A were-duck romance. I thought it would be a tongue-in-cheek comedy. Turns out it was hardcore BDSM erotica.

I also read this because I thought it would be a comedy. The first chapter was actually awesome.
Oddly, this was not awful for the reasons you would think it was. The author started a cool fantasy mystery, then forgot it when she introduced a...vague outline of a romance plot. It is problematic to address the issue of an emotionally abusive marriage and indulge your Dangerous Boyfriend fetish in one book...it created a sense the heroine was just jumping from the firing pan into the fire. I wasn't convinced the convicted war criminal new guy was an improvement of the borderline gaslighting old guy. They established the first husband was some kind of immortal creature that could raise the dead...and never explained what he was...she seemed uninterested, despite the fact they had a (taxidermy obsessed) son together. Oh, and there was a scene where the new boyfriend said he would have nothing to do with her son because the bad guy as the father. Heroine said "Love me love my son". He said "OK". And that was the end of it.
