I lost a very close friend a handful of years ago after he was struck by a drunk driver. He was in the hospital for about a week before he passed and there was lots of optimism with the doctors, so we were all filled with hope and waiting to tell him our tales of sleeping in the hospital, then he passed without ever waking up. The grief was terrible, I had always thought I could handle anything and that my mind was solid as a rock. I stopped going to work, and had uncontrollable panic attacks that seemingly come out of nowhere that I still struggle with today, most a tiny pinch in a nerve or a cough and I question my own mortality and panic. One helpful thing that did happen however was he came to me in a dream. In the dream I was in a dark alley and felt someone was following me. As I turned around he jumped out and giggled at how he loved to scare me. Then I broke down and he hugged me and said it was all ok, and that he was doing great and very much alive, just in a different place and that we would meet again. Now whether my mind just subconsciously made this or if in fact he did come back to talk to me in my dream I will never know. He and his mom came from a long line of psychics and believed heavily in any clairvoyance and the like. We throw a benefit every year that has gotten quite large in his hometown to raise money for a tuition fund for musicians and roller bladers (his interests). His mom also just published a book about her life, half of the book is about this incident and the aftermath. It's quite a good read even if you don't know them personally. All of us (his friends) are very close with his parents now and try to keep in touch as much as possible.

Edit: The Book
