G.Skill Trident Z RGB are dual rank and at 3200MHz CL14? That's crazy. I had no idea. That price though...

I tried looking up the cheaper non-RGB Trident Z. The CL16 kits are DR, but that's a fairly high latency, which, afaik those higher latency fast kits tend to be less likely to run at those speeds on Ryzen. There is a CL15 kit, but that appears to be SR.

Another that stuck out as interesting is HX421C13SBK2/16. Though it's only 2133, it's CL13(!) at 1.2v. Seems like a kit that could you could manually dial in timings and speed on well on 1.35v, and not too expensive. But... would have to try it to see.
A few cheap 2400 CL16 kits at 1.2v. Not sure how your luck at hitting 2666 and keeping the latency the same or lower at 1.35v would be...
To be clear, I'm not recommending to buy those blind for a build without knowing if you can reach like 2666 CL15 or better on them at 1.35v. I'm just saying they look like they have the potential for that.

edit: someone helped point out that some of these listings are wrong. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/7x9zgz/its_fairly_well_known_at_least_on_forums_that/du7fmsn/

I don't believe any 4GB DIMMs are dual rank. geizhals seems to assume that model numbers similar to 8GB DR DIMMs are also DR when they're 4GB when they're not.
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-DDR4-2400-PC4-19200-288-Pin/dp/B019FRED60?th=1 see here for example. It lists that 4GB module as DR on geizhals.

Boy, that sounds nice. OP will have a heck of a time upping their RAM for cheap, though.

/u/NewUserCreation, your board only takes DDR4, which is a lot more expensive than DDR3. Amazon is showing ~$60 for 8GB as your best option, and the board maxes at 64GB. If you can invest in different gear, that might be your best option. Depends on how you want to go in the future, though.

Right, this is the part where I may trip up since I'm a bit of a noob. The one I have already is a Crucial DDR4 2133 Mhz 1x8GB stick, basically this

By buying another one of those, I should just be able to install it to have it act as 16GB dual channel, right?

u/v1prX · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

RAM prices are in the stratosphere right now, so go with Corsair ValueSelect or do what I did and buy one of these kits: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019FRED60 I have the 8GB, and it is pretty good. Does not have cool heatsinks, but those can be bought aftermarket if need be. It’s 2400 MHz as compared to 2133 for most kits at the same price point.

u/rejectedstrawberry · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I spent like 10 minutes on amazon.co.uk and made this.

i3-8100 - 94.33 pounds - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0759FTRZL/

GIGABYTE H310M S2V - 47.99 pounds - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BKK4N5M

crucial 8gb ddr4 2400mhz - 70.97 pounds - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B019FRED60/

corsair 550w psu - 39.99 pounds - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00TE4XSMA

western digital 1tb 7200 rpm - 38.21 pounds - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0088PUEPK/

palit 1050ti - 139.99 pounds - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M2ZC61B/

total 431,48 pounds.

so uh yeah, do Not do this:

>"do you think at this price the best deal is to buy a prebuilt PC with a second gen quad core I5 (2400) and buy a 1050ti to add in?"

its a shitty deal, youre getting a six generations old cpu, with ddr3 ram and a questionable hdd in there. just save like 30 extra pounds or check what u/agentt30 suggested, perhaps that builds section is updated and can offer you someting nicer than what i slapped together lazily. or if you cant save but like this then i saw 1050's that went for 109 pounds, which would get you down to 401 pounds. still no case but im not even gonna look into that because i dont know or care what kind of case you want.

u/Pehowell · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

Ok, here's the deal according to CPU-Z.

CPU: i5-8400 (As stated)

Mobo: Asus Prime X370-P ( I was right, it's the one I linked above)

RAM: 8GB DDR4-2400 (1200MHz), specifically this one.

You guys seem to agree that just adding a second identical stick is probably fine. So that's what I'm likely to do, unless this new info brings something interesting to light.

You're seriously limited with the older motherboard tbh. You'd be much better with buying a new processor/motherboard/ram combination that you can upgrade at a later date.

If you need a graphics card, I'd suggest the following parts:

  • Intel G4560 (£64)

  • MSI H110M PRO-D Motherboard (£47)

  • Crucial 8GB DDR4 Single stick (£49)

  • Gigabyte RX 460 (£90)

    Total Spend: £250

Now, if you don't need a graphics card, it'd be worth double checking what power supply your existing build has as it might be more worth it for your money spending the £90 there on a new PSU, the EVGA G1 650W is a really nice one at that price.

Either way, at this point I'd personally recommend a different upgrade path just as the motherboard you have has reached pretty much the maximum of it's potential and you're not going to get the best for your money.

If you need anymore help and advise though, feel free to PM :)

What about ram like this? it has no XMP profile that I know of, i use ryzen 2600 with stock cooler. I tried a feature called "memory try it" on the bios but it seemed to cause BSOD if i recall. I will be upgrading this ram once i upgrade to Zen 2 but im still wondering.

Hi fellow miners,

Excited first timer here.

This is my second attempt at building a 6 card mining rig. Since my last failed attempt (https://www.reddit.com/r/EtherMining/comments/7vr330/my_sexy_drawing_mining_rig_illustration_ps_i_am_a/) , I upgraded my PSU which gave more VGA slots. I also have ordered some splitters.

Realistically, I'd recommend upgrading to a Coffee Lake platform. A Core i3-8100 ($148), MSI Z370-A Pro ($150), and 8GB DDR4-2400 ($100) will only cost you $398 + Taxes and outperform an i7-870, plus give you room to upgrade to a Core i7-8700K down the road.
