I'm pretty sure that's actually mSATA, and there are plenty of adapters for converting that to SATA. Then you'd just use whatever you normally use for sata disks. Some possible items:

msata to sata adapter

usb to sata/ide

I'm gonna be honest, I'm too lazy to check, but I seriously doubt it.

There are probably Sata->mSata adapters you could get, googling found me this thing pretty quickly on Amazon.

Sure, just get a motherboard with msata slot or get a msata->sata adapter.

Interesting... stopgap between SATA and mSATA/microSATA? And yes, it's a new laptop (just ordered it off the Dell website yesterday).

As for internal bracket things, something like this? To me, these seem more suitable for a desktop, since it doesn't have a enclosure (and is smaller than the 2.5" HDD slot in laptop) and would be prone to jostling as I carry the laptop around. Also, there doesn't appear to be any screws holding the SSD in place, it just sort of slips into the slot (here's a video of someone replacing the 5mm HDD with a 7mm SSD, but you can see at the end it's not a perfect fit).

hdd would be sata.

You could get a sata ssd. Or seems you already have an ssd you could get a 2.5" sata caddy to fit your msata drive.

something like this

The adapter would mount to a 2.5" bay. If the case has one, it'll fit. You could also probably dangle it since it's an SSD and doesn't have moving parts.

I tought we could use a mSATA to SATA converter, if I ever need to reuse it on other systems.

Something like this converter.

Can't you just get a bootable DOK with Windows 7/8.1 on it and reinstall the OS? But then you'll need to get a USB hub so you can plug the keyboard and the DOK at the same time.

You can always buy something like this and just open the thing and format the SSD with your normal PC.
