Sounds like you need a MX150 and an i7 and at 1'200$ you'll be able to find some great systems with specs better than what I recommend:

Well, I could do something like the HP Spectre, but I'd wind up with (mildly?) better performance and equivalent weight for $500 more.

Alternatively there's the Asus Vivobook S which is lighter, but I'd also be sacrificing memory and storage.

Practically all of the mx150 laptops I could find are paired with a U processor and I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but it just seemed to me like the 1050 would give me something to work with.

My roommate has the old gen and the battery life is fantastic. It's also relatively portable and the build quality is good enough for what you pay. I also have a very very old version of this from 2014. 3rd gen Intel and a much slower Nvidia 720m. It still runs league on a mixture of high and very high.
