To add onto what others have said. (1) You didn't find out "late." People realize at all different ages. Many people don't find out until their 20s or later. (2) In my mind, the only "rule" for being trans is that you are happier living your life as other than your assigned at birth gender.

I'm curious, do you think you are more concerned that you will regret transition or do you worry more that you are an interloper to or using the trans/LGBT community?

Your answer doesn't make a difference, but I'm getting a sense that it is more the later.

Additionally, I think you would like reading "Lou Sullivan: Daring To Be a Man Among Men." I don't think it is exactly the same as your story (no one's story really is), but a lot of his desire to transition seems to revolve aroung being a gay man among other gay men.
