Hang on, I'm retarded, the trim is chrome/aluminum, right? Okay, then there is no paint, and that's the problem, this is likely just hard water spots and/or oxidation.
First option, the one I'd go with if it's available, is to get the trim replaced under warranty; I see a number of posts where that seems to have worked out for people with Passats/Audis. Once this is done, seal the new trim so this doesn't happen again. And, you know, make sure you dry your car off after you wash it; microfiber cloths are fine, but you might want to consider investing in a blower of some sort, or better yet, something like the Metro Vac N Blo 500, so you can keep your interior fresh as well! :D
The second option would be a chrome/aluminum polish (I doubt it's shiny plastic, but you should check first, just to be safe), just avoid the "with household products" nonsense, and make sure whatever you use is paint safe; taping things off is a good idea either way, but you don't want that one stray drop to cause further problems, you know?
