This is the book that got me into learning the more complex chords and harmonies: http://www.amazon.com/Chords-Progressions-Jazz-Popular-Guitar/dp/0825610567

It's a good nuts&bolts approach without getting too theoretical too fast.

Arnie Bearl's Chords and Progressions for Jazz and Popular Guitar taught me a ton about theory and includes a system of guitar friendly chords shapes (with all inversions) for nearly every chord you might need to play. Despite the name of the book, I think it's a great theory book even if you aren't interested in jazz.

His Theory & Harmony for the Contemporary Music looks promising as well, but it doesn't have any guitar-specific material and frankly I don't think it covers much that the first book didn't hit.
