I remember keeping an eye on them when they did their Kickstarter a few years back. These headphones used to be $200, and got good reviews even at that price. At $29, this is a steal. (Apparently, the company is going to switch over to focusing on another line of business that's doing well for them, so they're getting rid of all their extra stock.)
Reviews say they've got fantastic build quality (metal/leather) and sound.

What is your budget?
Once you pass the 80$USD range, you can actually get significantly better audio and build quality by buying a pair of quality "audiophile" headphones and a stand-alone mic or a clip-on microphone.
Another particular upside is that they wont easily break, because you dont have in-line volume control. aka a splice in the wire to make room for a resistor. This makes an intentional weak point in the wiring, and is a contributing factor to why the majority of heavily used headsets fail in the first 2 years under normal usage. (Ever have headset that the microphone stopped working, or you lost sound in one ear?).
Or alternatively, non-gaming headsets made by high-end audiophile companies like Sennheiser.
You're also looking for closed headphones and not open headphones. You get a worse soundstage, but they tend to "clamp" quite a bit more on your head.

These are probably the best low-end headphones you can get, especially in terms of build quality.

Here is a video review from Tek Syndicate.
Once you start looking at "high-end" headsets like Astro A50's, you should really be considering mid-range headphones like AKG 701's, or Sennheiser 598's. And that 300-350$ Astro A50's have sound quality comparable to 80-150$ headphones like Audio Technica M50's.
Or if you really want the best of the best for consumer grade headphones, you could drop 1,500$ on a pair of these;

There are a few other things to remember as well. With the exception of the Razer Tiamat, virtually all other "7.1" headsets and headphones are really 2.0 stereo. They have a single audio driver in each ear and use software like Dolby Digital to downmix audio from 7.1 channels into 2.0. You can get exactly the same thing with a 30$ 7.1 soundcard.
But often you dont need to. Any game or audio source that had a decent sound engineer will already be setup for a binaural/stereo experience, because the majority of users are not using 5.1 or 7.1 sound setups.
In short this means that there will be almost zero perceptible difference between 7.1 downmixed into Stereo by a dolby algorithm, and 7.1 downmixed into Stereo by an audio engineer.
But this will also help cut costs. Licensing for proprietary software like Dolby is expensive, and manufacturers have to pay a royalty on every pair of 5.1 or 7.1 dolby headphones to them that hike up the MSRP for consumers.
And if you have a high end onboard sound chipset, or a soundcard.. you do not want a USB headset. USB is a digital signal and bypasses your soundcard, rendering it useless.
A ver si no llegue tarde a la fiesta aqui esta el mio todo esto lo traigo en mi coche/mochila.

The California Headphone Company has their Silverados and Laredos for really cheap. They used to go for $150 and $100 respectively, but I think the company is moving on to iPad cases.
I was considering the m50x searching through posts about them and found your comment. Are these the headphones you are talking about?

Why not headphones?
Something like http://www.amazon.com/California-Headphone-Co-Headphones-Detachable/dp/B009F4BV8C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420523805&sr=8-1&keywords=california+silverado would give you much better audio than "cheapo" Speakers. Ofc, you can have a special usecase scenario that requires speakers
They're these. Earpads aren't removable :/
Sorry in advance if I format this wrong, I rarely use reddit. Anyways, I have California Silverado Headphones http://www.amazon.com/California-Headphone-Co-Headphones-Detachable/dp/B009F4BV8C and I have had these for now exactly a year! However, I have lost my audio jack for it 6 months ago...I sadly have not been able to use these for half the time I've owned them, it has one jack for the left and right ear and one for the phone. I can never seem to find these to purchase online or in stores, if anyone can link me to somewhere that I can purchase one of these cables online it would be SUPER helpful, thank you!
Just found this subreddit, looking for gift ideas for my wife, and I saw this. If you haven't yet pulled the trigger, you might want to check these out. Mine will be here tomorrow. They get great reviews for sound quality, have detachable cables ($20 to replace the cable) and seem to be quite bulletproof. Their slogan is "quit pretending to be a rap star", which he will likely get a chuckle out of since he's anti-beats.

You can see him knock it on the desk pretty hard. Whilst I don't own these they appear to be pretty tough. They're the only durable headphones I've come across in searching for a new pair and I'm not that familiar with kids so...
Hello, I've been searching around this sub for a while, and I've narrowed my search down and come to three options for my first set of headphones. Option A [California Silverado's] (http://www.amazon.com/California-Headphone-Co-Headphones-Detachable/dp/B009F4BV8C) These are the cheapest and normally at $50, so if I get them I want to get them now while they are this cheap. Also, they are closed back so I can use them on airplanes and stuff. Option B [Superlux HD668b's] (http://www.amazon.com/Superlux-HD668B-Dynamic-Semi-Open-Headphones/dp/B003JOETX8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417944085&sr=8-1&keywords=superlux+hd668b+headphones) These are open back, so I couldn't use them with people around, but if the Silverado's go back up to $50 I would choose these over them for the open sound stage (and higher sound quality?). Keep in mind that these will be primarily used for gaming, being able to use them in public would just be a plus. Finally, option C, the [AKG K240's] (http://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Semi-Open-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0001ARCFA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417944100&sr=8-1&keywords=akg+k240df) These are above the others in price, but I would be willing to spend more if the gain in sound quality is good enough. So tell me, how does the sound compare between each of these, and would it be worth it to spend the extra cash? Thanks!
for mic get the zalman zm-mic1, for the headphone here are a few suggestions, go look them up and choose one that you think is best for you:
ath m40x
sennheiser hd 518
superlux HD668B
california headphone over ear
akg k240
Sony MDRV6
(these are all better than gaming headsets for the same money)
These dont have a mic but you could pic up a mic for around 10 bucks.

As long as you wanna buy from shady stores on Amazon, you can buy them. https://www.amazon.com/California-Headphone-Co-Headphones-Detachable/dp/B009F4BV8C
I need to choose between these two headphones, but if there is a better pair for $50, then I am open to change.
Silverado
and Audio-Technicas
I am an emerging audiophile, with little prior experience. I will use them mostly for listening to music.
Sound quality is my number one priority, but I am also looking for good sound isolation and powerful bass.
I've looked at the ATH-M20x, Sennheiser HD 419s, and Monoprice 108323s, but I don't necessarily know how portable/sturdy the builds of each are. I'd also like a pair that's fairly comfortable (marked out the ATH-SJ55s for what I heard about their band). I'm open to all suggestions though.

Edit: Also, I just found the California Headphone Company Silverados; anyone have an opinion on those as well?

I'm a bit late to the party here, but I'll put in my word for my California Headphones Silverado
They used to be 200 bucks, but for some reason they've dropped down to 50. They're metal and leather, and they're sturdy as shit. Sound better than my old plastic Sennheisers that broke on me.
Only issue I can see is the cloth braided cable, which may end up fraying fast. You can buy a replacement cable from their site, but it's hella overpriced. Still recommend these headphones, though.
my laptop doesnt have a mic input, this headphones look really nice for that price,
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0093LNRYI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1J4ASWONA7R3Y
they are the little brother of this ones

just dont know what are the diferences beside the cable
tips?
Not better than these $50 headphones

Pretty good deal. Amazing quality too. The only downside is, they're very punishing to those who wear headphones for long periods of time. However, in order to fix this, just stretch them as much as you can (I put them between a box as I slept, and it did the trick).
