If you're looking for something lighthearted and fun, I'd recommend Robert Asprin's Myth Adventure series and Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Larry Corriea's nascent series The Grimnoir Chronicles and Monster Hunter International series are a nice mix of a serious storyline and some comic relief. John C Wright's Chronicles of Chaos series was pretty interesting as well when I read it a while back. I wouldn't call it great though, it was just an interesting series with a somewhat different approach to fantasy.

I've also had people recommend Glen Cook's Black Company series as well.
