I wouldn't recommend a UHD if your main concern is battery life, beside you don't really need that for taking notes and such, also what kind of games do you have in mind ? if it is only something light weight that an iGPU can handle it then I would recommend this Lenovo ThinkPad T460s because ThinkPads are known for their great battery life, amazing build quality and very good keyboards and it has the specs you want for the price you want, it comes with a dual core Core i5-6200U, 20GB of RAM which is more than what you want, 500GB of SSD like you wanted for faster booting and overall performance, and it is within your budget.

This is very disappointing news...
Is it the case that new thinkpads just aren't as good as the old ones?
That my nostalgia is misplaced?
Or is it my budget?

Interestingly I never thought to check screen resolution. How can they sell modern laptops with only 720p display?

If I expand my budget and go to say $1,200, what would be wrong with this
