I got the motorola deck http://amzn.com/B00F4B2LZM when it first came out for $150. Left it out in a hard rain and bought a second after it broke because I love the features.
It sounds great and has great volume and battery life, but honestly, don't they all? There are two things that make this little guy unique and awesome.
1- Audio out jack. Got an old set of speakers or car stereo that doesn't have bluetooth? It does now! Plug it into the audio out of this bad boy and your car/speakers are now a bluetooth stereo and speakerphone.
2- Optional "hijack" mode lets you connect up to 5 devices at once and listen to the last device that hit play. Can be fun at parties or with groups of friends (or annoying, but then you just turn off hijack mode) or great if you and your partner have multiple devices you like to listen to music from.
There are definitely speakers that are louder and clearer, but you can't beat these features for $150, no less $45.

SOL republic deck. Pretty cool speaker. The sound is good, it has a small subwoofer in it. And it has a mode where multiple people can connect their phones and take over the music whenever they want, so its easy to share/switch off music privileges. The battery lasts about 10 hours. As for directionality, it sits flat and shoots upwards (the sub shoots sideways) so it kinda has 360 degree directionality, but you could prop it up against something/put it in a pan to control the sound
Its $42 on amazon right now, thats a good deal cause it was over $150 when it first came out a few years ago
I use this NFC Bluetooth speaker that hangs from a shower hook to listen to podcasts. Tap my unlocked phone on the face of the speaker and it pairs and launches my podcast app. Battery life is great and I charge it maybe once a month. It's obviously not super audiophile, but it's inexpensive, works great, and is very portable.
