I've been travelling for two years now with just a 40L carry-on bag and have been moving to a new town almost every week. I like to run and it has become my main form of exercise- heading out about twice a week. To save on space I only carry running shoes and a pair of sandals. Finding a pair of shoes that I thought looked good enough for everyday use and also worked well for running took a while, but I settled on Merrell Glove 4 Trail runners in black. I also found a nice pair of running shorts that double as my swim trunks.

One trick I've been using for a while now to keep me running is getting into the habit of holding myself to laying out at least one trail (I use strava to track my runs and hikes) in every town I visit. At the beginning, one of the biggest hurdles was getting over stares from locals...particularly in small towns or in countries that don't have much of an exercise culture. Once you get over that and get used to dogs barking at you on the outskirts of town, you're good to go just about anywhere.
Before I go out for my runs I usually also do a short ~10 minute regimine of body weight exercises...push ups, curls, planck's, etc. to keep my anaerobic fitness up.
