I buy these when I need earbuds and these when I need a gaming headset.
They're a little, uh... under budget. They work well enough for me though, granted I'm not an audiophile by any definition of the word.
PLEASE! Get a good head set! This one is cheap and works good. ( I would only go with a good name brand or it will go bad quick)

Advice:
Try different games! Do not just jump into a DnD game. Use the resources of the internet to jump into another game you are interested in. DnD can be found anywhere, do not limit yourself.

Yeah, I have a logitech USB headset (something like this)that I think I paid 20$ for. It's pretty beat up because I'm clumsy and/or often drunk, but it's still working fine after 5 years.
I like the flexibility that the USB gives me - I can route game audio through my speakers, and mumble audio through the headset, or both through my speakers.
For best quality, I just hang the headset around my neck and just use it as a microphone, and plug in my higher-quality headphones for game and mumble audio.
I've had this headset for almost 4 years: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Stereo-Headset-H250-981-000353/dp/B005DKZTLW
The left ear has seemed to finally go out for good. I'd get another but the price has gone up considerably. Does anyone know of similar headsets? The flat speakers are much more comfortable for me compared to the normal circular/closed type, so that's what I'm looking for. Thanks.
I use a Logitech mic similar (don't know the exact model number) to this one: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Stereo-Headset-H250-981-000353/dp/B005DKZTLW/ref=sr_1_20?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1464539373&sr=1-20&keywords=logitech+mic+headset
Although, mine was about $20 cheaper, but it still gets the job done.
Logitech 250 but it seems to be discontinued
maybe try Logitech H250 or Logitech H230, one is $25 and the other is $15
edit: nvm on the Logitech H250, doesnt seem to be USB. Not sure about the other one either. But point is, that's the kind of headset you'll wanna look into if you want to spend $30ish or less. Just make sure it's USB and the reviews don't point out some glaring problem and you should be fine.
edit 2: try these instead: Logitech H390 and Logitech 350
