I'm leaning towards the Asus Zephyrus m myself. This would be my first gaming laptop so just want to get as much info as possible before making a decision. Has anybody looked that the Asus rog strix scar edition? Has the same specs as the zephyrus m but about $300 cheaper. can anybody help me spot the difference between the two or is the dimensions and weight difference enough to justify the price difference.

Nope. Not even remotely close.

New Apple MacBook Pro: 8th gen i7, Radeon Pro 555x 4GB graphics, 16 GB RAM, 1TB of storage. $3,000 plus taxes. Link.

Asus ROG Strix Scar: 8th gen i7, Full Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB, 16GB RAM, 1.256TB of storage, 144Hz/3ms display. $1,899 plus taxes. Link.

I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the Asus will thrash the Apple in just about any test you can throw at it. The 1070 with 8GB of VRAM will far surpass the Radeon with 4GB in any production load. The Asus has a much better cooling system, that will allow the CPU to keep running at higher clock speeds under load. Hell even the RAM is clocked faster on the Strix. This isn't even taking into account upgradability. With the Asus I can swap RAM, SSD, HDD, and batter to whatever I want. Apple has 0 upgradability. The only concession I can think of is Apple's wifi card is probably better. I do have to give credit where credit is do, Apple does wifi well.

Edit: Not saying that you can't own and enjoy and Apple product, sorry if I gave that impression. I just don't like it when people say that Apple>competitors with no other qualifications. And I chose the STRIX because it is the laptop that I own, not because I went hunting for the one laptop that could put Apple in it's place.

The ASUS range is best value for money. I would have purchased this one from amazon if Australia didn’t impose an import tax on it that offset the value. If you can wait for it to go on special, it’s an excellent buy.

Otherwise the latest gen ASUS Predator with a 1060 is a bargain buy now.

This ASUS ROG Strix Scar Edition GL703GS-DS74 beast seem to have ticked all you boxes.

It depends. Not every laptop is ridiculously overpriced for what it does.

Something like GL703GS doesn't seem all that overpriced to me. And in my opinion it's still fairly portable. 3.6kg with a power brick combined isn't all that heavy to transport. Feel free to prove me wrong.

On the other hand something like GT75 definitely asks for too much in my opinion. Don't get me wrong it's still an amazing machine, just somewhat overpriced and weighs so much it's hard to call it portable.

Without a budget I can't help you, because then anything between this laptop and this laptop fits in your scope. If you want to look for one by yourself you should look for a processor with good single core performance and preferably an SSD for decent load times. If you have a large budget then purchasing a laptop with a graphics card is also an option. 1080p screen should also be a minimum so that you can actually use regular skins without needing to tweak your settings.

That will do all of these things pretty competently. I own a laptop, EVGA SC15 1060 6gb, 120 hz, 7700HQ, and it's actually pretty solid too. So sometuing with similar specs should be sufficient.

How heavy is your video editing ? because the 8th gen might be useful if it is heavy, but then your budget wouldn't allow 120Hz screen, so I would recommend this [MSI GS73VR] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074VKSPN6/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it comes with everything you need, 7th generation, i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good SSD storage of 256GB for faster boot up and loading, 2TB HDD, 17.3 inch Full HD IPS 120Hz screen which is a must have for this price range, GeForce GTX 1070 MAX Q GPU that should be able to handle games on medium to high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget.

I like this as well but it is new and the older gen Asus had major heat issues, so I would recommend looking into reviews to make sure the issues are not repeated.
