For postsecondary (and even secondary) education, there's a wealth of knowledge out there on pedagogy. If you're really interested in getting better, this book, McKeachie's Teaching Tips is a fantastic resource that will serve postsecondary (and probably even secondary) educators well.

  • Be a good listener.

  • Make the lesson relevant to the student(s).

  • Remember that you are not the focus. The student is the focus. Assess their needs and respond to them.

  • Solicit feedback and listen to it. From everyone. Students, other instructors, etc. Work to constantly improve your technique.

  • People tend to learn more by doing than by seeing. Take advantage of this and tailor your activities accordingly.

    Beyond that it will depend on the needs of your situation and your personal style. Good luck.
