One major book on the work is Dominic Losurdo's Liberalism: A Counter-History(PDF). The parts I've read are very interesting and it's definitely very relevant.

I also know Ellen Meiksins Wood's book Liberty and Property attempts a history of the rise of Liberalism but I can't vouch for how good it is.
