guess is it's overheating.
i can't vouch for a low voltage CPU... kind of a weird combo to have with a discreet GPU
i imagine this is your laptop: http://amzn.com/B00MM2WA8O
sell it and get an HQ proc + gtx950+ lol
Go with this and an external optical drive if possible. Has a dedicated 840M and i5 4210U which will play games great.
It seems the Acer is sold out, and you would be much better off going for that.
However, if you have a ~$600 price range, I would go for something like the Acer Aspire V3-572G which has an i5-4210U, 8GB RAM, and Nvidia GT 840M dedicated graphics.

This is the cheapest you can get a laptop with a dedicated gpu for.
Isn't this one basically the same computer, just nearly a hundred dollars cheaper? They have a different serial number, but otherwise the specs are the same.
This is reasonably priced
I just ordered this one yesterday, its at the high end of your budget but it has a way better graphics card the only problem is not full HD screen, but it is the closest to a hybrid school/gaming laptop i could find with a touch screen at the $700 price range i was looking for.

Best afordable one is probably the Lenovo Y50 at $1000. The cheapest decent one is probably this.
I'm looking to spend around $500-$800. That acer looks promising, so it would be able to run Melee well on dolphin? Melee is the only game I intend to play on it, so as long as it will run well I'll be happy. I've been wanting to get a laptop for everyday use for a while, I just want to make sure it will run Melee well before I purchase one. I appreciate your feedback.
Also what do you think about this acer? Would it get the job done?

edit: also much cheaper than what others listed. but runs as well. Anything around 600$ price is safebet, i bought a desktop for my brother for 500$ (similar setup, just desktops cheaper) and runs many games easily.
I would recommend the Lenovo Y40 or Acer Aspire V3-572G-54S6.

I found this one this is at $500.
This is a little out of your prince range, but is touchscreen. Not sure if you'd want something like that.
This laptop is around $600, but it has a dedicated GPU. I have it, and it's awesome having a 1080p screen, and being able to play games on it.
this is the one right? I could scrounge up a bit more for it probably.
