You should watch the movie Head strong by director Chris Nowinski. Issues like you are describing are very common in athletes, and often they are diagnosed with CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) post mortem. Bottom line is that yes, that is a common occurrence, and it can absolutely be a sign of more brain damage. Be careful out there!
