So I was actually surprised to hear that a PC with a Core2Duo doesn't actually have a PCI-e slot, as they have been included on most mobos with C2D. So I looked it up, I believe that you have this PC here. If you look under the slot section, under SFF (I'm assuming SFF because of the "Low profile PCI slot") you can see that you have both "SFF:
(1)
LP
PCI,
(1)
LP
PCIe
16"

Do you have anything plugged into the other PCIe slot? Because this would be the slot you would want to plug a video card into. You will definitely bump up the RAM, as 2 gb is pretty low for anything. Core 2 Duos still put up a pretty good fight, up until about a year ago I was running a PC with an E6600 in it, with a Radeon 7770 and I could still run most games on mid to high, including Minecraft.

So to sum up, if you are serious about getting your son a pretty cheap gaming desktop follow these steps:

  1. Upgrade RAM (4GB, I believe that the chipset can handle at least 8GB if you can reinstall a 64bit OS on in, Vista or newer keys should work with 64 or 32 bit versions) You can get RAM for pretty cheap used on eBay. I know the stigma but I literally do it all of the time and I've only gotten 1 bad piece which was replaced quickly by the seller. Just watch the feedback ratings
  2. If you PCIe slot is free buy a video card similar to this

If you have any other questions or if I missed something, let me know!
