The Philips Fidelio X1 is about as fun as they come while still being 'proper'. If you're patient they're often available for ~£150 on Amazon UK. I've got the MDR-1R as well as the X1, the X1 is a lot more V-shaped sonically (i.e. fun), they also look and feel top notch.

If you will be using them inside your own room, I definitely wouldn't worry about sound leakage.
I would recommend something like the Philips Fidelio X1 coupled with a Mod Mic (much better quality than the Zalman).
> you (and I) may have significantly better 'cans for music or movies, but we certainly don't have better 'cans for VR.
I specifically chose the Phillips FidelioX1s (i.e. nothing special in general) because they're known for being very good with dolby binaural surround sound. I actually got them a few years back with VR in mind.
It's going to be interesting comparing the rifts headphones which are actually designed for VR with these which just got lucky in the binaural department.
I can almost certainly pull most bass with my headphones though, so a slight drop in positional audio might be worth the improvement in bass. It depends how much HRTF matters in comparison to the basic idea of sound moving as you move your head.
Looking at the spreadsheet and reading a few reviews I quite like the look of the Philips Fidelio X1.
Is this a good fit? Are there price comparison websites to find a better price in the UK?
