I got my Z Play on Xmas Eve (following the "1 gift for giving, 1 for me" principle) & ordered this case. Expecting it on Friday. How textured is the back? One image looks smooth-ish & one more textured.
This is the one I have now. A quick look on Amazon yields so few cases that don't expose the connectors I can count them on one hand. And then you need to make sure it's actually for the Play because the big brother variant doesn't even have a headphone jack.
I can't help ya out there. I bought a cheap TPU case on Amazon. I've generally been pretty content with then, TPU case as they provide adequate protection for small drops, protect the camera bump, and don't add much bulk. Here is the one I bought.

I like this one. Light, grippy, and protects the camera lens on the back.
You may want to check out purchasing this protective case. I purchased it (due to arrive Monday) for my moto z play. It seems like it's very low profile, maintaining the design of the phone with added protection.

I currently only have style shells, the JBL speaker, and the Incipio car mount. I carry the JBL speaker and my backup shells in a little drawstring pouch I got from a Nintendo rewards program years ago. When I got the car mount, I switched to a Verizon bumper case and retired my old one. The old one now acts as a front cover for the JBL when it's in the pouch. Cimo makes a pretty solid TPU case that does cover the mod port, plus a nice lip on the camera cutout. I've got the clear one on my MZP, had the black one on my 2014 Moto X. Outperforms the pricetag IMO.
