It's all about stopping the oxygen from getting to it. Some cellophane wrapped tightly around the avocado will stop it from turning, but most paleo folks don't like using stuff like plastic wrap to store their food. For a long time I used a beeswax food wrap instead.
Those work pretty well, but now all the grocery stores around me have good supplies of small avocados, which are single serving, so I just buy those now.
