I recommend not using a case, IF:

1. You don't plan on reselling it
   
2. You don't regularly drop your cell phone
   
   If you do get a case, get a small one! The feather would be an excellent choice. Like you said, going naked is best, but if you can't do that, then go as close to naked as possible.
   
   Don't get a screen protector. Your screen is made to be oliophobic, you'll lose that if you put something over it. I'm very careful to put my phone, and only my phone, in my left pocket, and I have 0 scratches after a year of use. It can be done.
   
   I like novelty cases, so I'd recommend these, but they do get tiresomely bulky in the pocket over time:
