A reactor is a bit too much tubing & complicatedness for my preference right now. I previously had the ISTA I-539 External Reactor, but it kept leaking at the tubing connection for the CO₂. My fault for buying a cheaper product that didn’t have anything preventing back flow, but it was still quite extensive to setup since I don’t have a canister filter.

In both of my tanks with CO₂, I have a diffuser placed under a powerhead’s intake. The CO₂ is then sucked up, chopped up, & dispersed throughout my tank through spray bars that I have running along the length of my tanks’ back wall.

The issue I ran into with the ISTA reactor was that if I didn’t turn off my powerhead when the CO₂ shut off as well, water would leak out of the connection point between the reactor & the CO₂ tubing. This was due to back-pressure from the water still circulating thru the reactor, & it not having a good a check valve built in at that connection point.

I’m pretty good at DIY’ing & will probably end up making myself a Cerges-style reactor later on, but I just wanted something simpler for now. 😄
