death and taxes!
I ended up having to pay taxes because my scholarships from school were taxed as normal income. My question is: If someone is so poor they need scholarships for school, how can they be expected to pay taxes on them?
I'm lucky that I have a full-time job and was able to afford the payment, but not everyone would be. And this payment was after having approx. 25% of my paycheck withheld every month.
The good news is that next year I should get a decent refund, since I won't be taxed on any scholarships. My refund would've been $1,000 this year w/o the scholarships, so I'm expecting something similar to that next year.
As for what I'd do with it? Well, be boring and save it. I don't have an emergency fund set up yet, which is my current priority financially. Maybe I'd spend $100 or so on something fun for myself like clothes.
