although this is preference)
--
CONS
Price ($100-150)
Have to charge them (I charge nightly, although once in a while miss a charge and still OK the next day)
Only stereo sound (however you can still hear stuff "behind" you regardless, if that makes sense)
Takes up a USB port w/ wireless receiver
USB dongle is somewhat bright and blinks while not connected, can be distracting if you plug into a font port and your Xbox is in view
--
There are also two new headsets incoming that I'm watching - both are fully wireless but also surround.

Just so you are aware I also bought One S on Black Friday for the UHD apps (guess I should've done research first), but hardly any of the apps support 4K. The only apps I'm aware of are Netflix (if you subscribe to 4K), Vudu, and obviously the 4K Bluray app. YouTube and Amazon do not support 4K.
I ended up finding a good deal on a Roku 4 and went that route. My Sharp TV's apps don't even support 4K content. Don't buy Sharp :(
Also this remote works for my TV, Xbox One S, and Roku which is totally cool.
CTA Digital makes one that's inexpensive and perfect for the Xbox One and One S. there's a zipping pouch for the Kinect that fits the power brick and cables perfect, and it has room for at least 1 controller. If you have the One S then you just get extra storage without a power brick. I've used it for a year and traveled with it a lot. Perfect for the car or on a plane as your personal item. Amazon Link
I think you'd be better off buying a carrying case and portable monitor, separately. The quality of the products is going to be better individually, as is the price. Plus, you'll have better luck with defects/returns if you stick with name-brands; can't say I've heard much about "Gaems" outside of these all-in-one cases.

I’ve been using the LucidSound LS35X for about 2 months now. I really like them! The sound quality is good and they actually get pretty loud. My only real complaint is being able to get the sweet spot on the overall sound and the chat/game mixer can be a bit finicky.
Muting is just hitting the right earcup button and the mic even has a red light so you know you’re muted, and you can mute game and chat audio quick by hitting the left earcup button. Sound quality is solid on the mic, and have never heard any complaints from my gaming buddies. Any other questions just let me know.

Sennheiser GAME ONE Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_7xj0Bb6VV92JK
Flip mic to mute, volume dial on right ear cup, comfortable. This is the wirecutter's upgrade pick for gaming headsets. I've been using it for about 18 months and the quality is jarring compared to when I use my friends Astro A40s. Both the microphone quality and the sound quality of the Sennheiser is leaps and bounds better than their Astro headset.
I personally recommend it. (The game One is an open headphone and the game Zero is a sound isolating closed headphone design. I prefer open headphones because of the wider soundstage and better [for me] perception of directional sound. Others may prefer the isolation effect that closed headphones give. Otherwise, the Game One and Game Zero are same.)
Asus 68U-$200 Asus 66u $156. These are the best consumer routers on the market. The Netgear routers are really good too. The Asus UI is really simple and you can hover over words like port forward and a little box will pop up and will give you an explanation of it.
I ordered these after talking with /u/HyperX-Felinni. They're delivering tomorrow but every review I read made it seem like these are the best.
I know this isn’t what you were asking. But I was in the same situation and bought this remote instead. It’s awesome, just like a normal universal remote but can also control Xbox. Great for Netflix and Blu-ray.
I would add that the soldering iron must have a pointy tip! I've been trying to replace my modules, but the stock tips are huge (for the intended work) I could not reach the spots to melt.

Agree on WD, I use this and can highly recommend it:

I loved that remote. Until the circular button wouldn't click down anymore. I bought a second one and loved it until the same thing happened. Both are unusable because you can't select anything. At $60 a piece, I'm not buying a third.
Ended up getting a different remote which is working out fine.
Inteset 4-in-1 Universal Backlit... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M4I1BAY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
unfortunately, no. i've heard good things about the plantronics. and i have used HyperX cloud II and mostly hear good things about any hyperX. i also have a50 (gen 3) and while they have good thump, they arent worth 300. i've used TB 800x and 420x and 420x+.
after xbox/windows added vss, HyperX Cloud II are for sure my favorites (maybe except for them not being wireless). i'm waiting to buy 1 of these also:
I would recommend this. I have been using it since 2012 and the batteries still work fine. If I charge overnight while i'm not playing I have rarely run out while playing. I play way too much xbox so the normal person should be fine as well. http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Recharge-Rechargeable-Batteries-included/dp/B00IM3P8GS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1465140482&sr=8-5&keywords=energizer+aa+rechargeable
Do you pay extra for the router portion? My cable co has just the modem, or the 'home networking'. If you can get just the modem, do that - it's $10 a month cheaper that way for me at least. Or you can check and see if there's a modem rental fee, if there is, you can buy your own Docsis 3.0 modem.
Either way, I would buy your own router. I have http://www.amazon.com/RT-AC66U-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC1750-Gigabit-Router/dp/B008ABOJKS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416657859&sr=8-3&keywords=asus+ac+router and it's fantastic. You don't necessarily need an AC router, just a nicer wifi router, then you can set it up the way you like.

The HyperX Cloud 2 is good. You'll need the headset adapter for the controller if you don't already have one. The sound is great, and so is the microphone. They're on sale for $70 on Amazon right now.

Don’t buy SCUF. They’ll disintegrate within a few months. Go to Amazon and find some OEM side rails. If you don’t want to fork out $40 for the OEM parts; there are some that are nearly identical to OEMs and cost the same as the SCUF grips.
Here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0Q0QI8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_r.GhDbCB3VBQZ
Yes, the SCUF grips are cheap and feel great out of the box. I thought the same thing. Then a few months in, the rubber on one of the thumbsticks felt loose and started to pull away from the metal. Even then, I told myself “no biggie, I’ll just replace it with another thumbstick.” Then another thumbstick went. Suddenly, the grips started to feel like they’d expanded. They had. The rubber had deformed and expanded like a sponge. On top of all that, the SCUF logo pattern had taken on a ton of grime that I’d never gotten on my stock elite grips.
All of that happened within six months. I’m a neat freak and make a legitimate effort to keep my stuff clean. Save yourself the headache of having to replace your grips in six months and just order OEM parts. Anything but SCUF.
WD. Seagate has a high failure rate.
I have this 4TB drive. As a bonus, it looks like a mini OG Xbox One.

I hear you, I did that for the first couple of years and a friend told me to make the investment on these Energizer bad boys. One of the best investments I've made so far, still using the same 4 batteries that I bought back in 2015. I bought 4 more as a luxury and now I never run out of battery life. These are extremely reliable batteries my friend.

$100 plus the $25 headset adapter and you're way under budget and you have an awesome headset. You're welcome.
I got these for mine and they look like the originals. Hopefully they ship to NZ
EDIT: Easy to install too. Took less than 5 min.
Right now the RIGS are the best wireless for the Xbox. But this headset might be better when it cones out at the end of March.

This is pretty close to my situation, I think. Good to hear it's working for you (for the most part). I think it's worth a shot. Is this the one you have? http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA4010KIT-Powerline-Adapter-Starter/dp/B00AWRUICG
I have one of these for my XBone and my PS4. They work great, don't take up a ton of space, and don't need an additional power supply. Amazon Link I Hope That's Okay
Stereo Headset Adapter plugs into the controller you then plug any headset with a 3.5mm cable into that and get audio wirelessly through your controller.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Xbox-Stereo-Headset-Adapter/dp/B00I41H7US/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421229671&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+stereo+headset+adapter
Other option is if you have a pair of speakers with a 3.5mm or RCA jacks on it to then buy a DAC Digital SPDIF converter. This is USB powered and plugs into your Xbox One SPDIF port, you then plug your speakers that either have a 3.5mm plug or RCA jacks into this and voila you get audio out of your speakers without the need of having to use headphones or a stereo headset adapter into the controller.

Any gaming headset will do. What's your budget?
Kingston makes some really nice headsets that aren't too expensive that sound fantastic. Check out the Kingston HyperX Cloud ($76), HyperX Cloud II ($95) and the HyperX Cloud Revolver ($120).
Currently I'm using the Sennheiser Game Zero and love them but they're at $190 and a little pricey.
Here's one on the economic friendly side. I really like it but it does not have much protection. It's better for car rides. It does the job.
This was the only other universal remote I could find that worked with the Xbone, other than the overpriced Harmony remote. I needed something to work with my TV, sound bar and Xbox. It's great.

I'd recommend one of the normal combos and then get this (or something similar) instead. I've noticed a huge improvement on load times with the 7200rpm external hard drive.
I play with rechargeables, and prefer them.
Here is a scenario as to why... you are playing a game, really getting into it, when your controller turns off due to runing out of "juice".
With rechargables, you switch out the batteries, and continue to play just like before.
With charge kit, you have to plug in your controller, so you are now using a controller hooked to your console. I, personally, don't like that.

I bought these grips a week or two ago and they work perfectly. It sure about the faceplate though.
his tv is very thin, yours is very thick. i'm not sure how well the gorillapod will work in that situation. i recently bought a second xb1 w/ the titanfall bundle. i bought it to put it in the livingroom for the wife and kids (no one messes with daddy's xb1 time). i bought this mount:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FYMTUQY/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it works pretty well, costs $19 and feels secure. it also has a hood that covers the camera if you feel the need for that (i don't bother, let the world see my frank & beans, i don't care.... though my wife would feel different if she knew).
I used a really small drill bit that could fit into the screws and was able to unscrew it easily. Then I took it apart and I looked at the analog sticks and how they were soldered. Drifting is due to the potentiometer thinking there was an input. So I just resoldered all of the potentiometer leads, put it back together and it works like a charm.
Didn't cost me a thing. However I did later on find the right type of screwdriver needed to remove the screws.

This one costs a bit more but it's fantastic, I've had it for a week or so now.
True. The 420x+ are much more affordable. I say probably after about 3-4 hours. If you wear glasses though forget about it. Western Digital is very popular. Here's a good one: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Passport-Portable-External-Drive/dp/B01LQQH86A/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487946124&sr=1-2&keywords=4tb+external+hard+drive
Well, that's the thing... I'm using this headset with an adapter that goes from mic/headphones to one plug. Works perfectly.
And honestly, my main concern is that I'm not causing static explosions to other players. I know how annoying it can be if I'm sitting there trying to play and someone else's mic causes a static disruption in the atmosphere. I would rather not have that happen.... well, that and I don't want my brand new equipment to be faulty already.
wife has these, she loves them, and I like them more than my A40TR

Bought this one recently and it's pretty good and not too steep a price for the convienience.
I would say just look at reviews for the most part. Other than that I would suggest one with plenty of air flow for the enclosure, possibly with a fan inside to make sure the drive doesn't get hot and shorten it's life.
A quick look at Amazon and I found this with 4.5 stars and $36. Sorry about the link but I'm mobile.

You could get away with one even cheaper, but again you would want to make sure the drive doesn't get too hot.
If your not opposed to a used set I bought these open box special for 120 a few months ago and they work great, only issue is they are not comfortable if you wear glasses.

What TV service do you have? I got my parents an Xbox One S awhile ago and it was doing the same thing with their DIRECTV receiver. The only way I was able to fix it was to put a HDMI Splitter in between the receiver and Xbox and now it works perfect. They don't have 4K so you might want to look for one if your able to get 4K from your tv provider.
Its an ok plan and but it may not resolve your issue.

It is powered but its good.
Try using a wired connection. If that's a problem, buy a powerline adapter like I did. The adapters need to be plug straight into a wall socket, no surge or powerstrip. It's very easy to set up and now my xbox is wired straight into the modem in the living room, which is 80 feet away from where my xbox sits. It should help with the lagging situation since you are not using the console wirelessly. This is the one I have

Real easy fix. Just gotta order replacements, as annoying as that is.

These are what I ordered, and they worked great. Unfortunately they run out of stock easily, so timing is key. However, it's a really easy fix. Just pop those suckers off and replace.
Definitely add an external HDD. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Passport-Portable-External-Drive/dp/B01LQQH86A/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1WDQX79JPNSBA&keywords=4tb+usb+3.0+external+hard+drive&qid=1557950279&s=electronics&sprefix=4tb+usb%2Celectronics%2C175&sr=1-5
Highly recommended as the internal Xbox drive will fill up quickly.
I have this one: [OREI HD-102 1x2 1 Port HDMI Powered Splitter] (http://www.amazon.com/HD-102-Powered-Splitter-Certified-Support/dp/B005HXFARS?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00)

Good guide.
You CANNOT have a static address assigned to your xbox. Put your xbox back to DHCP, and if you must have an address specifically assigned to your xbox, use DHCP reservations (go ahead and google this, its not necessary)
This isn't true for all routers. Just an FYI. Mine works with static IP. I have Open NAT without any edits.
I have Asus RT-AC66U
[Which is nice if you have that much disposable income] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00KSQACMM/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all). The headset I linked to above was $30, mono ear (because I'm a dad I gotta have an ear for the kid) these were a god send. Not so much this generation
I have the turtle beach 500X stealth. I love them.

I guess the 500X is the only fully wireless surround sound one other than A50s running through the Win 10 Xbox app.
Just so you guys know, this is their lowest-end basic drive.

For PVP, FPS and sports you want lowest input lag possible. Anything that has a TN panel will have lowest, typically in second place is IPS and in third is VA type panels.
HDR on PC is expensive, most cheap displays fake it and the results are not very good.
120hz support on Xbox has only minimal benefits, enable on 1080p or 1440p monitors if it supports it.
Freesync on Xbox really only works well with 60fps titles, most 4K displays are 40-60hz range but 1080p monitors can get 30-60hz effective range for Xbox.
For 4K TN buy this

The thing you are presently using will definitely not work. It's the "wrong way". You have 3 Inputs and 1 output. The goal of the splitter you are trying to use is to plug multiple devices in 1 tv. For example, plugging 1 Xbox one, 1 Xbox 360 and a Blueray player in the 3 "Inputs", and the "Outputs" goes in the TV. Meant to be used with TV that doesn't have enough HDMI input to plug all your stuff.
You will need something more like this: http://www.amazon.com/HD-102-Powered-Splitter-Certified-Support/dp/B005HXFARS/ref=sr_1_5?s=audio-video-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1450792526&sr=1-5&keywords=hdmi+splitter or any splitter that has 1 input and 2 output. Check for that controller range tho to make sure it will work out.
I think this is what he's talking about. This is UK but shouldn't be hard to find on Amazon in the US.

Edit; scratch that. Found it on Amazon in the US. It does say it's currently unavailable, but if you scroll down just a little bit under where it says currently unavailable it does have 1 that's new at just under $10 from the same supplier. Here's the link for that.

That may be, I have Hyper X Cloud Revolvers. I'm not sure if the quality of the CloudX's are dumbed down because they're made for the Xbox but they look pretty similar to the Hyper X Cloud 2(it turns out they did check these out ). My Revolvers have the most similar sound quality to my Audio Technicas.

Grab this or this and put it in this.
I have that GST drive in a Silver version of that Enclosure. The fan on the enclosure is absolutely dead silent, but can be turned off. I expected it to make some noise (hence why I picked this enclosure with a fan on/off switch) but it is so silent it makes no difference. Its drowned out by the HDD. The HGST does make some noise, so I wouldn't recommend it if you have your Xbox in your room and are a silence freak. I'd also recommend getting a longer USB 3.0 cable like this. I had a spare Amazon Basics USB 3.0 extender lying around so I used that. They are really good quality.
Also, both drives have a 3 year warranty and are designed to be used in a NAS (basically designed to be on most of the time and super reliable).
All you need is the controller to do everything besides voice and motion controls.
Gold is required for most online services... skype online multiplayer stuff like that.
If you're nervous about haveing a camera in the livingroom this may be a good buy
You'd just as well get a powerline adapter, like this. It's worth looking into and you can keep the xbox wired! Also you could add a WiFi AP on the other end and get wireless in the part of the house that sucks.
Thanks. I did find this one:

That's why you have at least two sets. One set always fully charged in the wall charger, and the other set in your controller. It takes like 10-20 seconds to swap batteries.
Here's an Energizer set that includes a wall charger and four AA batteries for about $16. I used to use the Xbox One Play and Charge Kit, but it only has one pack, is more expensive ($25-$30), and I've found that those packs tend to wear down quicker than regular batteries. And there are a ton of people here who swear by Eneloop rechargeable batteries, but they're more expensive than the Energizer/Duracell options ($26-$36).
You'll need to add this to your controller if its not one of the latest, It allows you to add pretty much any headphone/earbuds with or without a microphone.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Xbox-Stereo-Headset-Adapter/dp/B00I41H7US/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451101487&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one+headphone+adapter
The adapter usually comes with xbox one compatible headsets. It can also be purchased separately and used with pretty much and headphone with a 3.5mm jack.
I bought a case off of amazon for like 20 bucks that I use when I travel. Cta digital carrying case. I'll look it up when I get to a computer

EDIT: Better linky.
I never was able to fix this issue with the router I had at the time without restoring to the factory firmware. ddwrt did not support the 5ghz radio in the router and tomato was not stable. The only way I would get the xbox one to behave nicely was on the 5ghz network so I ended up getting a more high end router (ASUS AC66U): http://www.amazon.com/RT-AC66U-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC1750-Gigabit-Router/dp/B008ABOJKS
Also got it because my old router was not powerful enough to provide me my 105Mb Comcast internet speed in my bedroom but the ASUS certainly can over 5ghz 802.11n.
Regular controllers are easier to take apart; elite is a little tougher. I would search a youtube video. I usually get a small flathead and prop it up where the triggers are, and then remove the sides with my fingernails; you can use your brute fingernails but that hurts for me. You'll also need a T8. If you have any extra Xbox One controllers that you don't really use, I would test run those first. As for the 'a' button, I've never had the sticky issue. You might want to take apart the controller and try washing the button or look for any problems that are causing it, around the button area. Putting the controller back together is really easy; just make sure you don't lose sight of the parts.
I use the LG27UK650 and it is awesome. The only downside is the response time, but the monitor has freesync so lag is not a problem.

Yes a baby monitor can cause disconnects and lag.
> Common causes of active interference are microwaves, ovens, air conditioners, CRT televisions, wireless headsets, baby monitors, other wireless networks, cordless phone systems, and wireless speakers.

I have a splitter and it works great. Mine is powered, so I suggest that as well. Heads up, the active monitor gets a 2-3 second black out when you power up the 2nd TV that is receiving the signal. I will be using my current headset (Tritton detonators)
but to get game audio i'll be getting an HDMI splitter example
then this to convert one of the HDMI cables to composite.
Probably going to find cheaper solutions for the parts, but this is just an example. and for voice i'm just going to get the adapter c:

Sometimes i have to unplug it and plug it back in to watch tv on the Xbox. Otherwise it's black screen and only sound. Not sure if it's splitter or Xbox issue because tv always works without Xbox. I'm ok with it as I don't really watch tv on Xbox anyway.
This is what I'm using. No complaints so far and the price was pretty good.

amazon.com has the Xbox One Kinect TV mount from PDP up for pre-order. It shows that it uses a screw thread similar to most camera mounts rather than the proprietary snap on connection that is used on the Xbox 360 Kinect.
Looks like we aren't going to be able to use our existing mounts.
Turtle Beach Stealth 500. They're awesome. Totally wireless and rechargeable. Oh, and they're virtual 5.1.
