Agreed. I got this one based on a response on this subreddit and its improved the wi-fi stability considerably: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CEB53MS

You're bang on, with regards to no modem required, cable router needed, and connectivity. The auto setup will detect it and start working because it's the most basic type of connection.

As for the router, I've just seen your link, I forgot it was that expensive (I got mine very cheap second hand).

If I were you, I'd buy something cheaper. AX WiFi6 is extortionate, because its brand new tech, but that will come down over the next couple of years as it becomes the norm. If I were you, I wouldn't invest so much money in an AC router that's tech is already on the way out.

I'd suggest this instead: TP-Link AC1750 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Cable Router, USB 2.0 Ports, Support Guest Network, UK Plug (Archer C7) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CEB53MS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_-JBWCbA70WQVY

It's not quite as capable, but it's WAY cheaper, and considering you only have the 150mbps package, it will still be just as capable of maxing it out.

The Asus one I have is completely overkill for us both. The kinds of WiFi top speeds it can deliver are higher than the tp link, sure, but it depends on the connecting devices supporting 3x3 or 4x4 WiFi, which no mobile phone or laptop can anyway. You'd literally have to invest £100 on a wificard for a desktop pc to get that kind of headline speed on WiFi, which just doesn't make sense. Even if you do want to use this with a desktop, your in a flat, you may aswell just run an ethernet, how far could it be? Those headline speeds are also going to be impossible to hit in noisy environments, like a flat.

So, get the TPlink instead, it will be just as fast for connecting to most mobile devices, assuming you don't have loads of devices trying to download at once. And it's still way faster than Google WiFi.

It's a third of the price of the Asus, save that money for when you do move out in the future to a bigger place and use it for an upgrade to WiFi6/AX

There's actually a solution using Raspberry PI's, can't recall where but I'm sure google fu will find it easily for most.

There's an Asus? suggested above, which is more than capable. Personally, I quite like the Archer range from TPLink

In my home, I have Meraki switch's and routers, but thats because they were free :D

TP-Link Archer C7. At the time I bought it, it was a pick at The Wirecutter.

I really like my TP-Link Archer C7. I have a large three-story house, and the router reaches everywhere. It's on a shelf the bottom floor and the 5ghz reliably works on the first two floors and 2.4ghz reaches the third floor as well as outside. It's available on Amazon and is well within your budget.

The installation fee is mandatory as far as I know. By going my way, I avoided having to rent a router that I can’t customize to my needs, since I don’t know whatever their standard issue is.

I use an Archer C7. It covers 2.4 and 5 gHz, and 802.11ac with support for up to 1300 mbps. It also has English and Japanese configuration interfaces.

Might be overkill for you, so you may certainly use a cheaper option if you’re so inclined. As long as it’s something that supports the network speeds you’re paying for and can support PPPOE (what most providers use for authentication; pretty sure all routers support this), you’re fine.

The Archer C7 gets recommended a whole lot around here. It's apparently pretty stable and has good specs. It's also cheaper than what you are looking at currently.

I personnally use an EdgeRouter X with a Unifi AP, so I'm not talking out of personal experience here.

Gigabit LAN, WiFi AC and economical? If you ever find it, let me know :P

[This is the only thing I've ever found and have had my eye on for quite some time... and it's not 'economical'] (http://www.amazon.in/dp/B00CEB53MS/ref=psdc_1375439031_t4_B0168G0KZY)

For €200 you can get the best of hardware. What's your current internet plan?

If it's less than 200Mbps I wouldn't suggest you go above €200.

You can go for TP-Link C7 for £69.88.
