I do a bit of (simple) DJ'ing on the side, mostly for bar events, parties. I started with the M-Audio Torq MixLab Digital DJ System, it starts at 99.00
and is pretty much one of the best and cheapest way's to learn the basics of mixing, beat matching etc. It includeds Torq LE which is a really great piece of software to learn on.
(link to it on amazon, they also carry these at Guitar Center and seen em at Best Buy)

From here, once you get the hang of things, you can move up to something like an Xponent or if you'd like to get into the set up like the video, move into Rane Serato Scratch Live. Serato is an expensive set up to start with, which is why I would recommend something like the Mix Lab to start and see if you actually enjoy it.
I'm sure someone with a little bit more experience can share better, but I started out just like you and to be honest, that little Mix Lab is a great way to learn. Good luck!!
I have an APC40 right now and use it as a four deck traktor controller. I like it, and sometimes I love it, my feelings on it kind of fluctuate by the week. For the setup you seem to be going for I think you would love it. Everything about the controller is quality for the price and you can get really creative mapping it. As a replacement for the launchpad it is perfect. But as others have said you could definitely get a similar setup by getting a controller with pots like the BCR2000 or something like the MixLab if you want some knobs and a xfader. Also I would add that the APC40 is very big, awkwardly so, I couldn't find a backpack/computer bag that I could fit it in that I owned, I actually ended up using an old cooking stone bag that just barely fit it.
