I would suggest getting facial scrub pads like these to help get rid of the dead skin ( i get mine from Target in a pack of 12 or so). The Body Shop also has this little thing that will help, but I don't think it's as abrasive as I prefer so I don't use it often. It looks like they have some good facial scrub pads as well. I use retin-a micro 3-4 days a week, and I get peeling and dryness when I use it too often. Exfoliating the dead cells helps keep it smooth.

Also, use a good moisturizer. I'm fond of Clinque products. Go to one of their stores and ask for a consultation. Be firm with them and tell them of your current skincare regimen- and that you only need a moisturizer (some of them will try to show you other products, but most of them are pretty good). They should help you find something. I'm a fan of their moisture surge when I need extra moisture; their super rescue antioxidant moisturizer at night (I rotate with another on the nights I use retin-a) and I LOVE their superdefense spf 25.

Keep in mind I rotate these (except the SPF, I use that daily) so it seems like a lot of money, but in reality, I only purchase the items every 5-7 months or so. They also have some great foundations you can use that will help moisturize and cover like this one.

I'm partial to Clinique, but I know you may not like them. The thing that's great about their line is that they have options for dry and oily skin. You may also want to try a thicker/creamier moisturizer (I've heard good things about MAC). I've used this one by Smashbox and I liked it but it was a little too thick for me, so it may be what you like! I like it in the winter time, and I use one by Stila in the summer.

Also, check out this video by Lisa Eldridge on covering up acne. She's my favorite makeup artist, and she'll give you good tips for great products (a lot of which are pricey, but she does show affordable items as well).

Good luck!
