To answer your edit you want to look for borosilicate glass (like this).
Pyrex used to be made out of this material but then they got sold and started cheaping out. OXO makes an excellent set that my wife and I have, the only downside being the lids aren't designed to stack neatly. But there are many borosilicate glass options and the stuff is awesome. It can go right from the freezer to a 400 degree oven and be fine.
Sure, but that's true of any tempered glass. There's nothing special about Pyrex anymore.
And finding boro glass seems to be easy: just search Amazon for 'borosilicate glass'. However, of course, I haven't actually bought any, and I don't know if it's genuine or counterfeit.

... but they're only fulfilled by Amazon, not sold by them. The price seems about right for boro glass, though. It does cost more, but $5.30/dish isn't that bad, really.
